Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall
Feathery replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He doesn't want to take a program at the bottom and bring them up. He loves winning to take the step back, when he can wait for the right job. He will get s top program sooner or later. -
Depends. If it's someone not in the tournament then yes. If they are still playing next weekend, then I doubt it. Unless Crean is legitimately got another job lined up and is ready to go. Or worst case, he is staying.

Vincennes came out very nervous. Looked like their 2 starting senior guards were up for it. The rest looked like they were afraid to make a mistake. I felt bad for them. Guerin played well and played like they had nothing to lose. -
Halftime adjustments, what's that?
-
D+ Atrocious defense, and lack of adjustments cost them a better grade.

How many more wins does a healthy Devin Davis get?
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I see 0-1 wins difference. Davis doesn't fix the major flaws of this team. He doesn't add size (legit center) and he doesn't fix the horrendous defense. Maybe a few rebounds help win a game but that's all. -
Players lacked the "edge" just like Crean lacks the "edge" vs quality coaches.
-
Yep. It coincided with his change in demeanor/emotions and the Glass vote of confidence. Glass also came up with the $10 million mark for the buyout, which is a new number that's not in his contract. I thought for awhile it was over and started paying more attention to who the next coach could be.

There have been rumors that Crean had/is negotiating his departure. Don't know if @neverdaunted knows or not, but it's out there.

I thought you needed a center to play defense? who knew.

Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall

First Bo is the best coach in the Big Ten right now. A clone of him would put is on the dance every season and would be way better than we are now. Bo didn't do anything in Div 1 until he got the Wisc job. Marshall at the D1 level has 17 championships in 17 years. But hey let's keep Crean bc we don't want to improve our coaching. We want to wait 3 years to see if we can make a change for Brad Stevens who has less of a resume than Gregg Marshall. Only to have Brad Stevens say no thank you and stay with the Celtics Ultimately if the IU job comes open Stevens will have to decide soon than later. He either wants it or he doesn't. If he doesn't now, he won't later bc it means he likes what he is doing in Boston and the plan they have. In a couple years that plan will be developing and they will be a solid playoff team with a chance to do damage with the correct signings. So now or later it's still do you want to coach at IU, no need to wait. -

I don't think they look alike or even act alike. At halftime Marshall didn't talk in platitudes, he actually said where they needed to be better and what players where struggling. He wasn't pacing the sidelines and was cool calm and collected, his team reflected that. -
Might be a wimp but he is a survivor. He already sent out feelers bc it's going to happen either soon or next year.

I don't get to watch every game but I will keep up with the scores every weekend.

Let's hope it's a change. Oh and Hova, c'mon you Spurs!!!

I'll be at Southport to watch the Alices. Let's hope for a great performance, resulting in a trip to state -
Saw a tweet that said over the last 3 seasons Tom Crean has had more lottery picks than NCAA victories, because "It's Indiana"
-
No player is going anywhere. Get them a top coach that can help them become winners on the court and everyone will be happy.

Round of 64 rings as a Crean parting gift? Too soon?#RollTide #NoDefense

Yep. Time to wait and see what happens. if he isn't gone that means we need a new AD and new HC.

He isn't leaving for a bottom type program. He will only leave for a blue blood or a program that can excel. Texas, Florida, Cuse would be the type of programs he will leave for. Power conference schools have came after him and he tells them no. He wants to win and he isn't going to a dead end program. He is very smart about his career. -

How about 17 championships won in 17 years! Who cares what his NCAAS record was at Winthrop or WSU. Doing that gets you a coach like John Groce at Illinois. He probably wasn't favored to win any NCAA games until last years first round game. Even as a 1 seed they were under dogs to UK. Event bough his teams aren't as talented as the ones he comes up against, he still has been to a final four. What do you think he could do with the resources he would have available to him at IU? Give him a $750,000 recruiting budget and guarantee he won't go a year without a big or any shooters. He will do what he always has done and build a consistant winner. Finished outside the top 3 in his conference 2 times in 17 years. That is the track record we need. Oh and those 2 years were when he took over the WSU program and in year 2 he finished 5th. Again a homerun. -

My opinion is you are wrong. He has the style and knowledge to take this job and run with it. All he has done was win and win big at every stop. He reminds me of a better Bo Ryan before Bo took the Badgers job. He has proven time and time again he has the X's and Os to get the job done. Getting enough talent isn't an issue for any coach at IU. It's about getting a diciplined hard nosed team to get after it. Winning 17 championships in 17 years, finishing outside the top 3 in conference only 2 times is absolutely amazing. The only other mid major coach that could compete with that was Brad Stevens and the NBA came calling. Everyone and their brother wants Stevens, including myself. But if he says no, Gregg Marshall is a homerun. -
The difference between IU basketball and Nebraska football is recruiting footprint. They can't stay in state and field a quality team. IU basketball can. It easier to get a basketball team back to elite status than football.
