As long as they don't Crean any of the to be seniors they will be fine I scholarships going forward. They will graduate 3 seniors next season, putting them at 9 scholarships. They can then have a class of 2. So the scholarship crunch might not be an issue if they tackle it early (this coming season).
-
So if I understand the Cuse scholarship situation correctly, the self imposed a scholarship reduction for this season. Meaning if they take Bryant they have to get down to 11 players. They are currently at 13, Bryant would be 14. So Cuse would have to Crean 3 players to make it work. (I'd assume none will be the rising seniors, so thy can have a small class the following year) IU is currently over signed by 2. If we add Bryant we have to drop another player, for a total of 3. So both schools would have to Crean 3 players to get this kid. I first thought the sanctions would be the end of Cuse and Bryant. After reading more about it, I think it's a non issue.

For clarification I was making a tongue in cheek comment when I said $2.8 million for 2 players. I have no issue with the amount of money being spent on recruiting. I have no problem with the Crean buyout bc IU could potentially walk away paying him peanuts, if he gets the right job. Money is not the issue for IU basketball. See many many other threads for what's wrong with the program.

So you're saying he spent $2.8 million over the pet 4 years to land Morgan and OG? That makes it even worse.

Potential fallout from coaching change
Feathery replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No way it should take another year. The ball is in IUs court on this and any delay just creates a more toxic environment between the fans and the program. They want Stevens but he won't talk about it unless their is an opening available. So I'd expect movement to happen after we complete our season. Make a change and see what Stevens has to say. If he says no, then move on to the other guys you have already sent feelers out to and replied they would have interest. There is absolutely no reason Tom Crean is back next year. I couldn't care less if Bryant or Maker came or not, players aren't a valid reason to keep a coach who isn't good enough.....see Mike Davis. -

Potential fallout from coaching change
Feathery replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think if Crean gets us in the dance his future is in his own hands. Though he will be a lame duck coach and that is terrible for recruiting. If he loses Thursday, then I think he no longer had a say. It will be a race to see if he resigns or gets fired first. -
Thanks for the update pap. crystal ball might be turning towards IU, but I won't believe it until he announces where he is going. I can see Cuse taking Bryant and starting the penalties this coming season. Why postpone it a year and make the damage longer term. Take a bunch of solid young guys and build it around them going forward.

50/50 - so it could happen Fluid - only thing left is the BTT and post season. So results will matter. Thon and Bryant - wild cards, any AD keeping a coach bc of a recruit or 2 is not worth being AD. Mike Davis Deja Vu

Yes. Not even close.
-
Lol. That's not the type of relationship I was referring to.
-
I'd be interested in knowing how influential Crean was in bringing Glass in as AD. From my understanding there was a prior relationship there, when Crean coached at Marquette. If so I just hope Glass could get lst any conflict of interest.

I was reading through the thread and commented to a previous Crean post before I saw your post. My bad.

Potential fallout from coaching change
Feathery replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So he is coaching for his job. :) I was told back in January from a Board of Trustee relative that Crean would be back for AT LEAST another year. Well then we hit the late season swoon. He backed off his statement but still believed Crean would be back. Then the losing kept going and iowa happened. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him about it and gauge what he is being told. -

Exactly. So you give him a year to do well, still won't win t all though. Then yogi, Troy, and Bryant/Blackmon are gone. So we are starting over from scratch and do this all over again for another 2 years. Then they give him a year bc he has some pieces. He won't win it bc he can't coach, players leave, repeat. Oh and if a get Bryant that is a 3rd player that is getting removed from the team this season. No thanks, time for Crean to Crean himself. -
Potential coaching change suggestions

I would have nightmares that what Michigan did to Shaka in the dance a couple years ago would be common -

So will it matter if Crean is gone?

Potential coaching change suggestions
Feathery replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To be honest I've been thinking a SEC football school is the best place for Crean. He gets paid well and no scrutiny. Plus his payday offsets what IU owes him. Win-win. -
I would love to have Bryant, but he needs to commit to the school and not the coach. Bc if it's a choice of Crean and Bryant or a new coach, I want the new coach.

Potential coaching change suggestions
Feathery replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fans won't pick the coach, but the next coach will bring Hoosier fans home? There is no former coach or player at IU that will unite the fanbase. Not even The General himself bc he is well past his prime. There is only one coach to unite the fanbase, bring back the older fans, middle aged fans, younger fans, male, female, red, yellow, black, and white and that is Brad Stevens. The same Brad Stevens that the fanbase is wanting. So I think it's not the back to the future player you are hinting. -
BB, I want to conduct an experiment...
Feathery replied to swatford's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No I would have voted yes until I realized that IU can buy Crean out and pay little to nothing to get rid of him. The buyout number everyone talks about doesn't have to be paid by IU. -
You are overestimating Creans coaching ability. We are in the abyss. 7 years ago was hell. We won't be going back there. But Crean has us squarely in the abyss. You have no idea if Stevens, Marshall, or Miller would or wouldn't come. So your arguement is keep Crean bc your scared of change.....
