Will RB depth cause Coleman to return next year?
Banksyrules replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Good topic, I think it would all depend in the combine. That's where he has to show he's more physically gifted then the rest of the pack, to deserve a late first round pick. I just hope he has access to good info, and makes the smart decision. -

This Started It All for Me
Banksyrules replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Was raised a New Yorker, and my family rooted for St. Johns. Mom went to IU, but was not into sports. We moved to Colorado at age 13, and we took a truck all across the country, and one of the places I visited was Indiana University. She took me to an IU game, and got to see Calbert Chaney in action. Got hooked, and knew where I wanted to go to college. -
We are aiming higher. I think the original argument was that Crean isn't somehow living up to IU's expectations. However, in the past 20 years those expectations haven't been met by anyone, including RMK. Should we be doing better? Absolutely. This is Indiana basketball. But he has been to two Sweet 16s which is as many as IU has been to in the past 20 years prior to his hiring. I mean, the guy can't win. He can't live up to the expectations of RMK with the old blue blood fans even though Knight only made it past the Sweet 16 once after his 87 Championship. He can't win with the Brad Stevens crowd who expect everything that guy touches to turn to gold. There are honest to goodness people who believe he would win a title his first year here. Crean is a flawed coach, but in the past 20 years of IU basketball he's exceeding what his predecessors have done as far as making it to the Sweet 16.
I agree but in the next I hope and expect a lot more. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I also don't care about sweet sixteens. We as a program need to explore ways to be better . That doesn't mean national championships each year , but better then sweet sixteens. If we resign ourselves to mediocrity that's where we will be. No thank you , I would much rather aim for something more. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

My only counter argument to this is that I feel the administration has let us down enormously during this tenure. Mr. brand hired an inexperienced Mike Davis, and mcroobie ( from my close sources ) was completely behind the Sampson hiring. If Crean is not our guy in the future I would like to see a better system in place for hiring coaches. Perhaps getting Indiana high school coaches within the search committee. quote name="shortspacequickness" post="79704" timestamp="1408639773"]Absolutely. And those coaches for the most part haven't faced the criticism that Crean faced for not meeting "expectations" after losing two people like Oladipo and Zeller not to mention the backbone of his program since he's been here in Watford and Hulls. People make jokes about the Sweet 16, yet before Tom Crean we'd gone to a grand total of two in the previous twenty some years. Not surprising that fans are fickle and fail to look at reality, but you'd think Indiana people would be smarter.
Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Basketball is their passion. Even if they aren't going to the NBA or euro leagues, I fully understand the desire to play important minutes. Also, if they want a quality education they can transfer to a lesser basketball school with good academics and satisfy both desires. There are plenty of good academic schools with mediocre basketball programs. However, most of the time it's about PT, and basketball to a THEM stands above all else. In their mind they don't think they stink. They just think they aren't getting the PT to prove themselves. NBA dreams are alive and well even for downgrade transfers. It's my guess, but I think Harrow and Hollowell both think the NBA is within reason.
I'm afraid u are correct, but it still kind of depressing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

So with the addition of Holt, it seems likely that we will have more transfers (presuming no one will leave for the NBA), to make room for'15 recruits. Is this typical for programs to do this each year, or is this a little much? I wouldn't mind if this were the professional ranks, but I miss the days were we would see more kids grow under our program, and receive a good education from a highly regarded school. Is education secondary to these kids and the fans, or is this a matter of concern? Just getting a feeler out because I'm thinking maybe I should change my stance on the subject. I like Holt and I think he will give good minutes. I'm fine with adding him on and I think that 7'3 wingspan will keep driving guards honest . That said I do think it's ok to speculate under certain circumstances because it keeps academic institutions honest. I don't want another Sampson gate and raising questions challenged the ethics applies in any institution . If u go to unc boards they attack anyone who questions their practices, but I think we all know that program is eventually going to be a sinking ship. However it seems these transfers are normal across the board and I guess it's the state of things. I'm cool with deleting this topic thread. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
