Money is the issue until a booster is willing to pay it. The boosters can give the money for the buyout and if Iu doesn’t want to move on, then they can withhold their donations. Pretty simple. But she wouldn’t be the only one if it came to it.

While you may be right that the wrong hire is the end of IU basketball. But honestly, if IU basketball is over then it died 4 years ago in Creans last season. Archie hasn’t risen the program up. If a new coach comes in and it’s more of the same mediocrity or worse, seats will still be empty. The only thing to get IU basketball back is to win and win consistently. I don’t care about a name coach. I just want the right coach. Whoever that may be. If it’s Archie turning it around next year fantastic. If it’s Alford, I don’t care. Matta, fantastic. Just win baby.

If healthy, Thad Matta. His buyout is low. He may like Archie but he will also recognized Archie has failed and there is a young core of quality players. But his health needs to be in a good place. Matta is only 53 years old too. edit: he is also living in Indy, as he has a kid at Butler.

No game has me at ease. I go into every game literally thinking I hope they don’t stink up the place. It’s been a long time that I sat down to watch a conference game and felt good about IU going into the game. That includes vs Nebraska and Northwestern.

Lose this game and the season is over IMO. No NCAA tournament with a loss today. IU likely loses the next 3 regardless of today. I want IU to win and make a run. Archie to turn things around. However, I don’t see that happen. Miss the NCAA’s and Dolson needs to find the money for a change.

I read it as his buyout will be over $10 mil the next 2 season. Then it will drop to an amount below that.

College basketball has been and will continue to be about who the head coach is. Get the right coach and you’re elite until they are gone. Cycle through mediocre to decent coaches and your stuck as a middling team. Kentucky didn’t make Cal. Cal was already good. Duke didn’t make Coach K. K almost got fired but finally got it going. IU didn’t make Knight. Knight was a fabulous coach and would have won anywhere. The point is, IU has the history to pull in a big time coach if it chooses to do it because of the history.

This has been a terrible half of basketball. I want to like Archie and see him be successful. When the team plays like this.......

IU burned the Bennett bridge by firing his sister. Beilein is a top coach and still is. If he was hired 15 years ago, we have multiple final fours and big ten championships. The point is the resources are there and it just takes a confident and competent coach to take IU back to the top of the conference.

I don’t think it’s an excuse that nobody wants the job. It’s an excuse bc those making the decision haven’t hired the right guys, burnt bridges with good candidates, and played politics instead of getting the best person for the job. Pitino would have came but we kept Mike Davis. John Beilein wasn’t chosen, hired Sampson instead. Tony Bennett passed on the job, he didn’t feel ready and his sister was fired from IU. Crean hired instead. Archie was a hot name but IU could have had Holtmann or Mack. They chose wrong.

Talk to coaches and they will tell you IU is a desirable job. Everyone knows that the infrastructure is there to be dominant. Just need the right coach to take it on.

In my mind, if that’s the scenario, we should be battling for the Big Ten title. We don’t have to win it but it should be coming down to the last week. Wisconsin might have a team of 25/26 year olds next season. Lol. We should also be in the second weekend of the NCAA’s. NCAA run won’t dictate keeping Archie or not. The regular season should dictate that. As I type that I’m thinking what if we finish 6th and make a final four... yeah he stays.

He has plenty of time to develop a shot. College isn’t stopping him from developing that part of his game. It’s the time willing to put in. He comes from a family of wealth already. He doesn’t need the money or to support his family. He can get his degree, likely on a top conference team and then go pro.

TJD may not care if he is a first round pick or not. However, he is projected to be a late 2nd round pick or not drafted at all. No guarantee money in that case. He’d be best served coming back.
