im not sure he is undersized for his position. He is a shooting guard. As far as shooting guards that can hold their own or better defensively given athleticism, I'll give you remy able. There are countless other players that are not "as talented" but play better defense. The reason I mention remy is that he was on our team.

I didn't quote the right one there. Simply saying he could be a good defender given his athleticism. I've seen most of college basketball defend at least as well with the same or less talent.
-
I have seen many college basketball players with less athleticism play much better defense. Luckily he has a chance to improve on that.

OFFICIAL: Ferrell returns for Senior Season
ashmgee replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think the fact that we are talking about Yogi going pro to this length is funny. He isn't projected high (at all). So either he leaves a great chance to have a team that can be good (we'll see), or he skips out. My guess is the D league or overseas. I am fine either way on this one. 11 days and we will see. -
YOGI--You Stayed! Now Lead Us To Glory!
ashmgee replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is there any reason for that particular date? It does sound like he is gone, but I'm not sure why he would want to given that next years team looks like they may be pretty decent. -
Keep working on team defense fundamentals.

Go Badgers!!! -
well it must be nice to play in a "junky" conference and get an automatic bid every year. They were a very good team this year. I'm surprised they lost to be honest, but I won't lose any sleep over it. NO SLEEP LOST!!!! I hope the fire department is well staffed tonight

Yogi debating about entering the NBA Draft
ashmgee replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think the real problem with Yogi's draft stock was the lack of success these last two years. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a good season with more wins and a tourney run will lift his stock. I doubt that he is higher than a mid to late first round pick though no matter what happens. -
Welcome to Indiana Thomas Bryant. Looking forward to watching you play!

Well if those things happen I will be smiling in the short term. Prolly cussing in the long term...

First off, I'm not sure Crean "helped build" MichSt's culture. He was an assistant coach there. Izzo is his friend and won't say anything against him. Second off, not sure how young you are, but the Indiana of old won. The Indiana of new, does not, unless they have Cody Zeller on the floor. Unless you are trolling hard......... Crean will probably be here next year, so we will get to see the team and the result. I hope he recruits real hard for the season after though. If he doesn't have a solid product on the floor after next season I see no reason to believe there will ever be any consistency with his recruiting/coaching. That being said, I will root for the Hoosiers regardless. I'm just a little sick of the losing, and accepting.
-
so how many times missing the tourney would sway your opinion? Most programs that are going any where make it just about every year. Mish's coach can get a pass. He went to the final game, and this year he had some problems. Has been competitive as I recall until he was forced to play Walkons. Could argue he has been more successful than our gem.

Duke not shooting the ball well, but still on top. I can't imagine they won't get it rolling in the second half
-
I fully expect to see a lot of turnovers, zero defense, and a late season collapse. This will be followed by a mass exodus that will not have been recruited for. Or we fire Crean and start over.
-
I wake up every morning and check the news in hopes that crean found another job or was fired. I'll keep on the same schedule until it happens. I can deal with short term issues (new coach building a team), but crean has not proven he can do much even with some pretty dang good talent on a roster.
-
Ya, he tries not to be a homer, but lately it is pretty hard to find a lot of positives to talk about. I'm talking the last 3 years. If IU got it rolling then sure, Dan would sing the praises like he did when we were winning games in the early big ten season. My guess is that he would love IU to be on top, but calls it the way it is. Unfortunately the way it has been lately has been pretty bad. That has chapped a few folks on his broadcast.

I'm a little torn on Stan. I loved his freshman year and had high hopes for him. After he go in trouble a few times I decided that Crean should have kicked him off the team. I think that players should only get so many chances on stuff like that. In the end he played more minutes than he deserved all year, and played poorly in those minutes. Wichita State was probably his best game of the season unless I am forgetting something. It is sad to see a player that I thought had a ton of potential go through the trouble and poor play and become a "least favorite" in my eyes. Maybe IU was not a great fit for him in the end, but I wish him the best of luck and success where ever he ends up. I'll still never forget him driving to the lane against Wisconsin his freshman season and practically willing us that game over and over. Maybe the worst IU team in sometime was able to beat them for a change.

Oh I see lots of posts are gone. Please do tell. Via pm if that's needed.

Points rebounds and FG% are only part of the game. Vic was special because he was a incredible defensive player. Troy is capable of being a very good player, and I hope he maximizes his potential, but the Vic/Troy comparison is really like comparing apples to oranges, other than the fact that they both were dunkers. Vic didn't play for the highlights. They came to him.

Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!
ashmgee replied to HoosierSadaseci's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only one of the three that could go anywhere is Yogi...If he graduates. I doubt any of them want to sit out a year, and none of them would go high enough in the draft to even bother. -
I agree that folks should support the team and I do always, but I think that Indiana isn't nearly as intimidating of a place to play as it once was. Not because of fan support, but simply because we haven't been that good.

Miller's teams also play a winning style of basketball (similar to Wichita State). I think that Miller just doesn't have the talent that Marshall has at this point. Pretty funny when you consider that we have underachieved with talent for the last few years. My guess is that we don't make a move, and someone else steals Miller and Marshall. All the while waiting for Stevens to come home, and he never does. I hope I am very wrong.
