I'm with you in general. Stevens was a king in my eyes...I bet he LOVED coaching against Mike Davis. Mark Few sure seems clean as well. But seriously, who knows? None of us. That said, let's not forget Painter cheated on his wife with a former Purdue cheerleader leading to divorce. There is no perfect coach, I'm telling you. We all think we know but we don't. I don't know if I want to play the odds for 3 upstanding coaches and 25 who know how to win. Define our boundary and let's hire someone to win within those fences.

Apologies, this board is littered with men.
-
My man, I'm not justifying anything or anyone in the post. I'm saying people are flawed and we aren't going to find a perfect coach. We also looked past all of Knight's flaws because he won games. Lastly, a point that some are far worse than others, which is another point I was trying to make. No need to go to confession over it; there's no condoning of any behavior.

This is inaccurate.

This will not be a popular opinion, and I admittedly grew up a MONSTER Knight fan, but he was not a good dude. He was not exactly someone to model your life after. The dude was fired for more than just a video of choking/shoving someone by the neck. The way it went down; now that's a different story, and Brand is to blame for that. My point now that I've heated up all of us who love(d) Knight. I really loved him. I cried when he came back to IU a couple years ago. That said, he was a dictator, and a good one, and if you didn't follow his rules, it drove him to unmeasurable periods of aggression, verbal and physical. That's not justification for Beard because what happened there is simply bad and never ok. But come on...we've had coaches who love the bottle (a LOT). Coaches who text recruits too much. I mean we had a literal dum-dum after Knight. They're flawed humans, b,ut we all are. On a much worse side of the coin, Izzo and Czechowski have both covered-up rapes and the NCAA turned a blind eye. Those dudes are complete dirt bags. To boot, right now there's a literally an accused rapist playing games at Illinois waiting on a court date who turned himself in. I don't love any of this - it's awful and it makes me sad - but I am not in favor of looking for a priest to replace Woodson. We point the finger at Beard, and I'm sure he's a bad dude, but his characteristics and traits aren't that far off from the man who hung 3 banners in Assembly Hall and likely would have hung more if he weren't ousted. What the moral boundaries are, I don't know, but my point is most all of the coaches carry baggage and flaws. PS. Izzo is the worst.

Oh I didn't know he beat up on her. That's not cool at all. I thought it was a big loud fight at 4 AM. We don't need that type of human, agree with you there.

The guy who "knows" everything actually does know quite a bit and is pretty selfless. He has zero to gain and shares insight with a rabid fan base as a gesture of kindness. People attacking him when his sources are wrong need to find better things to do with their time. Would you rather have someone with an inside track or no one? Stevens was a thing until he wasn't. I also have sources who were close to this. Things fall apart - it is what it is.

I tend to agree with this. He does not appear to be a great person, or at least he has a wild temper with his wife according to the 911 call. That said, IU has a major ego problem. We're so self-righteous about our cleanliness, that we can't get out of our own way. Literally every other program in the country laughs at us for trying to present this crystal-clean public profile. Guess who is winning at recruiting, not getting in trouble and stacking up wins or banners year after year? KU, Duke, UNC, UCONN, UK, Baylor, Houston, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, MSU, Tennessee, etc. Give the self-righteous pride play a f'n rest and hire someone who knows how to win. I'm so sick of this. 25 years and we still can't figure it out. We want to win but we're not willing to sacrifice anything to there. The NCAA does not give a flying f*ck about cleanliness. They care about money. Get Buckner out of the way and make a Cignetti-type hire for basketball. You're welcome.

I agree with all of this other than I actually think he'll walk away. He does not look like he's enjoying this experience, and he certainly doesn't need the money. He wants IU to win and he isn't getting us there.

