I see it at times, others Times not so much. I have taken the view that it has come down to the players he inherited, and the youth of the squad. His guys have been freshmen and sophomores, counting Smith and Durham. Next year he will have 3 classes of recruits that know only his system, outside of Brunk. That’s huge for the culture of the program.

Question. Wouldn’t a team with improved defense and less turnovers be a reflection of the team taking the personality of the coach? Especially when that coach values defense and ball security above all.

The NCAA is ran by the same universities that make schools money. It’s in their self interest to not hammer schools that make money. They weren’t going to hammer IU, IU self sanctioned and the type of kids Sampson brought in caused IU to start over. IU can play the game on basketball and deny like UNC and Duke and get away with it.

This case is the litmus test. If these schools skate by, then IU needs to be all hands on deck. Reorganize the compliance department, give Archie the green light to have the shoe companies do the dirty work. Just keep all conversations to in person without any electronic devices around. Hell don’t even talk just write it on paper and then burn the paper. Everything is then deniable.

College basketball (and football) isn’t amateurism, at semipro. Anyone who hasn’t realized this has been fooling themselves. It’s why I don’t care if Archie plays the game. We are in it for Les, so we are playing. Just not sure to what degree we are playing yet.

True. I’d rather roll with what we have over a 1 year rental. 1 year rentals will not have the defense down to produce like Archie wants imo.

I think you would be wrong on that. I think most schools don’t care about the cheating bc the schools want the $$$

Some of you guys need to move on. I literally would never even think of Brooks if people didn’t bring him up. Wish the kid good health and move on. I say good health bc I hope UK loses every game and I couldn’t give a rats arse if they send kids to the league or not. Quinones was like 4th on their list. They are feeling good about some players they view as being a better fit. One of those players will be Mo Wagners little brother on Germany. Evidently he is a really good player. Iggy could possibly be coming back, at least he is open to it.

Offer both, will they take both though?

So will IU offer both Leal and Golloway or only offer 1? Assuming Leal gets his offer Monday.

Evidently, the IMG stats from this last season for Quinones were much improved over his AAU 3pt %. He was in the low 40s from deep this last high school season. Maybe something clicked and he has improved. Which makes me more optimistic about him.

Looks like Harris was hot during the EYBL season over 50%, but then shot 33% in the playoffs. Maybe he is just streaky like Green.

Absolutely. He was worse than Phinisee and a much lower level. Could he be a good shooter in a couple of seasons? Absolutely. He isn’t that as a freshman.

I see people keep saying this pure shooter comment. I hope everyone realizes we aren’t recruiting any pure shooters. Lester Quinones was only a 30% 3pt shooter in AAU last season, attempts in the 50’s. I think Archie see’s that he has several capable 3pt shooters and realizes the youth issue we had last season. He is looking at player development over recruiting a specialist who probably won’t be ready as a freshman anyway. Player development is hope. It should be expected on a yearly basis. Especially when in our biggest game of the year we are starting 4 freshmen and sophomores.

Durham was 35%, up 7% from his freshman year. Anderson can shoot the ball, we’ve all seen it. The college game was too fast for him. He just didn’t look comfortable out there. Most players improve the most between their freshman and sophomore seasons, so we shall see what happens.

I see the value in adding talent. I just don’t get wound up if they go elsewhere. Whoever the coaches get, just win.

I believe they cancelled his visit. I follow Michigan football recruiting and hear basketball recruiting on the same podcasts. He was like 4th on their wish list. Not sure why they cancelled but speculating they got good need on a higher priority.

Rumor on the Michigan board is that his visit there has been cancelled. Now IU is his last scheduled visit. Not sure if he will visit elsewhere before deciding.

Statistically speaking isn’t 34% the magic number you want to be above when shooting 3’s? I thought the goal was to be above 34% because that means you are scoring more than if you were shooting 2’s at a 50% rate. Obviously we want as many players as high above that as possible. But I always view 34% as the breaking point.

None of the guys we are looking at are pure shooters. We were terrible at 3’s last year because Romeo and Juwan. They were 2 of the worst % 3 pt shooters. Romeo has the highest attempts of 3’s and Juwan was 4th in attempts. Those two killed our % as a team. The wrong guys were taking the open shots. If the 3 above were taking the shots, it’s a different story.
