I'm pretty sure it won't be completed until the 2016 season. So it should still be under construction this coming season.
-
Good luck to him. Not sure how well havoc works in a big conference. I just remember trey Burke and Michigsn ran rampant over them to win by 20+ and a verdell jones IU team beat them. I wouldn't want him at IU unless he can prove it at another major conference school first. I do think it was a good move for him.
-
I don't want Crean but my expectations with those guys will be a Big Ten Championship and a final four.
-
Just pull the trigger after we have everyone on campus for next season. I'm good to wait till July 1 at 0001 for the firing and a 0800 press conference to announce Stevens as the new head coach.
-
Since 2000 Duke, UNC, Kansas, and Kentucky have won their conference/tournament 25% of the time of greater. I'm not a Crean "hater" but I want IU on or with hese schools. If somehow Crean can pull it off excellent, though his history says he can't. If we need to make a change, then when the timing is right for a can't miss guy (STEVENS), we need to make the move.
-
They had self imposed 1 scholarship reduction for this season and that figures into the first year of the penalty. So they only have to be at 11 for the first year, then at 10 the following year. They definitely have room for Bryant
-
Watching Bryant for the first time. I can't say I see anything that makes me believe he is a one and done. I get that it's an all star game, I just think he is a multi year player.
-
And we will get a new coach. It is an all or nothing year no matter what for Crean. Let him get as much talent as he can and roll the dice. It's put up or shut up time. I would love to see Thon and Bryant in candy stripes next season.
-
If he lands both and wins a title he stays. You don't get rid of a ncaa winning coach immediately after he wins it all. i would also think winning a title would help spur recruiting to a higher level. In turn we could potentially get that sustained success we all have been wanting. If things drop down to where we have been the last 2 years after winning a title, then he needs to go and we need Bread Stevens. Ultimately, Crean isn't good enough to win a title and all this talk is just that talk. Fire him for Stevens anytime STEVENS is ready.
-
After watching that, I feel like if UK jumps back in and make a push for him, he will go to Lexington.
-
If that would happen I would expect Glass to be fired.
-
Time will tell but I'd much rather have Gregg Marshall over Crean any day. But your right Crean is a double compared to Marshall bc Marshall is a home run. Stevens/Donovan are grand slams.
-
James even said himself he didn't know where he was going until he went on the air. He was going back and forth. From what I remember he said he had both hats with him at the studio.
-
I know what Glass said. I was wanting to know your opinion is, unless you are Glass. :) We are basically on the same page then. I'm just not jumping over to the support Tom Crean side until he takes us deep in March, has a quality recruiting class signed for 2016, then can keep us towards the top of the conference while the new core is young.
-
Crean almost makes $4 million after his base salary and extras are met. So $$ isn't the issue. Donovan has a senior to be in high school. Stevens is only in year 2 with Boston and they have made him some promises. They made him promises last off season that didn't happen. They will get another chance this summer.
-
And he has proven that he can produce more lottery picks than NCAA wins over the last 3 years. Good thing we have multiple burger boys the last 3 years to get him over the hump.
-
Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan. I would say Marshall but I believe that ship has now sailed with Texas open. As for Stevens and Donovan its all about timing.
-
What if it's not a quality recruiting class? I'm with you if he has a quality class. It shows consistancy can be achieved. He is clearly on the hot seat and recruiting for the following year will be difficult bc of it. He will have to replace the core with a new core. Which means it has to be a good class. Not one that will take 3 years to develop, some of the guys have to hit the ground running and contribute right away.

Indiana Improving Year by Year?
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
In turn if you don't count the first 3 years then I don't want to hear about landing Vic or the Hulls class. Those don't count. See it goes both ways and I get a chuckle over it. You only get to count the good and not the bad. In fairness I don't hold the losses the first 2 years against him. -
It's just as hypothetical as your excuse of we miss out on 2 great years. You can't just say if Crean is gone we suck. It doesn't work that way. If Crean is gone another coach is hired and that coach would have had a quality roster minus a center to win with. I believe that we would have landed Brad Stevens and in turn we still land Zeller. His family are IU fans and all 3 would have been Hoosiers if circumstances were different. You can disagree with me on that point but I'd put it at a 90% likelihood Stevens would have taken the job. As for your list earlier about ok with Crean being back bc we have a final four team, I agree to an extent. Talent wise we have enough to win the Big and make the Final Four. If we don't its bc of coaching. Creans style doesn't translatebto big March success. Teams must play quality defense and operate efficiently in a half court offensive game. Coaches have to make adjustments or get beat. Those are 3 of Creans biggest weaknesses. But let's say Crean makes a final four, we lose 5/6 players (Yogi, Troy, JBJR, NZ, Perea, maybe Bryant), are you willing to give him 2 more years to rebuild like we just went through? I'm not. Even with a final four, he needs to land a quality recruiting class to show we have the talent to contend in conference the next season. I want sustained success at being towards the top of the conference, with big years mixed in.
-
No we grab Stevens before Boston would have called. Zeller is still a Hoosier and we likely go further than the Sweet 16.

Which coach would you rather have?
Feathery replied to TomPritchard25's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Except he has multiple final fours and a national championship. -
Other boards discuss the same rumors. It feels to me that the overwhelming majority of other boards want Crean to be gone. You get the same few voices saying Crean deserves more time. So it's the majority (us) and the minority (them). As far as intelligence scale, I've seen some blind loyalty for Crean by people who when challenged and given facts can't/wont respond to why he should stay. They usually try to deflect or name call and turn it into an us vs them.

I'm saying Self isn't different than any other coach outside of Bo Ryan who people have mentioned. Crean has had players ruled ineligible. K has players with Jewelry. Roy has academic issues. Izzo has had shadiness with the Dawson recruitment. Cali has middle men. Pearl has BBQs, Sampson has phone calls. Basically if you recruit kids in the top 25 talent pool you are going to get a little dirty. It's all about keeping the school out of trouble and not passing the line. -
Indiana Improving Year by Year?
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
lets take out those 2 years and see what the resume in the Big Ten looks like. Then spin it to be positive. Spoiler alert: he regressed from year 2 to 3. I count year 3 against Crean bc of the regression. Get rid of the Zeller years and his first 2 bc of the rebuild. He has a losing record in conference.
