Who this team is and where they're going
Feathery replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good thread. I've been saying this for a few months now. If we aren't building for a championship (national, big ten, big ten tournament), then what are we doing? It's like we are stuck in neutral and we have wasted 2 years of a McD AA point guard. His freshman year we had the talent but he wasn't ready yet. Now he has been strong for 2 seasons and we can't field a quality team around him. The only way we compete for any championship next season is if we land a grad transfer center. Someone physically ready for the rigors of high major basketball. I'm not willing to give Crean a pass on his first 3 seasons bc he regressed in conference from year 2 to year 3. That was a big red flag that he might not be as good as we hoped. He got Zeller and we had a great 2 year span. Everything else has been trash, what ifs, a piece away. Say we land Bryant. He won't be elite his freshman year. Then yogi graduates and we have to break in a new pg for a season. Now Blackmon is a senior if he is still around and we have wasted his college career bc we couldn't get a proper roster built to have sustained success. It's maddening and we get to look forward to some more creaming to make room for our current signed recruits and any big we can get this spring. -
IU vs UNC Greensboro Post Game Thread
Feathery replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The attendance has been shrinking since last season. I went to the Iowa game last year and there were a ton of empty seats on the same side as the students. It was the same at the SMU game this year. My wife and I didn't have anyone in the seats next to us on either side for SMU. -

IU vs UNC Greensboro Post Game Thread
Feathery replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Lol. I'll watch his post game press conference and he will spout of some ridiculous number of deflections and I wonder if they are watching the same game as me. Kinda like when a player gets on campus they grow 2 inches. There have been games where Crean says they have close to a deflection a possession. In my eyes unless the ball changes its trajectory it's not a deflection. So I dont know what they are counting. -

I feel we are on the cusp of getting worse. We aren't a good team right now and it will be exposed regularly in the Big Ten. Our biggest need is a center and we have gone 2 recruiting classes without landing a top 100 type center. That's a bad recruiting plan. I'm also of the mindset that Yogi is gone after this season. He will have his degree in hand and wants to be in the NBA. I see him going even if it's as a second round pick. He has the confidence and ability to make a roster. If he fails he can still make great money overseas. So we also need a PG and we didn't sign one of those either. So in expecting a team that is coming off a shitty season (this year) to be in need of a PG and Center. Not a great feeling. Marquette 2.0 -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
Feathery replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Then one of them would come. Lol. Bennett is on my list. As for the others I think you are flat out wrong. Stevens is in a unique situation as he is at a better job. It's a lifestyle decision. The rest would all be taking a better position by coming here. They would be getting pay raises and they have all shown they are ambitious and wanting to move up the ranks. We will just have to agree to disagree. -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
Feathery replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I mentioned him in my first post. I was just continuing with a conversation with Hurryin. My first call is to Stevens. You have to check. My second call would be Gregg Marshall. I think he is fantastic and would be lights out here. It gets a little muddled after that. I think Hoiberg would be great but is at his Alma Mater. So I would be happy with any of those guys I listed earlier. -

Feathery replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Glad you "know" Brad isn't coming. Not what others have heard concerning his interest. But my hat isn't hung on him being the only option. I don't think any coach turns IU around in 1 year unless they keep the guards and add a dominant big man. So I expect a couple year rebuild under the right coach. Basketball isn't like football, land a couple studs and have a balanced roster and we are in the NCAAs Other coaches who I feel would excel at IU and be better than Crean are Fred Hoiberg, Tim Miles, Tony Bennett, and Shaka Smart. Another young coach who I see having a high curling is Richard Pitino, who I think is already a better game coach than Crean. There are plenty of options that are upgrades. -

I'll give you 3 options. (Pro, college, up and comer) Give Brad Stevens whatever he wants. If we stick to only college coaches Gregg Marshall is top notch. Up and comer Danny Manning! -
Double D laying down a truth bomb right now on 1070!
Feathery replied to Bk4life's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Actually DD calls a good game fwhen he does IU games. People just don't like hearing the truth about IU playing bad basketball. Back in 2012/13 everyone loved Dan doing the games bc he was spot on. -
Similar to Dave Brandon at Michigan. Excellent from a fiscal point of view, but lost control of his biggest product. He was forced to resign last week.

