Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Revenue share will be here within 5 years I’d guess. That’s the reoccurring. But let’s be honest, the Cooks are worth $6 billion. Even a modest return on say half that would be $300 million a year. Donating $5-6 mil a year is very easily done. That goes for any of the billionaire donors. I know Michigan has looked to set up a fund for NIL. Where they get big donations and then pay the players through the returns on the investments and never touching the principle. They haven’t done it yet but there has been talk of it. I think lack of clarity on revenue sharing and what NIL looks like after is holding it up. -

I’d argue the NBA is not the normal working environment. I was referring to the average workplace I work as a contracted worker but I can break the contract with notice. So I support the right of anyone to have free movement of employment. I know I don’t want anyone telling me I have to stay somewhere I don’t want to be. also if the players aren’t worth it then why is Iu paying? Bc they are worth if you want to compete. If you want to be a D2 school then sure don’t pay NIL. -

Bc IU NIL is large enough that if one is a contributor they will stay instead of transferring out. how do you know they are not? -
NIL benefits schools like IU who have deep pockets and wouldn’t pay before NIL. There is a reason why IU fell behind Duke, UConn, UNC, UK, KU over the last 3 decades. IU didn’t pay and the “blue” bloods did.

lol. Yup. My wife enjoys going to games but I have a feeling this is more about going to the Bahamas for her. lol.

I tend to agree that it’s next year as a make or break year. But as far as the talent on the team, it seems to be upgrading. But we need to see what the entire roster looks like in order to see what deficiencies there are. Too many spots left to fill to know.

The fanbase helps. Nebraska with NIL and a competent coach will be good. Their recruiting has picked up over the last year. I agree about not going to get a top notch name, like a Pearl. Stevens will never happen imo. I’m friends with a former player of his and he doesn’t want to recruit high school kids anymore. But there will be some solid names. I do think Shrewsberry in an interesting name if he can have a good year at ND this year. And they have the potential to be a good team imo. See how Schertz does at SLU. Tonsoni on Assembly Call thinks Woodson will get 2 years no matter what and that will be enough time for Shrews and Schertz to prove a little more.

In your scenario I’d go PG- Rice SG - Hickman SF - Mgbako PF - Reneau C - Ballo Bench: Galloway, Carlyle, Cupps, Turner, Leal, etc. -
My thought was they weren’t hired by the athletic department but rather it could be Woody or his agent hiring them. Definitely could be a relative or someone close to the coaching staff. End of the day, Woody wins at a good clip this year and has a decent March then everyone will be supportive again. A good season next year and this past one looks more like a blip with a low point of 10-10 conference record. I’m skeptical but now that he is staying I’ll be supportive. heck the wife and I usually host Thanksgiving but are looking at going to the Bahamas for the Battle of Atlantis tournament to watch IU play and enjoy the beach over the holiday. Lol

Sounds like the workplace to me. only way to solve this is to make them employees and have collective bargaining with the players union, which needs to form. Then they will have revenue share from the tv contracts. This has been discussed as a reason for conference expansion for awhile. The schools know they will have to share revenue eventually and are getting front of it so when they do share they will still have the 50-60 mil per school they had before. Going to be a few years yet but it will get sorted. -

Why? Malik will be in foul trouble within 4 minutes of the first half, and promptly go to the bench. Problem solved. lol -

Who cares how much money. It’s not our money and the donors said they wouldn’t be outbid by anybody to support Woody. So let them. There is no money ball needed when you have the most money to spend. Oakland never won a World Series with moneyball. Make it rain boosters, make it rain. -
Almost like a company has been paid to do a social media campaign. It’s weird.

