Who would you hire to replace CTC?
KelleyHoosh replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Guys, being new to Indiana I still have a lot to learn about the workings of the University. I know there was talk of boosters wanting to buy out Crean this year... is it realistic to think people would pony up that type of cash? Or was that just exaggeration? Our next hire, IMO, can't be one of an up-and-comer. I want a proven winner. Brad Stevens or Sean Miller, someone who builds good teams that have gone deep in the tournament -

(2014) PF Yante Maten to Georgia
KelleyHoosh replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Don't look at it so superficially. We lost out on a 6'8 PF, a position of dire need, that the coaches by all accounts wanted. I wouldn't undersell the value he had to the program. Say all you want about an unranked 3* being valuable to IU ~6 years into Crean's tenure though... by all means. -
Agreed, we need at least one 5th year big for this year so we can free up more scholarships to balance future classes
-
Haha your speculation means as much as mine. I mean, I'd love for Crean to go after both. Not sure if he will though. I'm sure they will exhaust every option though

(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
KelleyHoosh replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
In that group of schools, theres no way we shouldn't get him. But, I'm not optimistic -
Yes. If you need more info on them, I encourage you to google them. But Obi is a stud freshman, averaged about 12 points a game and 9 boards. Had tons of double doubles. Rhett had similar numbers at 11 points a game and 9 boards. As a 5th year senior who is immediately eligible and 6'8 he would be a nice addition.

Rhett and Obi would be sweet Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Who would you hire to replace CTC?
He coached at VT. Really difficult to be successful at that school. Especially with its reputation as a "football school," AND the tough conference they are in.
True, his conference made it tough but he was at VT at a time that UVA was very low and failed to take advantage of all the talent in the Virginia/Maryland area. Look no further than our own conference for "football schools" that succeed in basketball. Wisconsin is in the final four, ohio state is always good at both, UMich is a football school that was national runner up last year and Elite 8 this year. I want our next coach to be one with a record of not only reaching the NCAAs, but succeeding there. A big fish hire. I don't think Greenberg is that, though he is a good coach Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Seth Greenberg...? Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
Good coach but IMO not an upgrade over Crean. His teams often struggled to make the NCAAs. Really a lateral move. I wouldn't be excited over it Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
So what do you guys think, grab Maten and Cunningham and go to war next year?
KelleyHoosh replied to NotTheReal HoosierHoopster's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think I'd ideally like two 5th year bigs and Cunningham or Maten, I like both Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Not sure if he'd be willing to start over at 61, but I would love John Beilein -
Haha not a matter of being pleased or not. We all come here to discuss IU Hoops. If you need to act like an insider to make that more fun for you thats fine. If you convince people you actually are an insider more power to you. If you come on any of these sites thinking that someone who has minimal posts and no track record is gonna spill the beans on all the program's secrets you are nearly as foolish as Manti Teo Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
I think he knows what he's talking about, that doesn't mean I'll hang on his every word... But... Wouldn't you rather he continue posting and sharing what he does? If nothing else it's interesting to hear stories/perspective. You don't have to think much of him, but there's no reason for you to try and get everyone else to disregard him Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Who would you hire to replace CTC?
KelleyHoosh replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree that I wouldn't want to get rid of Crean for Archie Miller. No way. I just think we could do a lot worse than Miller in a few years if Crean were to leave. I also think if Crean were to leave anytime in the next two years IU had better make sure its for a top coach, as you said. The difficulty is finding a proven commodity who'd leave their position for us. -

Who would you hire to replace CTC?
KelleyHoosh replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think hes legit. I wouldn't want him to come to IU now after just three years as a head coach, but I think he shows promise. Son of a coach, played at NC State, spent time on elite staffs in Ohio State and Arizona... Having coached at OSU and Dayton, his father being a coach in PA, I would imagine he has decent recruiting connections. I like the way his team plays... In 3 years or so if his teams improve and become consistent I would like the hire. -

Kansas and Indiana, both blue bloods. Indiana closer to family... Kansas will make the tournament no problem and Lee would likely be a rotational weapon in the slew of other highly rated players. Why not come to Indiana and be seen as a difference maker? The star big man that was the X factor that brought IU back to the tournament after missing the year without him? Get him on campus.