(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU
Feathery replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Not true. We go through this on every forum every year. We can sign more than one over. The oversign doesn't matter. Crean just has to say he has a plan and the Big Ten doesn't care. We have signed more than the 13 players on the roster. We just have to be back down to the limit by the time school starts. It's not a hard limit on the oversign. I believe if memory serves me that we over signed by a couple before we knew Zeller and Oladipo were going pro. So yes Shake can sign. -
(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU
Feathery replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Why can't he sign? I'm assuming you mean the oversign rules.... If that's the case we can sign 13 players come signing period. Crean just has to say he has a plan for the number to work. He doesn't even have to say what his plan is, jus that he has one. So yes Shake and anyone else can sign this fall. If you are referencing something else, then please disregard. :) -
(2015) SF Ogugua Anunoby to IU
Feathery replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You can oversign by as many as you want. Crean and company has to show their is a plan in place to get the number down the the appropriate number. (Like players going to the nba or transferring) So we can take and sign 12 players and say our entire team is leaving. At least that's the way I understand it n -
Well I know I wouldn't win a national title under Crean bc his teams are not consistant enough. So I would pass on my favorite team. So it's go to a another team and change my allegance for life or go make over a million in China. I'll take the money and live in a different culture before coming back in a year for the NBA.
-
Do you know Stevens? Or are you just saying this bc it's what you believe bc you think Crean will turn it around? From what I understand the money is there for the buyout for Crean and for the #1 option, IF needed
-
I pull for Alford to be successful at UCLA. I do to want him at IU. Go get Stevens or keep Crean are the options. If Crean fails this year we will see if Stevens wants to come back to college.

A Major Step Toward Improving Our Outside Shooting
Feathery replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I hope Troy has a solid long range game for next season. As for out lack if defense. I feel it's being blown out of proportion. Looking at our schedule, there are very few teams with talented enough bigs to take advantage of our interior weaknesses. This team is easily a NCAA team. If not, Crean is out. -
To be fair I think Miles is better than Crean. Screw resume, just look at the talent levels an how the teams perform. BUT as much a I want Crean gone he is likely a top 25 coach and it shouldn't be debateable. I just feel for IU to be elite on a yearly basis we need an elite coach, top 5-10 type.

Fred Glass addresses Crean and last season
Feathery replied to Walking Boot of Doom's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah the buyout is there if needed. The buyout for the potential replacement is there as well. However, I think we win over 20 this season and. Crean is safe. -
Next Season will be a Success If....
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I see 2 ways it's successful. 1) we win 20-25 games and make the NCAAs. We can move away from the Crean on the hot seat conversation and recruiting will pick up. 2) we fail to make the NCAAs and Crean is bought out and we hire Brad Stevens. (Yes the money is there for both buyouts). -
HEEEEYYYYYYY YOOOOUUUUU GUUUUYYYYSSS!!!!

His relationship with Calipari isn't an issue for me. Hell, Tom Crean is viewed as one of Caliparis best friends among coaches. Crean runs the ship (for now). If anything were to happen it's on his shoulders.

(2015) SG Jalen Coleman to Illinois
Feathery replied to JSHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Not so premium news. Not sure why ppl think that other thread was premium. Coleman has said as far back as his freshman year that he was looking at places IU out of state. At that time it was the ACC. The favorite schools have changed but Indiana has been on the outside since the beginning. Just because another site posts it as premium doesn't make it premium. Some of you guys crack me up over that stuff, especially when you pay for such great info. Lol. -
I think everyone needs to have a jumper. So I agree. He doesn't need 3pt range, just hit the midrange jumper regularly. Be more like Draymon Green. Add the 3pt shot as an upperclassmen. He is too small to play the 5. He is only 6'7" and can play the 4. He can't defend the 5 and I'm a believer that you are what you defend. He will be forced to play the 5 bc of our lack of talent but that's not where he would be with a legit post presence.
