(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU
Feathery replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That’s the problem. These guys got poor coaching for years. Now when the best talent is gone, the top of the roster is a collection of poorly coached role players. Archie didn’t inherit some stellar roster. He is trying to make lemonade out of lemons. I think JF will bring some excitement off the bench because of his athleticism. It might not be his freshmen year, but he will be a nice addition to a quality team. -

How is it not a lack of talent? We lost 3 professional players off a NIT team. -

RP is putting up some big numbers. I just question if he will be able to translate it to the college game being 5’6”. :) -
I think Archie is doing a fantastic job. I’ve already said I couldn’t care less about wins and losses this year. To me it’s all about setting the foundation, which is what he is doing. Watch our offensive sets when the team is playing smart and under control. It typically leads to a wide open shot, we just aren’t a good shooting team. Watch the defense and when people get wide open 3’s. It’s typically from a lack of communication or a player is slow to get out on the man. To me this seasons struggles have been about the players, as the system on both sides of the ball look to be very sound. Mid expect some more ups and downs this season. We just have a limited roster, I don’t care where players were ranked in high school. This is a different level and they were recruited to play in a totally different style. They are going through culture shock right now.

IUBB vs Fort Wayne - 12/18 @ 8:00 E.T.

Can’t say this is a surprise. The team seems to play to the level of their competition. Plus they just heat a ranked team 2 days prior, mental hangover. The level of intensity was severely lacking. College basketball is a guards game and we have a inconsistent SG and a backup PG that are both starting. -
Year 3 we are a tournament team and a Buc Trn title contender. Should be consistently in the upper half going forward. Getting Romeo speeds this up. We can still get into the dance next year, but likely a bubble team at best without Romeo.

I think we are fine as we sit right now for next year, still plenty of time to add to the roster. There is playing time available and scholarships to go around. If I’m a quality guard I have to take a hard look at IU. I fully expect Archie to go out and get Romeo, a grad transfer, or quality JUCO transfer SG.

I’d expect Al to be the starting PG next yet. Get Romeo and the backcourt is looking solid to me. The front court is already solid. Deron needs to hit FT’s. With Romeo we are a NCAA team easily, IMO. -

Once I saw the reality of the situations Archie inherited, I decided not to get caught up in wins and losses. I’m more interested in overall team improvement. Even in these losses, I’ve seen progress. The offensive system is getting open shots, getting to the FT line, limiting turnovers. The Packline defense is a top notch defense but Archie said it will take a 3 years for it to be at its optimum level. -

12-15 win season is what I thought after ISU loss. Nothing has changed my mind. It’s jist where the talent is at right now. -

Al Durham wasn’t even in the Smith range and he is doing fine. The guys coming in seem to have a better skill set than the ones departing. Their will be growing pains but it appears shooting will improve by sheer talent improvement next year. -

Not even close to accurate. Crean ball relied on hitting the 3. This team is a terrible 3 point shooting team. -

He was a no show last year too. -

Yep, part of the blame goes to Glass for keeping Crean a few years too long. -

It could be worse, Crean could be coaching this team. -

I’m not ready for it to be over, however Im ready for a influx of talent. I’m not sure what Crean was trying to build with this roster. Yikes. -

Archie is going to go bald from pulling his hair out this year. Senior guards who can’t shoot and turn it over. -

I get why you say it has to be, but is that reality? Or just wishful thinking? edit: I can see it going either way tbh. -

Do you think the talent and experience on the roster next year will be good enough to go dancing? -

Not even close to a winnable game. It’s a well coached offensive team playing at home in the Big Ten. Vs a IU team that will be wildly inconsistent as they are learning a new system and are ranked in the 200’s on defense. The only road games on paper that are winnable will be Neb, Rutgers, Illinois, and maybe Ohio st. -

We don’t have quality 3 point shooters. Getting 2 is better than getting 0 -

This. There has been a lot of breakdowns on defense. It’s a process. -

It will be a very young team. This is definitely a 3 year rebuild, which coincides with what Archie has said from the beginning. It will take 3 years until his D is running at a optimum level. We need more players who can knock down an open 3. Hopefully we got that in the recruiting class.
