Which coach would you rather have?

So his best players are academically ineligible yet he still wins the Big XII and still manages high seeds in the dance. -

Then so is Coach K, Roy, Izzo, etc. All have had dirt thrown at them and accused of doing shady things to get players. Recruiting is a dirty game. To win banners one hads to be able to negotiate through that and not break the rules but dealing with handlers is let of the deal. -
As do I. I was just going off the assumption of only Bryant the OP gave.
-
As long as it is within the rules, I don't care what a coach has to do to get a recruit. I don't care if it looks shady or fits within a loophole. Just DO NOT break the rules. So if there is something Crean can do and get Thon (or any other top recruit) he needs to do it. Just don't break the rules.

Starting 5: Yogi JBJR Johnson Williams Bryant
-
So starting 3 McD All Americans and 2 more top 50 players. Our top 2 starters are upperclassmen. Off the bench we have experience in Hartman (jr), NZ (5th yr sr), and Perea (sr). That's the best roster in the Big Ten, with the only weakness is a backup PG. Expectations (aka a good year) Record: 28-5 Conference: Big Ten Champions BTT: Finals Tournament: Final Four Post season: Crean has a great class coming he stays. If not and its a new rebuild he needs to go. Sustained success is required. What I think will happen Record: 25-8 Conference: top 4 BTT: Semi finals Tournament: Swee16/elite 8 Post season: Crean fired/Resigns/New job

Bill Self, a decade on Bjg XII championships, Multiplenfinal fours, a national championship. Only 52-53 years old. -
Did the Op of the original thread say NBA? I was under the impression he was talking about a transfer.
-
New assistant? :)
-
Shaka Smart has bust written all over him, imo. If Texas get him, they didn't upgrade. Marshall and Miller would be solid.
-
At UT it won't matter who gets hired they will be able to reruit the state. Texas is a UT-Austin state
-
He has recruited the South and Texas is a huge recruiting hot bed. Dallas and Houston produce quality players. Edit: I'm not saying it will happen. I too doubt it.
-
The only schools I've seen for Crean were Texas and PITT (if Dixon goes to DePaul). The media blew up the Bama stuff and Crean point blank said he wasn't going to Bama. The Texas and PITT rumor were from guys who have sources and were being nice enough to share.
-
Lol.
-
I saw where a mod on another board said he heard the rumors of Crean to Texas a few weeks ago. Not saying it's gospel, just saying the thought has been out there.
-
If it's the guy I'm thinking of, he is from Indiana, went to Ohio State and can't stand Crean.

https://mobile.twitter.com/clubtrillion/status/581932053018456064 Titus seems to think Crean to Texas.

Hanner Parea is 6'9" with a 7'2"+ wingspan. The defense goes beyond getting more height.
-
You realize it wasn't lack of post presence that killed our defense. It was our lack of being able to stop dribble penetration at the wings. Remember to wasn't the same team minus Vonleh. We also had JBJR and Johnson as new starters. Adding a big doesn't fix our defense as simply as you are stating. There must be improvement on the wings first and foremost. Look at other teams of our size (MSU) and their ability to play defense.

What a great job he has done with this group. Probably his least talented team to make it this far. IZZO = PERINNEAL CONTENDER
-
Yes I would. It would be Kansas. Self is still only 52 and has many years left.

Tom Crean Update from Fred Glass
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This couldn't be more wrong. We don't lose the core this year with a coaching change. We lose the core next year no matter what. I'd rather get a new coach in this season to have a good roster and a year to recruit to replace the core. Next year we lose Yogi, Perea, NZ, and most likely Troy is gone. JBJR and Bryant/Maker could go one and done if they have good years. That could be 6 players to replace next season. You want to bring in a new coach and have to replace half the roster? This year is the year. Crean not only has to make a run but he needs to hit a homerun in recruiting for next years class. He can't be a perineal contender unless he pulls a UK type class. He was put on a one year notice and if he is smart he will bail for the first decent job he can get. -
Lol. This made my laugh. Well played.
-
I'm not disagreeing. I want a change. I was just stating if he stays for next year he must have us poised to be good the following year as well. Sustained success is my biggest gripe.
-
It goes beyond having a good year next year. He would need to be able to sustain it. He built it once and couldn't. He is on the cusp to having it built again. He can't have another drop off like we did the past 2 seasons. If we land Bryant he will be a Big Ten title contender for sure.
