  1. Lol. I agree. Pass, pass, pass. Not sure who they will get, but they won’t pay more than they do for football.
  2. Current rumor on the main Michigan board is Shaka Smart. Fans aren’t happy, if true. We all know how coaching rumors go when we went through ours. Ironically, they had a Billy Donovan sighting at a Ann Arbor restaurant, with a realtor. He wasn’t looking for a horse farm, so it wasn’t true. Lol.
  3. I wouldn’t be surprised with Jordan or Howard. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Ed Cooley from Providence. He has a good relationship with the current Michigan AD.
  4. Sam Webb (Michigan’s top 24/7 guy, and radio host) had Michigan as the leader. Said on Friday if it goes past this week, then that could change. Well, not having a head coach changes things drastically.
  5. Michigan was in on a grad transfer from Oakland University, that could shoot it. Now with this move, I wonder if that is an option.
  6. And missing out on a guy who is looking for shot volume so he can go to the league ASAP is not going to help us win now.

    Samari Curtis (2019) to Nebraska

Archie said, I believe in his open speech, that it would take 3 years to get his system into place. If it wasn’t that opening speech it was in one of his many early interviews. Edit: look at most coaches and it does take 3 years to get going. I’ve posted this elsewhere. Sure there are outliers. But next season is a big year, one way or the other.
  8. Dodged a bullet possibly. I don’t like having a rival drop out of a recruitment that is perceived dirty. Reminds me of OSU turning in Pearl bc they new he was shady.

Bad run for sure. Not willing to give up on my team though. I see the issues. I see them upgrading talent. Seeing experience growing. It’s not the doom and gloom you think.

Lol. Sean Miller cheats his arse off. Mack had a good roster. Holtmann has done well but he walked into a system that had coached his style for years. But let’s not let facts get in the way of a good hate session.

Here is how I see it. He will succeed next year and the angst goes away. He loses next year, and we could be calling on Brad Stevens, depending on how the Celtics do next year.

Or Duke (K year 4), MSU (Izzy year 3), WVU (Beilien year 3), Michigan (Beilien year 2 but missed in year 3), Florida (Donovan year 3), Pitt (Howland year 3), Virginia (Bennett year 3, but missed year 4). Point being, when you take over a team that is mentally weak and soft, lacking overall top talent, it takes years to get the ship righted. Usually 3 years and your rolling. Archie has said from day 1 it was a 3 year process to implement his system. If we struggle next year, then we don’t have the guy. If he progresses next year, then we could be in store for a bright future.

Seth Greenberg was on DD a month ago, or so. He talked about if you have a one and done, you need several of them or it’s a problem. He stated several schools who took 1 such player but couldn’t make the NCAAs in the past. Stating that it creates jealousy on the team. No other play can relate to the one and done player bc their experience in college is different. The one and done goal isn’t the same as the team goal, etc. obviously Carmelo was the exception, but that was a solid team top to bottom. Compounding that with weak player (senior) leadership, and it’s a recipe for a trouble. Possibly losing 12 of 13 trouble. I don’t just write things off, sweep them under the rug. I want to find reasons why. While I wish we played in the NCAAs, I also recognize the flaws of that team and will not jump on Archie for it in year 2. Archie definitely has to grow. But we knew that when we hired such a young head coach. Gotta give the man room to breathe and grow too.

Totally agree on the mailing it in. But that’s where I see Morgan as being an issue. I saw him literally quit during the Minnesota game. He was supposed to engage leader and was soft. The upperclassmen were by and large soft and poor leaders. Edit: you might not accept 3 years, but that’s the reality and has been from day 1.

You gotta get over that 12 game stretch. They came back hard at the end. Whatever was going on behind closed doors got fixed by the end.

And out of those 12 wins only 2 were against good teams, L’ville/Marquette. When we beat L’ville, I kept think my god L’ville is better but we have to hold on. Both games were in Assembly Hall where anything is possible. The rest of the games we won were against inferior competition and a buzzer beater vs Butler (mediocre Butler team)on a neutral court. Even our December Big Ten wins were against NW and PSU. Games we should have and did win. But nothing stating we are some juggernaut.

Step out of the vacuum. When you rely on 18-19 year old freshmen and sophomores, then you will get inconsistent play. This is common to see. UK and Duke get away with it bc of overwhelming talent. That’s not the talent on IU. We have 4 year guys that need to be seasoned. That’s what we were watching happen last year, a youthful team learning, going through injury, dealing with drama. Not either. I’d be in favor of replacing McRobbie though.

Tons of schools have better rosters when they do too. People have overrated the IU roster bc it says Indiana on the jersey. I’m sorry but Morgan, while putting up good stats, wasn’t a leader. That roster 2 years ago wasn’t close to NCAA caliber. Last year squad had talent but poor leadership. Durham and Phinisee are the guys that will be the leaders, but we’re too young last year. This team hasn’t had good leadership since Yogi. Sure last season had enough talent, but when it’s not experienced talent, or a roster full of Duke talent, then you will have issues. Which IU did, and paid by missing by a game.

In year 2, yes that’s ahead of schedule. Be disappointed we were close and didn’t make it. But be encouraged that so much went wrong and we were a game away. Look at the hall of game coaches who didn’t make it in year 2. Relax.
  20. All I know is Michigan cancelled his visit bc this recruitment isn’t clean. So I’d expect Memphis. If it’s IU, then we are playing the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if we are playing the game at a Crean level right now. I’d rather be playing it one step below Sean Miller level. Lol

I did. But the expectations when Archie took over wasn’t make the dance in year 2 or be pissed. If we had made it last year then we would be ahead of schedule. Even with youth and inconsistent play from youth, we were 1 win from the NCAA’s. So the doom and gloom really is just a fan myth. Fans can create a toxic environment which makes it harder for a coach to succeed. Not sayin you are but you’ve read what some are saying on here and other boards. So I’ll fight the fight. Next year, we miss the dance and I’m with ya.

Purdue has upperclassmen leading the way. They weren’t starting 4 freshman and sophs. Edit: we definitely could have made it. We fell a game short. But making it would have put us ahead of schedule.

Sorry but in college teams lose their “best” player all the time. Our core were freshmen and Sophs. They will now be sophs and juniors. We are on pace. I’ve said this elsewhere, look at our top 8, that’s a NCAA roster. Simple as that. Not saying we make a run, but making the dance is certainly attainable.

I don’t think it’s fair. I’d say he hasn’t surpassed or disappointed. Archie has IU on track, or on pace, for where expectations were when hired. It’s always been a 3 year plan. If we miss the NCAA’s in year 3, then yes it’s disappointing. If we make the tournament then we are still on track. If we make a run, then we are exceeding expectations. Year 1, kept class together, worked on APR, wins and losses were about where everyone expected. Year 2, solid recruiting class that sets the foundation. Improved on wins and losses. Made a NIT run. On track. Year 3. He needs to improve on W-L, make NCAA’s, land another solid class of 4 year players. Above have been my expectations since day 1. The same expectations I had for Crean. The same I would have for any new coach at IU.

    Recruiting.

He can be part of an answer. The game was clearly too fast for him last season. But if he can be a solid player off the bench, it would be great.
