His credits wont transfer at ND -
I think the two that end up leaving are going to be Stan and April. Stan moving on just makes sense after a lack of minutes and all his trouble. And apologies in advance if this is something that should not be public, but I hardly see April in my Psych class anymore and Priller is always there. May mean nothing, but just an observation. Mods delete if need be. Just my opinion

IU vs Louisville Post Game Thread

Outcome was not unexpected, this loss was definitely closer than 20 points. Man, if we had Devin we would be dangerous this year. Honestly, thought the team came out and looked pretty well prepared, we just got overtaken by Louisville's superior talent and pace. Once the game got away from us we did a good job climbing back in. Some confusing sub patterns, but overall I thought a pretty decently coached game by Crean. Stan and Troy................... I've really seen enough. If we can progress through the season and Hanner plays like that more often, I think we can find ourselves dancing in March -

What time is the game?? -
I think our backcourt is pretty well established with Yogi JBJ and Rojo. However, almost everyone on the board has expressed frustration with HMP and Troy. In a lot of ways, it seems as if Troy has almost regressed and it is clear as day HMP is thinking too much... or not enough... on the court. I submit that this team would be much improved starting Holt and Hartman as they both bring a much more team oriented mindset and hustle. I realize this lineup gives up a bit of height but the way that Hanner and Troy play its not like we really lose any bigs. The last few games Hartman and Holt have rebounded better anyway. I think Troy would add much more to this team as a burst of energy and scoring. Hanner also seems to play better after Holt performs, so maybe he should be the one coming off the bench. Just interested in hearing some arguments for or against making this change...

I think Troy is the type of player that would be good in certain situations to energize the floor and if you need quick scoring. It just physically pains me when he gets the ball on the break because you know hes going up with it. And in half court he plays extremely selfishly/awkwardly. Its not as if he is not talented, he is, and he does certain things well. But he needs a lot more work. Maybe next year he will be ready to start. Yogi is somewhat cursed by his height in my opinion as he plays a scoring guard's style but in the body of a point guard. He has a great ability to do flashy things with the ball and take over getting himself open. But in terms of running a half court offense, I think I would prefer Rojo

One more thought. This team NEEDS to learn to keep their foot on the gas. We could've had a much more impressive margin last night, we blew it against EWU, and UNC Greensboro was trending dangerously. -

I still have to watch a replay of the game as I was there so I may not have gotten the best feel for the game. But my impressions: 1) Holt and Hartman are our best front court. They may not be the most talented bigs, but they're definitely who I feel safest with. I said this against UNC Greensboro as well. Holt is so good with positioning and Hartman hustles his butt off. 2) The 2-3 looks like our best bet. It definitely wasn't great but it was certainly a lot better than man. I wouldn't be surprised if he reached out to Boeheim or something and got tips. The zone was light years ahead of where we have been on defense. 3) Depending on what style you like your point to play, Rojo may be a better point than Yogi. 4) Yogi and Troy are so talented, but we all know they can at times have a knack for selfish play. That said, we definitely are at our best when Yogi is out there. I'm not so convinced I feel the same way about Troy. He is out of control, and sure he had a good game making plays but he just plays so out of control. I think he would be better in spurts than as a starter. He's just not there yet. 5) Hanner isn't ready to be the premiere big man. He is inching towards progress, but honestly Holt played better than him. I think this season could take a turn for the worse if coach decides to be overly conservative and give Hanner the nod based solely on age. I won't really weigh in on the Hanner v Holt argument as far as who should start, but I think they should get a pretty 50/50 split of PT. And if the game is on the line at the end, I know I want Holt in there. I thought Crean coached a pretty good game and had the team prepared. Pitt isn't a world beater by any means, but... we have played two pretty good teams, and are 2-0 in those games. If you can't get excited about that, you're probably not very fun to be around -

May be because I'm at the game and can't process it all that well, but IMO Crean is coaching well and our 2-3 looks good. Holy holt right!!? -

Observations at the half: Defense still leaves a lot to be desired, though at least we are in control. Still not feeling great going into Pitt. Hoping to see a more refocused effort in the second half. Holt definitely has a better basketball IQ than Hanner IMO. Thats evident by his positioning on offense and when shots go up. That said, hes still a freshman and still getting used to the game. He is going to be most effective in spurts. Hanner is playing well, but definitely can't take a full load at this point. Hartman is also great in the front court. What he lacks in height he makes up for in hustle. Really like his game. Looks like the furthest thing from a wasted scholarship at this point. I don't know if Troy and Stan just haven't been able to fit in the flow of the game yet, but they both look awkward at times to me. Troy especially seems selfish as far as I'm concerned. I like Stan's style, I just wish he were better at it. -

Our best front court is honestly Holt and Hartman -
Through only a couple minutes on the floor it is already evident from how Holt positions himself on offense and when a shot goes up that his basketball IQ is infinitely beyond Hanner's

I know he is raw and has a lot of talent, but damn. Sometimes Troy's game is just painfully awkward to watch -
Its obviously still very early in the season and we have yet to see what Troy, Stan, and Holt bring to the table. But through two exhibition games and two regular season games I would say the Hoosiers have looked better than expected. Many came into this season expecting mediocre performance, lack of talent, and IU to be looking for a new coach at the end of the year. Hoetzel has looked solid and ready to play this year, albeit in a small role playing role, but still better than expected. JBJ has shown to be as good as advertised. I thought he had an off night tonight against Southern Texas but he still got his. RoJo is my vote for most impressive. He showed he could take over a game and plays extremely maturely especially for a freshman. Surprised by how much he runs the point. Zeisloft is a nice presence on the court as a coach and pretty good shooter though obviously IMO not as talented as the rest of our players. Hanner has definitely taken several steps forward, though I still don't think much of his ability to carry our front court. Especially against top competition. Yogi is good, I don't particularly like his game or how he carries himself on the court but I can't deny he is productive. Hartman has been surprisingly decent and may be a serviceable role player. I don't expect any significant contributions from Priller or April How and when the team gels will obviously go a long way in how the season goes. I'm optimistic. Big ten is less predictable and I intend to bump this thread as the our team chemistry becomes more apparent. What do you all think? Season predictions? Player/coaching evaluations? Lets hear it!

This team has potential. Its important not to lose perspective of this. There is talent on the roster. That said, beyond the obvious talent I'm really struggling to find bright spots. Rebounding: F Defense: C- There were spurts we played well but we clearly dont have the mental ability to sustain the intensity Offense: C Rely way too heavily on the three Coaching... we had four timeouts with 2:30 left going back and forth.... just...... awful. I'm at a loss guys -
I'll say 17 wins, miss the post season
