So Boeheim is " retiring" in 3 years. I think Syracuse buys out the contract before that. Boeheim is trying to save recruiting a little bit but I can't see him making it 3 more years. So , This should be another positive for Thomas Bryant's recruiting. Seems like Coach Crean will survive for next year and maybe bringing Bryant will be the key to a big year in 2015/2016 .

"What these kids deserve is a better coach who will put them in better positions to succeed. IOW, not being on the bubble just 6-7 weeks after being ranked." I think that will take care of itself without hoping for failure of the team to make the NCAA Tournament .
-
I know where you're coming from but I just can't root against or hope for a NCAA tournament miss for IU regardless of a longer term solution. The kids out there with Indiana across there chest deserve nothing but our support . I think regardless of this years outcome the powers at be have a plan for coaching and I think it will be a year away. Support the team !

I think Crean and the IU coaching staff watched Rocky the movie right before starting the season . We played crappy zone defense and such all year long then Bam ! right when the other teams least expect it we go man to man . [ You know switch to a right handed fighter after ...... err um. Carry on. ]

(2015) C Caleb Swanigan to MSU
Diadem replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Of course seeing that his agent played both Basketball and Football at Pludoo got them on the list as a favor. Roosevelt Barnes in his day was an incredible athlete. He was probably a Major league baseball prospect but he simply could not hit a curve ball. I played against him at Ft Wayne South Side and he could crush a fastball a country mile, but would almost break an ankle chasing curves. Now he is pretty shady IMO as an agent . UK will pay for his [Swanigan] services as always. -

Can We Keep Chuck Regardless Of Crean's Status?
Diadem replied to Diadem's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think Chuck is great for IU . If we look back Kenny Johnson was given a lot of credit for Troy and Stan and Robert etc [ even though I think Crean's work with Boo Williams was more important]. But Kenny missed on a few biggies towards the end [ Maybe was thinking about a UL offer long before the announcement of his leaving for there]. But Ultimately Crean's gotta close the deal. I'm impressed that Chuck can help get these 5*s to visit at this point when our BB program is [ arguably] at one of our lowest/most uncertain points. And I think Chuck has a cooler vibe. Kenny Johnson was frequently posting his religious beliefs on twitter and yet ultimately chose to work for [IMO] a morally Bankrupt Coach in Pitino. But ultimately Chuck nor any other single coach other than the head coach is going to bring us back where IU basketball needs to be. I just think Coach Martin is a positive for the program . That's all. -
Donovan could work with our current guys best. Easily. Stevens would need players that totally buy in to his coaching, methods and roles. But longer term Stevens would get players that fit and we would be rolling.
-
I think you're right on Crean staying too. But I think if Donovan were serious/interested about coming to IU things could/would change in a hurry!
-
I actually lean Donovan with Stevens right on his heels. I think Donovan's offense is more watchable / fun but Stevens has never had the Talent Donovan has so who knows. Either one could really lock up the State but Donovan might have a more National recruiting appeal.
-
OK, I've got this all figured out. Donovan goes to the Celtics, Crean to Florida [All the Tanning you could ask for] and then Stevens to IU . We could figure the money stuff later.

Can We Keep Chuck Regardless Of Crean's Status?

I think if Crean stays [probable at this point] we get Bryant . If Adidas wants to get/secure another contract with IU we get Thon. But I can easily see your scenario play out. -

Not sure what you mean by that? Have you followed his career at all? Chuck was a late hire for us when KJ pulled the rug out from us. I think coach Mcclain was the lead on Morgan, April and maybe Priller too. Chuck was hired late and we were/are over signed at the time, yet he found/got Holt who is a nice 4yr player. Check the guys who have visited and who IU is in the mix for 2015/2016 . IMO we're lucky to have him. -

Yep I realize that any new hire will likely bring his own guys with him. I'm just speculating if the players [ especially if we land one of the recent 5 star visitors ] would stay if Crean leaves but a new coach retains Chuck to help with the transition, Coach Martin pulled Emmitt [sp] so late and now is able to get Bryant's and Thon's attention during a near total meltdown coaching wise has got to turn a new hire's head. -

I don't think that's correct. Well, sort of. As I read it they can delay loss of scholarships for a year if the financial agreements have already been made for those individual scholarships. Basically, committed prospects do not have to find another home. Things are different for Thomas Bryant You're correct Pap. Syracuse can only postpone for already signed prospects. Is Izzo helping his buddy TC by possibly holding Dawson out? Coach Martin is really impressing me. Strange days !

Your Avatar is apparently the Root of your posting problem . This may apply to April [Jeremiah] as well. [ Unfortunately for him ] •The institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for ONE academic year (two semesters or three quarters). -

Diadem replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Just some info regarding the April Signing Period Basketball (Regular Period) Starts April 15, 2015 Ends May 20, 2015 What is the National Letter of Intent (NLI)? The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution •A prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). •The institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). Basic penalty for not fulfilling the NLI agreement: A student-athlete has to serve one year in residence (full-time, two semesters or three quarters) at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports. -
