JUCO: 6'4" SG Sean McNeil to West Virginia

Can this guy play defense? He can obviously shoot, but will he be a liability on the other end? -
(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I wonder if Archie and company will make a big push for Watford. Will Wade is in big trouble from those wiretaps. So to me LSU is gone, and they were his likely leader. Make a push and see if it goes anywhere. -
2 seasons ago, nobody thought Morgan would be what he was his junior and senior season. Looking at the roster, as is, I still think next year we improve minus Romeo and Morgan. We just started 4 freshmen/sophs in the big ten tournament. That is a really young core. Use the off-season and get healthy and keep building. We lose a 5 star SG, who can’t shoot and a undersized post player. We add a 5* post player who has the size and a wing who fits IU and can shoot. Hunter was cleared awhile ago for non contact. Added experience from our already young core and we will see improvements. Don’t forget we improved from year 1 to year 2. Momentum is not lost or stopped. Here is just one potential lineup, 9 man rotation, which to me is top half of big ten quality PG - Phinisee SO SG - Durham JR SF - Hunter RSFR PF - TJD FR C - Davis SR bench - Green SR, Smith JR, Franklin FR, Race SO. That is a better offensive team than we have put out in 2 seasons. It’s also bigger and longer for the pack line defense. Now I also expect some roster changes to occur. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. But overall, year 3 has always been key for Archie. He said it takes that long to get the defense where it needs to be. I thought the defense was pretty good this year, when the effort was there. But we had so much youth and passive leaders, it created inconsistency.

Good luck to him. -
I take it you know him personally to make that statement?

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

It’s the mob mentality. The average IQ drops significantly. -
Heard he is getting an extension.

Football needs those recruiting hotbeds to compete on a national level. There isn’t enough talent in the Midwest to compete without getting kids from jersey and the dmv. Plus the TV markets give all members $$$$. That money, could be used to pay for facilities and help in the arms race.

Where Did Our 3-Point Shooting Ability Go?
Feathery replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You mean when 3 players, that are pro players, leave the program and teams can focus more on Green his % will go down? Who woulda thunk it? My comment was a piggyback to yours. Meant to be an addition, not a counter. -
I wouldn’t right off any younger player. It takes time to develop. Some of these guys will develop into rotational players, not stars.

I admire your commitment to this season. I checked out on this season weeks. I haven’t watched a full game in a month. I’m ready for this season to be over and I’ve been thinking about next year for awhile. Really, I’m ready for the season after that if I’m honest. That’s when I think we start to see some consistency or we will have clarity if we have the right guy.

JUCO: 6'4" SG Sean McNeil to West Virginia
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
If we are going to have roster spots available, then we need to take some experienced players. Archie knows he has to make the dance next year. I expect the Juco and grad transfer route to be looked at heavily. -
Should it have happened sooner, sure. But I think this is what happens when you hire a young coach. He hasn’t seen it all and is still figuring things out himself.

What does an Archie Miller Indiana player look like?
Feathery replied to Old Friend's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think his type of player will depend on the position. Here is a brief synopsis of how I think he looks at it. PG - Value the ball, Facilitator, hard nosed, a threat to shoot. SG/SF - can take his man off the dribble. Long and athletic. Hard nosed. Adequate 3 pt shooter PF/C - springy, long, can finished around the rim. -
I watched the first half and I don’t k ow what Cathedral was trying to do. Guys chucking terrible shots, missing bunnies. Armaan Franklin looked good but he didn’t touch the ball except for about every fourth possession. I assume the 2nd half was more of the same.
-
Having 2 bigs that can’t shoot doesn’t spread the floor. It doesn’t help unclog the paint. It doesn’t help our 3 pt %. When I say talent issue, I’m looking at the team composition. The parts don’t fit for a successful team. There is too many redundant parts to the roster. We are lacking in the talent of shooters. I think some of the young guys can get there, but that doesn’t help now.
-
Teams have scouted and adjusted. They know IU doesn’t shoot the ball well, so the clog the middle. Hard to have teams spread out when you can’t shoot the ball. It’s a talent issue.
-
It should tell you about the lack of depth behind him. Let’s be honest, Jerome Hunter being out all season has been a huge loss. He likely starts over Smith and Smith is a energy guy off the bench.
-
why is Smith shooting a jump shot on the way down?

Just logged on to say the same thing. Pure fire!

Tom Crean to be next Georgia coach / 6 year 3.2 Million annually
Feathery replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Actually he has made changes in the past. He ditched his huge playbook in favor of a dribble drive offense we saw at IU. He changed from what got him the IU job to what ended up relying on superior athletes and superior 3 point shooting and it cost him, IMO. He couldn’t consistently get the pieces to have this style and the results showed and he was fired after a decade of it. -
Not B1G programs, but I’m interested in seeing what will happen to Duke and UK when the one and done rule is gone. They are going to have young rosters without the elite talent that they are accustomed. Will K retire instead of building it back up over 2-3 seasons? What’s Cal do when his recruiting pitch is gone?
-
Collins is doing just fine at NW. already has taken them farther than any coach in their history. They also dismissed who was supposed to be their starting PG before the season. If you don’t have a PG in this league, then you are in trouble. He will have plenty of leash to fix the roster and he is recruiting well for NW standards.
