Cauley Stein in all honesty would have a hard time making a varsity high school team if he weren't 7'2 or whatever

I think it's a smart move by the PSU AD. Gives chambers the ability to combat opposing coaches saying he may get fired, while not tying the program to him if he fails.
  3. This is huge considering Wichita is not tall. I just wish IU was any more consistent, I feel like I have no clue what team is going to walk through the tunnel tomorrow.

Because this is an IU board. Did you get lost looking for a KU site? Nobody cares if you mildly insult the Jayhawks here.

Maybe I just wasn't being clear. Piped in noise was poor word choice. I mean, allegedly the huge advantage of AH is that the fans can be heard especially well on the floor making it more intimidating/difficult for opponents to hear. But does that really matter? It isn't winning us many, if any, games. And should that be what wins us our games?   I appreciate that you would go, but a lot of the less diehard fans don't "get" things like the mystique, like most of the people on this message board do.

    Thoughts on Archie Miller

To those saying Miller hasn't done anything to make him worthy of IU yet: you are right.    And generally, I would agree with the approach that this hire has to be a home run.    But, in coaching hires there are two types of home runs: already established powers (Donovan, Stevens, etc) and up and comers. Miller is unequivocally a great basketball mind and it may take him a few years of learning on the job, but he is a rising star in the coaching ranks. It may not bring instant success, but he could grow with and at IU and be our next great coach that is here for decades

I feel like a huge benefit of being at home is the familiarity of your home court, generally not being boo'd because its mostly your fans, getting pumped up to play in front of friends/peers, etc. Basically, I feel like the piped in noise that may disrupt players ability to hear, while definitely beneficial, is not worth it when:    1) We are basically the only one who has it, and we aren't winning as much as we should be, so does it really make that big a difference?  2) As a student with season tickets, only about half (maybe being generous) of the tickets I am given are a better seat than my couch. I go because I like the atmosphere, but as a fan, being able to see the game would be a huge benefit.  3) Attendance has been dwindling (by IU's standard). Maybe because people don't want to pay, to get a worse view, to watch the team lose and figure they can do it from home. A nice new stadium would improve game day experience.    However, as a huge basketball fan I would be lying if I said when I walked into Assembly Hall the first time as a student, or for the first game as a fan, I didn't get the chills. It really is one of the meccas of college basketball.    I'm undecided on the issue, but I see the benefit of both.

Playing devils advocate, wouldn't it be beneficial from a fan and monetary perspective to get a new, bigger and modern venue so that the viewing is better?    Shouldn't our team be good enough that they can win at home without the added sound from the stands?

Notre Dame beating themselves with constant fouling from their limited front court

    College Bball Thread

Slightly off topic, but this Notre Dame team is playing some good defense this year. I really think they have a run in them. Having followed the ND program for a bit and them being a football school, people either didn't care or thought Brey should be fired. But I feel like this season in particular speaks to the fact that coaches can change and improve, even after 15 years at the same school. He's changed a lot over the years and recruited a lot better recently. I also think he's adopting a strategy that's almost the opposite of Kentucky's where they are solid every year but every four years or so with the right upperclassmen can go on a deep run. And he graduates his players. Personally I'm rooting for ND to start a trend of going on deeper runs in the tourney. They do things the right way

    Christian Laetner

True life, my dad is very good friends with Bobby and Danny Hurley's father. I've met them both a number of times and grew up a Duke basketball and ND football fan. I still follow both programs, admittedly not very close.    I have extreme admiration for the early 90s Duke teams

    Potential fallout from coaching change

To each his own, and your argument is pretty solid. I just wouldn't be overly moved by his hire

Maybe its because I'm from New Jersey, but I'll never think of SHU as a good fit for anyone! Two words: dumpster. fire.
  19. No clue really what to expect against Wichita State.    Its been said, if we show up, we can definitely win. But what IU will get off the bus?    Going into Friday expecting the worst but hoping for the best

I can't tell if this Notre Dame team is for real or a pretender thats going to fade in the tourney like every Brey team.    I'm rooting for them against the dookies though

Are we good enough to dance?

Its going to be interesting to see. I'll definitely be watching with anticipation on Sunday.    I have no confidence in us to do anything if we are to get in. Playing a play in game is just humiliating if you ask me.    But, like everyone else here I'm a sucker for IUBB and will be rooting like hell the next time I see them take the floor
