Crean would still be at IU if he would have been more consistent in making the dance. That’s the minimum bar. Be I. The tournament 9/10 years. Can’t make runs without being in.
-
I actually think there is a solid base to make it next year. It’s a free year and there will be plenty of movement on the transfer portal this off season. The right coach with a good reputation, like Mack, and IU adds a few strong pieces and we are a tournament team next year.
-
But has the money been raised for the next coaches buyout?
-
As a Michigan football fan, don’t get me started on this. Harbaugh was lucky to not have the game this year. We shall see if the rebuilt staff helps, it was overdue IMO.
-
I don’t think there are bad optics at this point if they decide to move on. Legislators at the state house have jokingly talked about finding it in the budget to buy Archie out. Other schools with much higher buyouts have moved on from coaches in football with little to no scorn for making the move. While money could be tight, this is a long term business move that needs to be done for the financial sustainability of the program. You can’t have the fan base not show back up when fans are allowed or have a toxic environment when those that do arrive. Perfect time for a clean break, if the money is there then use it.

Yup. Could you imagine if UNC lost 7 in a row to Duke? That coach would be fired before it got to 7 IMO. (Or I could be totally wrong bc I haven’t looked to see if it has happened in the last 30 years).
-
To be fair to those who called for his head after year 2 and 3, they were right in that he isn’t the guy for the job. I will give any coach until year 4. It was clear he isn’t the guy this year but those clamoring for it to happen sooner were just ahead of the curve.

James Franklin at PSU only hires assistants with hot wives bc that means they can recruit. I’d say Enfield can recruit. Lol
-
Maybe that’s why Enfield was contacted. So fans will love the idea of Alford! :)
-
Enfield buyout is $0 as of 4/1/21.
-
IU fans would be thrilled if we had a record of 20-6.
-
How young do you want? He is 51. He took 2 years to build at USC and has won 20+ 6 of the last 6 seasons. He had the same problem as Alford in that Arizona cheats their arses off and win the PAC12. I think he is on par with Alford. Neither would be my first choice, but both are an upgrade to Archie.

He didn’t check all the boxes. His Dayton teams played some terrible games. They had games where they scored in the 40’s and low 50’s. His offense was a question mark before he ever arrived. His success at Dayton was after the A10 lost its top teams to another conference. He benefitted greatly from conference realignment. IU would be in first if the top 9 teams all went to the ACC/SEC, that’s essentially what happened at Dayton. We also didn’t know how he would recruit at a high major level as the head coach. The warning signs were there During that search period I remember debating those who wanted Archie as the top candidate. He was on my list but he was down in the 5-10 range. To be fair my number one choice turned out to be a tool and is unemployed last I looked, Gregg Marshall.

I think there is a 0% chance he is gone before the off-season and to be honest it’s probably only 10% he is gone at all this year.
-
I was a kid and loved the Fab 5, so I can’t hate on Howard. They were my 2nd team during those years. I don’t ind Michigan being great. IU just needs to be better than the rest of the conference or on par with the top teams on conference.
-
You realize that Howard was viewed as an excellent X’s and O’s guy in NBA circles before he took the Michigan job right? Martelli was brought in to be a mentor and help guide Howard through the NCAA rule book. I’m sure Martelli as a mentor has an influence on Howard but the guy can coach and recruit.
-
Yeah it’s also tied to losing too much
-
Ed Cooley would be a backup option to me. I’d rather go get Drew than Ed. He said he would look at fit. I highly doubt he see’s Bloomington Indiana as “a fit”. But he might recognize the fertile recruiting grounds and think he could do well.
-
Maybe in a couple of years. I think some transfers are needed to get through next season. But I do think the freshmen have potential and so does the C coming in next year.
-
Archie Miller is a bust. So staying the course isn’t a better option. Stevens comes this your just as likely as next. It’s about the sales pitch. Think it’s slim to none either way with him.
-
I thought Tom Allen was a decent choice when hired. He had potential upside for sure. You could tell he had a passion about him and would bring juice to a program. At the very least he wouldn’t be boring. He also had a lot of good connections and knows how to coach some defense.
-
So you just set Fife or any other coach back another year as recruiting will be hurt after a poor recruiting haul. Making the change this year at least a gives the new coach a solid base of to be sophs to build around and start getting his guys in.
-
Correct. Dolson either has the money and will make a move or he doesn’t have it and will wait a year. Going to depend on the boosters. Of Archie gets another year he better go hit the transfer market and make some significant roster upgrades.
-
Sorry. But nothing is being rushed by firing him after the season. Dolson should have the money in hand by end of season and a shortlist of guys he is interested in interviewing within the next few weeks. He should have been working on this for at least 6 weeks or more.
-
Yeah. Not winning should always be a cause to fire. Lol