I’d have the Stevens to IU at 0%. The guy doesn’t want to recruit and he stopped coaching to work in the front office. Sounds like he doesn’t even want to coach anymore either.

lol. I said 34% from 3 is better than 50% from 2. I had to go back and double check it. Haha. I remember taking an essay test in college and I used a statistic and I worded it wrong. I had the stat right but the way I worded everything made me look like an idiot. The professor literally used it as an example without telling the class who did it. I was like what idiot does that. Then it was my paper. Oops. Haha. -

I think Mgbako was averaging like 4 attempts a game in conference or something like that. I could see him doing 6 a game next year. If Iu attempts 5 more 3’s a game they will be on pace with where Purdue was this year, 20ish attempts a game. To be top 100 in 3pt attempts this season I believe the number of attempts per game was around 23. (Going off the top of my head as I had previously looked this stuff up but the numbers could be off). -

ok I’ll take this one on just to be a contrarian bc I don’t necessarily disagree with you. Not to be that guy but if you took a 100 3pt shots and made 33% that’s 99 points. If you took 100 2’s and made 50% that’s 100 points. So 3*33 = 2*50% is not correct. It’s actually less than. Again not trying to be a jerk but the magic number is 34% from 3 is better than 50% from 2. But when you have a quality post like TJD or and Edey shooting 58%/62% from 2 then to value the 3 point line a shooter would need to shoot 38.6% and 41.3% from 3 respectively. Malik Reneau shot 55.8% from 2, meaning an IU shooter needs to shoot it 37.2% from 3 to break even. Mgbako could do that but not until he got comfortable. There wasn’t anyone else on the roster who could shoot it well enough, outside of Mgbako and Wade, to forgo giving it to Reneau for a 2 pt attempt. Ware shot even better at 59.9% from 2, meaning a 3pt shooter needed to shoot it at 39.9% to break even. Ware shot it from 3 well and should have shot it more and that should definitely be a criticism. So from an analytic perspective shooting more 3’s as a team wasn’t the correct answer and I didn’t believe it was during the season. Having the right guys shoot them was the correct answer but it was aware and Mgbako, then X when healthy but he was up and down do to being hurt. -

Not to rub salt in the wound of the Dusty May fans but it seems he could have a decent roster in year 1. But overall, I think the conference is going to be middling. Everyone needs to fill out their rosters still but there isn’t going to be a standout team and what you proposed could literally be the best in the conference. That should get ppl excited even if they want Woody gone. To me it’s a put up or shut up situation for Woody. He will have the roster to get a possible conference title. Which means a good seed and the expectations will be a 2nd weekend run. I’m cool with that, even if the style is what I prefer. -

What’s a good 3pt shooter to you in today’s game, post line getting moved back? I’m well aware of what people’s complaints are about the style and 2 bigs. But let’s be honest, IU runs a ton of pick and role. We would see Malik and Ware both be at the 3 or line setting a pick and then rolling. That’s not just 2 guys standing in the lane like statues. Yes there were plenty of throw it down low and let them work too. But in the pick and role the guards we are targeting are not going to be running into our own bigs and both their defenders at the same time, as one of the bigs will be out at the 3 or line setting the pick. -

Big picture I agree with you on the 2 bigs. Not the style I want to see or like. I said weeks ago I wouldn’t be upset if Reneau left and got lots of push back. He is our best post player and we won’t have any talent without him type responses. But we have a HC who has his style. To a fault I expect improvement from freshman to sophomore year. So we shall see what happens with Carlyle. But as a Freshman Carlyle was 32% from 3, and 77.6% from the FT line. That’s a great starting spot for improvement. Even just a moderate 2% increase in 3 pt shooting and the defense will not be sagging off of him bc he will be shooting too well from deep. Those stats are even after it looks like he hit a freshman wall in the last month of his season. -

I just know Karaban played about 30 min a game and his backups are not good shooters. They are athletes that can play good defense. Unless it’s against PU and the whistle gets them on the bench. lol I’d guess around 20-25%. But that actual stat will be tough bc Cligan was hurt for part of the year so any stat will be skewed. So the games I watched them play it didn’t matter if it was 4 out 1 in or 2 bigs, they execute at the highest level. They are back to back champs for a reason. -

Roster construction is a big key to that. It’s a guards game and ours haven’t been good enough. Now add good guards to a a good front court and there could be something. -

Except Karaban didnt play 40 minutes a game and the guys filling his role aren’t 3 pt threats at all. So while Karaban is a great stretch 4, they didn’t play that style exclusively. Their offense was still good without Karaban. UConn is the standard and I’m not saying IU is UConn just the overblown reaction to 2 bigs is just that, overblown.
