  1. St Johns is absolutely terrible. There is no chance we lose this game. If by some miracle we do, then we are way worse than anyone thought...

    TOM CREAN FIRED

They can be released but most will wait for the new coach to be hired first.

    TOM CREAN FIRED

Said in the Spring we needed Gregg Marshall. Still believe Crean isn't the answer.

Big Ten hasn't looked good so far outside of MSU and IU. Maryland looks very beatable.
  5. If love to see Rawle on the team next year. If not I'd rather not waste a scholarship on a flier. 2017 is a big class for the state and IU is sitting well with a lot of the best guys. Love to see the staff go all out for Rawle and Thon and if they don't land them bank the scholarships for the following season.

    Rounding out the '16 class...

I don't think a great season wins back the fans. Most fans I know are eyeing next season as his make or break year. i do think a good year helps with recruiting and we need to have a great year bc 2017 is a huge class in state. Lots of talent close to home that like IU.

It's not easy being Tom Crean

The comment was in turn to the poster saying Crean was the only coach that wanted the job. As for Cal, what kids at UK have been in trouble? I admit I don't follow them closely other than he wins and wins a lot.

It's not easy being Tom Crean

    1. No such thing as grey area in recruiting. It's either illegal or it's not. If Crean isn't doing everything possible to get a top recruit within the rules then he isn't doing his job. 2. It's not unreasonable to expect improvement each year until the program could be sustainable as a top Big Ten team. Simple improvement would have sufficed so it's not unreasonable to hold year 3 against him when we failed to do that in conference.

It's not easy being Tom Crean

According to the guys I turn to for info.....i.e. ties to the program back then. Both guys were interested but IU wasn't. We were coming into the Sampson sanctions and IU wanted a squeaky clean image. The goal wasn't to hire the best coach. It was to hire the safest guy who wouldn't get us into trouble again. You don't have to believe me and I don't care if you do.

It's not easy being Tom Crean

I don't think you have a problem with how I evaluate anything. I said I think it will be a 2 year process. I think that bc our AD loves Tom Crean and won't get rid of him unless he absolutely has too. So I think it will take 2 seasons (or less) for there to be a critical mass for Glass to be forced to make the change. That 2 years will give Crean enough time to either show big improvement or to make it clear to those who are ardent supporters of his to finally say enough is enough.

    Prepare early for a meltdown!!!

I'm anti meltdown as well. When you say we will be fine, what does that mean? What's the standard for fine? I know what I think it means and we may or may not have the roster pieces to reach that. Still waiting to see if we can land some instant impact guys that will be needed.

It's not easy being Tom Crean

Wrong. Calipari and Pitino both were interested but IU isn't. Say what you want about them but we have a mediocre program and they have both won national championships since Crean has been here. As for Crean he regressed in year 3 in conference. Increasing win totals vs cupcakes means little to me. When it mattered he regressed, it counts. I think it ends up being a 2 year process for him to cement himself and be here for many more years or for him to get fired. He must have a good year this year. He has to win something (Big Ten, BTT, NCAA) and make a deep run (Elite 8 plus). He must also have a good enough team next season to stay towards the top of the conference and make the dance comfortably in a "rebuild" year plus have us poised for another deep run after that. He fails anywhere along the way he needs to be gone. Ultimately the past is the past. It's what can he do going forward that matters. He has been given time, maybe too much, and what he does over the next 18 months will make or break him at IU.

    Prepare early for a meltdown!!!

My view is there is no need for a meltdown. Crean will either land a top class and keep us in the top half of the conference in a "rebuild" year or he will be gone after next season.

IU vs Austin Peay Post Game Thread

fun game to watch. Hard to tell how good we are until we play a team with a pulse. Maybe Creighton is decent, I don't know anything about them this season. Go Hoosiers.

    Eastern Illinois Replay on TV?

I say we do a mass boycott and not pay to watch it online. Listen to it on the radio if you can't make it to the game. Watch the replay later.

(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU

Rabjohns tweeted that he was measured 6'10" in shoes recently. Put some muscle on him and we will have a solid Big Ten post player.

(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU

I think you are forgetting the front court of Zeller/Warford as being the best. We will have a drop off next season bc of the caliber of players we will lose/likely lose. Even if we land some more quality talent we will be losing veteran talent in Yogi and likely Troy and getting freshmen. I do agree reloading allows for consistency and I hope we have a good year and land some more talent. Go Hoosiers.

    State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?

I think ratings matter to an extent. I think you have to take style of play into consideration. Big Baby was a McD All American but he would have been terrible playing in a fast paced style game in and game out. Also, coaches need to figure out of the kid is mature enough to work hard and keep their nose clean. Jereme Richmond was a 5 star that couldn't stay out of trouble in high school or after and actually saw his star start to fall before getting to college. On the flip side a lower rated recruit who is a great athlete and has a great work ethic may be a better fit. Oladipo and Rodney Carney are a couple of examples.

    Indiana Hoosiers/Golden State Warriors

As a life long Warrior fan and watching them a lot last season, they are not thin up front but they rarely played more than 1 big at a time. Nevertheless the defensive principles and tactics that they displayed all season are what Crean needs to establish with his college teams. Agree with you on Crean saying he wants to run and gun and not seeing it. The best way to play up and down is by locking down defensively and getting out on the break. It seems more often or not after a made basket we are sprinting down the court trying to beat the defense down the court. I also think the lack of defense has been a key reason consistency hasn't been achieved during his tenure. The lack of defense has also created a ceiling on how far his teams can go. Crean will never win a championship with subpar defenses. The vast majority of national champions since Kenpom started his advanced stats website, have had top 10 defensive efficiencies. The Warriors have shown you can play championship caliber defense, even being small and at a much higher level.
  21. Crean wants to play an NBA style and we don't have much depth up front. This is very similar to Golden State last year. Was watching highlights of the Warriors and they are #1 in the NBA in offensive and defensive efficiency. I hope Crean has been studying their defensive philosophy and principles and implementing them this offseason/preseason.

IU leads SI projected offensive ranking

I don't listen to talking heads for predictions bc I refuse to lower what expectations should be. A roster like this one should be a Big Ten Title and at least an Elite 8. There are not 8 rosters in the country better than ours.

IU leads SI projected offensive ranking

We are starting 3 McD All Americans at PG, SG, and C. That doesn't say dark horse to me. That says deep tourney run and conference championship. I just hope we get the D fixed bc offensively we will be fun to watch.

ESPN article on Crean 'feeling the heat'

I fully expect Crean back for next season. Things would have to implode this season for him to get canned. I'm looking at next season as the season to make or break him. We look to be taking a dip in talent for next season. A down year and his low buyout will see him out the door. Then again, maybe he surprises us this year, win the Big Ten and makes and Final Four. We have the talent to do that. If that happens I expect Glass to give him an extension and in moronic fashion put a huge buyout in there again.

IU leads SI projected offensive ranking

We should be explosive offensively. If we can somehow figure out how to play defense, then the year could be special.
