As if Billy's whereabouts are the business of beat writers in OKC, NBA bloggers, or espn reporters. To believe a sighting and intel from multiple sources that Billy was somewhere has more validity than the supposition of people who believe Billy wasn't somewhere.

Still think BD is in the running.
-
wellllll, that's unfortunate..

good first post.

I'm sure Donovan could be in Bloomington, not in public and still be seen by someone (security guard, janitor, airport employee, cop, etc... who then texts their friend who in turn texts Jadlow. Could happen. lol.
-
I want Donovan if for no other reason than to listen to all the media outlets and NBA fans and other cbb fans utter their surprise.
-
Yep, def real twitter
-
Would be pretty sly to want to pose as Jadlow of all sources to be believed and spread a false rumor. This might be the most believable rumor yet.
-
Makes sense, OKC off several days.
-
I loathe the national media both in sports and "news". Propaganda factories.
-
Gainesville, OKC...maybe LA is not where he and Mrs want to be..?
-
Wouldn't be surprised if IU went north of 6m to get him if that's what it took.

I think if some of us were fairly confident Bennett would recruit at a high level, more would be on board.
-
So...Donovan then..

2017 March Madness Tournament Thread
Adillac replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Oh how I loathe the propensity of teams/players to just chuck a 3 when you don't need one with the game on the line. Was rooting for WVU... -
It is still "outcoached" when your system does not defeat another system, or lack of a system.

I miss Btown

Ya, I think Self is one of the few coaches who have no incentive to coach elsewhere. At least, one would think. Makes a ton of money, program is humming along, not really any program out there that could be considered a step up, not really.
-
I think it's entirely possible.
-
I really do think it will be Donovan.

The Manson reference is incomprehensible and underscores one of my original points about anti-alford opinions. Alford's record is not as inconsistent as Crean's. He won his conference at Manchester and was a Div III runner-up. He finished in the top 3 in the conference at SWM the last three years he was there and took them to the Sweet 16. He struggled at Iowa, TRUE. He dominated the MWC at NM and won the conference 4 out of 6 years. At UCLA he has taken them to the Sweet 16 3 out of the 4 years he's been there. At Marquette, Crean failed to make the tournament 4 out of 9 years and 5 out of 9 years at IU.

hahahah....not sure i can ride that train again today...so hopeful for Donovan, but also a little weary lol.

Alford elevated Manchester, SWM and certainly NM. He did not elevate Iowa, true. 3 out of 4 ain't bad but we only see the Iowa failure. If Archie went from Dayton to say, Creighton, then to Colorado and won at a .700 clip but didn't go to a Final Four or win a national title but won several conference tournaments and outright conference titles, would we say his record is no better than Crean? Would we say his record shows he cannot succeed? Maybe some would. I think the arguments for and against Alford are largely too far in either direction. Those who blindly think Alford is the chosen one and will bring IU back to the 80s are met with derision and an equally polarizing and not entirely fact-based stance that Alford's coaching record is somehow abysmal or mediocre and no better than Crean. Clearly, the numbers do not lie, but feelings do. I think the potential of Alford at IU is statistically (and by this i mean what are the odds) somewhere between Crean-level and "elite". He COULD come to IU and be totally pedestrian, or he could come here and rip off some conference titles and a couple 30 win seasons and have us in the Final Four by 2022 with a lot of in-state talent. I think the feelings on both sides of the Alford argument are clouding things. Alford's resume is neither paltry nor is it truly inspiring. It is, however, well above average and I think claiming that Alford's record shows he doesn't have what it takes, is both not seeing his resume for what it is, particularly at certain points- very impressive, but also projecting that what he did at Iowa 10-15yrs ago is the real sample of his ability all the while betting the farm that two great seasons authored by Tony Bennett (not picking on him just an example) somehow cast a long imminent path of brilliance (input any candidate with a good but not great resume, which is everyone except Marshall and Donovan). I am NOT saying I want Alford over everybody else, but I feel like every time his coaching record is disparaged it ought to be rebutted, just a little. Would we hope Archie will have a better coaching resume in 15 years? Sure, if he is at IU. If he isn't, what is the relevance? The way I see it- coaches can be good, bad, okay, etc...but coaches also get some breaks, good and bad.

My guess- IU will pay 6-8m for Donovan or Stevens, and probably S.Miller. That kind of money will get anyone's attention. No, I don't think Stevens comes. The other two I think are real possibilities.