I asked our AI Chatbot through work to help us all with a path forward. Needless to say, the bot is ambitious: "Here are five successful current or former coaches who could be potential candidates depending on the timing of Mike Woodson's departure: Brad Stevens: Although he's currently coaching in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, Stevens has a successful history in college basketball with Butler University. He's long been linked with Indiana University due to his Indiana roots. Tony Bennett: He's currently the head coach at University of Virginia and led the Cavaliers to a NCAA Championship in 2019. His defensive-focused style might be appealing to Indiana. Mark Few: The longtime Gonzaga coach has turned the Bulldogs into a perennial powerhouse, reaching the NCAA tournament every year. He has proven success at developing an elite program. Jay Wright: The head coach of Villanova has proven his abilities many times over, winning two NCAA championships in the past few years. Billy Donovan: Having previously had great success at the University of Florida with two NCAA Championships, he's another coach with a strong track record; however, he's currently coaching in the NBA as well. Remember, these are just potential names and these coaches might not be interested or available when Indiana University is looking at potential replacements."

That's it?

7 years of consistent mental and discipline issues showing up in shooting percentages across the board....come on my man.
-
Explain free throws then.
-
Had a thought this morning after looking at the horrific box score. Outside of not feeling confident in what Woody does as a coach (separate topic), I think Clif Marshall might be a major issue as it relates to our shooting difficulties. They started and got really bad in the Archie era, both free throws and 3's. This "become as strong as a football player" technique is clearly impacting our shooting. Some, if not most, has to be attributed to the strength program. You don't just forget how to shoot when you come to IU. Something else happens. Or, I'm totally off.

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

Talk about a glass half-full post with zero speculation! You've been Hoosier-punished over the years, just like the rest of us. I can tell by your tone! -
(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

I'm actually a bit tired of Trilly. Tons of speculation, lots of swapping with funny GIFs at the last minute which overlay his previous comments. When this recruitment was shut down, it was immediately following Woody's visit. No mention of IU in his post....interesting take. Must be fun running a burner account so you don't have to take accountability for your guesses. -

Mgbako Arrested, Paying Small Fine for Misdemeanor
iu-dl replied to DoctorP's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think the MM arrest was very "Johnny Law Junior look at me with a badge and a gun and a GED". Who arrests a kid in a Taco Bell parking lot? An amped-up cop looking to put a notch in his belt, that's who. MM wasn't drinking, wasn't on drugs, ordered food, and didn't get it. On homecoming weekend. Give me a break...go find something better to do with your time than give out seat belt, jay walking and loitering tickets. I'm from a small Indiana town and our local-yokal cops pull crap like this all the time. They look for kids to bust and a basketball player is a prize. What a waste of time. I'd feel the same way if it were a Purdue player for what it's worth. -
(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland
iu-dl replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm applying way too much logic here: Long recruiting trail between Houston, IU and Maryland. Fast forward to this week: Queen nearing a decision. Woody visits. Queen sets announcement date. Houston is out. Maryland still has to visit but that was pre-scheduled. He has made his mind up, hence the announcement date. If he set his announcement date right after a Maryland coach/recruiting visit, we'd be in panic mode. Maryland is in hail mary territory here. He's ours and you can hang this post up on your bathroom walls to read anytime you want at a later date once he commits. Sincerely, preparing to have my heart ripped out, torn in half, burnt, stomped on then shoved back in my chest beating the IU fight song. -
(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky
iu-dl replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm more entertained by the conspiracy theories in this thread than I am by anything to do directly with Fland coming to IU. Reggie Jackson, corn husks, Trilly, you name it. I just re-read Catcher in the Rye, and if you read page 98 backward and while sitting upside-down, you can spell "Boogie Fland to IU on October twentieth two thousand twenty-three"...TWICE. -

Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker accused of sexually harassing rape survivor
iu-dl replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
To permit is to promote. This is on the NCAA and MSU for looking the other way for years. The administration should have been torn down from the top when Nasser happened. MSU is dirty across the board, including golden boy Izzo. -
Very true as I am lazy.

Late to the game here due to a family vacation, but what a punishment to end up on LeBron's team. That narcissist squeezes coaches and players out of organizations on the regular. No one is as superior as the self proclaimed king, let it be known. No way JHS finds a way to shine in LA as long as LeBron is there. Who wants to guess my opinion and feelins on LeBron James?
