He has the pedigree to be a solid recruiter. Has improved NBA franchises that he took over. There is potential there to be good. We shall see if it’s him.
-
Better than a midmajor or assistant IMO.
-
I wouldn’t. Archie was overrated at Dayton. Seems like a wash to me. Moser is probably more developed as a coach at this point because he has had time to develop.
-
I’ll say Hi Felicia

I don’t think football powers are going to spend big on basketball coaches. That money is better spent on football related issues. Bama may gladly take IU’s 12.5 mil and turn around and go get Chris Beard and pocket the difference to go to Saban’s recruiting budget.
-
Yeah, not a big Enfield fan either. His recruiting success at SC has been tied to hiring family of players. Maybe Drew can mend some fences. Hire a IE guy as an assistant or something to repair that relationship.
-
Drew won’t be able to recruit Indiana Elite bc of burnt bridges. Not a good situation for a IU head coach.
-
If they can pay $12 mil buyout for Holtmann, they can buyout Nate Oats.
-
You don’t know if any name will be better or lateral. Stevens could come and bomb as well. He wasn’t killing it at Butler when they moved up a conference. You get rid of an issue when it’s clear you have an issue. Firing Archie was the right call. We will see if the next hire pans out or not. Waiting a year just kicks the can. Candidates this year are the same next as far as established coaches are concerned. A booster paid the $10 mil so it’s not a financial issue. It’s a winning issue. If we get a former IU guy, why would we have another terrible year next year with Archie to hire an IU guy next year. Makes no sense. Firing Archie was always the right call. His buyout was his job security. Once that wasn’t an issue it’s a no brained to move on.

It’s a rumor yes.

Yeah. I don’t think the grand plan was to get Lewis either. I do think there was a multi-staged plan though. Stage one, fire Archie he isn’t the guy. Stage 2, go hard after Stevens. Stage 3, interview IU guys and successful established coaches and pick the best of that group. I think we are on stage 3. I do listen to Dakich but on delay. He was unusually positive on his Friday show about believing Dolson is doing a good job. Which tells me it’s either Stevens, IU guy, or someone Dan respects.
-
Unless you believe the Archie found out he was out early and was telling the players. So Dolson fired him earlier than he wanted.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

No. Glass just wanted him to keep Creans class in fold. Nobody told Miller who to recruit. -
You don’t spend $10 mil on a buyout to get a guy from Loyola.
-
You’re one of those that keep traffic backed up. Damn slow drivers.
-
We don’t know that. They could have still hit the portal if he were the coach. It’s a free year, almost anyone should be looking to be honest.

All this losing.....clearly he is in the downside of his career and well past his prime. The game has passed him. -
Get over the age thing. I get it, you’re a young coach and you will get your shot. IU can’t take a shot at a you g guy after the last experience. Needs to be someone seasoned that can handle this big of a job. This isn’t Penn St basketball.

Honestly, he has the potential to be a great recruiter at Indiana. From the state, desire for the position, NBA experience as a player and coach, NBA playoff experience as a coach. That is a fantastic place to start in terms of a recruiter profile. He actually did better at his NBA stops than the coaches before him. Which says he can coach even a poor roster. As far as the Indiana former players, he is my clear cut #1 option. And I think he would be successful. I’m totally open to him being the next coach.

Lol. Go back and look at the post I quoted and then decide if I was being serious.

Love Isaiah Thomas. He won a national title for us a few months before I was born. Was great for the Pistons too.

Candidate Thread: Eric Musselman (Arkansas)

Yeah, I think it’s needed. Celebrating with fans and his family from a distance is fine by me. Need a personality thats bigger than the fanbase so they don’t get crushed. Think that was part of Archie’s problem, the weight of the job was too much. -

I don’t think it’s him that wants the spotlight. He is just promoting his program. He is a big personality and honestly this job needs a personality big enough. -
He is but he isn’t viewed as the next head coach.
-
Or he is texting, give me a couple weeks and I’ll be the next coach at IU and we will do great things. :)
