Its a shame. Could've become a really good player, but I guess he's going to go do that elsewhere.

I can't believe people are following Thon's recruitment this closely. I don't know, just seems like you're setting yourself up for disappointment when theres a lot going on eligibility wise here. Personally I'm holding out hope for Bryant

Tom Crean to Alabama Rumor Thread
KelleyHoosh replied to birdy_19's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Stevens would. The IU administration would. IU doesn't want to look like an institution that doesn't stand by its coaches and Stevens doesn't want to be "that guy" for lack of a better term in coaching circles -
He did. He also brought Blake Griffin in and had a pretty decent run for a while before the train fell off the tracks. I think now that he's had some more seasoning, he could prove to be a pretty good coach

Apparently Bobby Hurley is a front runner for the Depaul job. For his own interest, I hope he doesn't take it...

Melo Trimble returning to Maryland?
KelleyHoosh replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Eh. Theres a ton of kids who leave early every year and end up in the D league. Regardless of projections, they aren't ready for NBA ball but leave anyway. I think thats what he's getting at. A kid recognizing his game/stock isn't ready for the NBA and coming back -
Tom Crean to Alabama Rumor Thread
KelleyHoosh replied to birdy_19's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Really just starting to doubt Crean isn't back next year. Betting he will be and then after next season we make a move. But thats based on nothing other than my own pessimism -
Just because Capel had a rough time at Oklahoma doesn't mean he doesn't deserve another shot. I think he's a great candidate, given that he's probably grown a lot from his first go round and learned more being coach K's right hand man. That, plus ASU being an easy place to recruit means IMO they should be able to land a pretty good coach. Doubting Archie would want to go compete against his brother

Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall
KelleyHoosh replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I feel like almost EVERY program from a p5 conference with an opening will try to get Marshall. But the fact he hasn't made the jump yet suggests to me he's content to stay put. I am doubtful he would move to Bama. I'm also growing more doubtful Crean would move to Bama. In fact, I just flat out don't think it will happen. -

I can't speak for Butler because I'm not familiar with their roster, but ND only has one regular contributor from Indiana. You don't have to be from Indiana. You just have to have a killer mentality. Our team doesn't have it. -

This is the best game of the tournament I've seen so far in terms of excitement -

I am officially pulling for ND through the rest of the tournament. I grew up a fan and when I was in middle school I took it upon myself to email a slew of college basketball coaches (cringe) but Mike Brey and Bill Self were the only ones who took the time to answer -

I hope Cincinnati gives them a fight -
Hes not getting any younger, maybe he wants to be a head coach again. Its not every coach's goal to be head coach at a blue blood program. He may be content running his own ship at UIC

C+ Looked like it was going to be pretty good, hit a wall and never got over it. At first looked like we would exceed expectations, then we played worse than expected, ended up being about what we thought we would be

Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall
KelleyHoosh replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not disputing he would be a good coach, certainly better than Crean. Marshall wins conference championships. But it would be neglecting that what he does is on a very small scale compared to IU. I feel like for "up and comer" candidates, there needs to be a youthful exuberance to them. I question why Marshall hasn't made the leap yet, as he is fairly old. Everything I hear about his personality doesn't make me think he would be able to recruit well or deal with the politics. I don't doubt if you went to the playground and gave Marshall a team to coach he would whoop Crean coached teams, but I'd like to hold out for someone who is: younger/less quirky, proven to recruit better, and wins in march -

Wouldn't be shocked to see Max transfer to be honest. No idea why, just a feeling

Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall
KelleyHoosh replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I'd say it would be a little better than Crean, but definitely not a home run. Basically, not worth dedicating 3-5 years to and potentially missing out on a hire that would make us a transcendent power in that time frame. -

#10 Indiana vs #7 Wichita State - Fri - 2:45pm ET - CBS
KelleyHoosh replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not saying I think he coached a good game but anyone who thinks Crean didn't tell them to foul and blames him for clock management at the end just was not watching the program. He was literally jumping up and down screaming til he was blue in the face to foul. I liked his game plan, but a few shots didn't go down and our defense sucked, he could have made better second half adjustments IMO, and the refs were atrocious. I wasn't expecting a W, so its hard for me to be too upset. Such is life, let the offseason begin
