511-265 394-291 which of those records would you prefer? Which of those records says better team? I am not arguing history. But recent history? it isnt close.
-
outside of some ranked matchups at assembly, the most electric basketball arena I have ever been to. That place is special, just unknown.
-
Around the last time we even made the tournament.
-
I have tried. No one wants to hear reality. Which I understand. Arkansas doesn't scream basketball, until you actually go there. I imagine it is how most people under 40 view our job.
-
Theyve been to the tournament like 19 out of the last 21 years. FF, couple EE. Crean's two SS being the only real outlier of "recent tourney success"
-
It is right now. IU has the higher ceiling, but right now they are even at best.

To be fair the two leading candidates for leader of the free world were 74 and 78. I have a hard time believing that 68 is too old to start something new. The ageism on here makes no sense. Now if you want to argue the semantics of his 'thugs' comment, that is a valid reason to forgo an offer. Of all the people mentioned for this job, I could make a pretty strong argument that Belien is far and away the best actual Coach on the list, and it really isn't that close from a resume standpoint. Not that I want him, just making a counterpoint. Would 6-10 really good years of Belien really not be intriguing to you because it couldn't parlay into 20 or 30 years because of his age? I am looking for someone who could coach up, recruit good players and win games, and restore the shine to this job. I believe that is the most important thing for the next hire. It does not necessarily need to be a IU lifer, but it needs to be someone who can win, and make this place desirable again. We can as fans, rose color the job all we want, but the reality, is there have been six (counting DD) consecutive coaches fired. Not moved on, not retired, not lost to the NBA, fired. If I am a high major coach on the come up, I am thinking long and hard before I consider a career move that history says will end in me being fired. That is why a hire like Matta or Belien made/makes sense.

In reference to the guys in the transfer portal, everyone needs to take a step back from the ledge. COVID gave everyone an extra season, this year's transfer season was always going to be wild, coaching carousel not included. Further, I am fairly certain guys like KL, RT and AF would have entered the portal regardless. I have a feeling the roster bleed may have been worse had we kept Archie. Go back and watch the games, outside of the occasional three ball from Aljami or dunk from TJD the players look miserable. I made a point to pay close attention to body language when engaging with Archie, and it was clear they pretty much all were sick of/tuned him out. TL:DR: a bunch of dudes would have entered the portal if Archie wasn't fired, there will be transfer options for people we lose.

It was me, and yes while following flights on flight aware could I suppose give something away, it’s highly unlikely. Filed flight plans in the general aviation world mean nothing. I could call a flight service station right now and file a flight plan from Or to Btown from anywhere, never show and no one would say anything. Unless kept active by the local tower the flight plan simply falls out 2 hours after the original departure time. Also, if you have the money and want the privacy, and own the aircraft, you can pay to have the tail number and flight plans hidden from public view. If IU owns their own aircraft or has been borrowing one from a billionaire donor, 100% its flight data is hidden. Mark Cuban type people don’t fly on their jets and publicly file for joe blow on flight aware to see. Just FWIW.

Exactly this. I guess I wasn’t clear enough. I have almost no connections in college but Arkansas happens to be one of them. I asked point blank, response from a close family friend and UA booster: “unless he has some weird fetish for IU, the Muss Bus is parked. We will match any offer, unless y’all go fully delusional and try to give him K or Cal money, in which case, good luck. Remember, we have dusty banners too.” Muss is not realistic, unless as I said in my first post he has some connection or affinity for IU that’s not common knowledge. Which certainly could be possible and I would love.
-
I didn't mean it in the sense of Dolson demanding an IU cat be hired. It is pretty common for guys to staff out a new location with local coaching talent, particularly for recruiting. It would stand to reason if Altman was actually interested, he would have no problem reaching out to some IU people to fill the staff. I was more concerned of whether or not it was simply a raise grab for him, or someone might have some insights to show he really is interested.
-
Does anyone think the Altman rumor of being interested is remotely based in reality? Full disclosure, I knew very little about him, but after some research that would be a no brainer. He has gotten better and better since he started coaching, and his worst season at Oregon, his first, they still won the CBI. Now say what you will about the CBI, but getting a high major team up for a tournament like that regardless of opponent to me, is a sure sign of a good coach and motivator. His last 8 seasons have been as good as basically any coach in the country. I get we are being ageist now, but he isn't that old, and has some midwestern ties. Grab a coach like that, and staff it out with some "IU" guys and I think we are really making moves.
-
Comment on Muss, I have some close friends that are connected in the Arkansas AD. I have been to Walton Arena (known locally as the basketball palace of Mid-America) several times, and I can say pretty definitely he is NOT an option. As much as I would like to have him, his family loves Fayetteville, the fan base is amazing and the facilities are top notch. We can't outbid Arky either. Even in Arkansas circles it is thought he may be just there for a few years and is looking for NBA head man status. Look at his coaching record, he is, in a word, transient. Any move here would probably be in a similar vein. Think any chance of him is DOA, unless he has some history with Indiana I don't know of. Just FWIW.

Totally agree, I am just trying to look on the bright side (however small it is).

Whether or not the only reason AM got fired was because he thought he had BS wrapped up, it needed to happen. It was entirely not an "IU athletics department" type of move, particularly with the "COVID" season. Keeping him for a lame duck season, justifying with the aforementioned C-19 excuse and lowering the buyout would have been soooo on brand for us. Glass would have, I think no matter the noise kept him. That said, we need to keep an eye on the ends-- another season of Archie just to fire him for 3.1mm on 1 April 22 would have crippled the next couple years of recruiting and probably have gutted the roster for next season. If you don't think the lack of transfers so far is telling, I do not know what to say. The players clearly have faith in Dolson, whatever that direction is, and until proven otherwise, we should too. Starting to run someone out of town before they have been hired is why our fan base gets dragged in the media. Some of these posts boggle the mind, people are upset a couple HOFers are on the short list. Everyone wants RMK 2.0 but then doesn't want a small school guy. We are all salty about BS, but another season of Archieball would have been worse than missing on Stevens. IMO. Apologies for the rant.

Welp. That stinks. I am glad we made him say no, I don’t think Glass even tried more than a phone call last time. I still believe Dolson is committed to getting the best possible coach. Now, no more Brad talk ever, let’s get someone who wants to be here. This isn’t the death knell of IU basketball, just a blip. Cheers mates. -

The national guys are saying the same things when UM fans were believing Harbaugh would leave SF for UM. Full disclosure, spent most of my life on either side of the border in Michiana, and follow UM football pretty closely and the forums and blogs therein. I can tell you 100% this is exactly the same. It is so similar it is eerie, insiders on blogs, smoke and fire, all the while all the national cats screeching no way he leaves the super amazing NFL for a college job. I remain pretty optimistic we are seeing the same thing unfold. -

Okay, I see a lot of confusion about flights and flights changing. Let me try and give some perspective from the industry. Don’t get too hung up on what you see on flight aware or other various sites. Remember the entire point of private air travel is it is designed on your schedule. Don’t think of a “1000” departure as the end all. It’s merely a place holder flight plan. The data you see on those websites is merely what the pilot or pilots company has filed through the local ARTCC or Tower then added to the FAA and FIDS system. It means nothing. A private flight is strictly at the whim of the client. They change times/days/airports continually. BS could literally say, Scott, at 10am on Thursday I take a real long dump, that time won’t work, and “poof” the flight has changed. Also, just FYI for that particular aircraft and again why people fly private- weather short of a very severe thunderstorm at the moment of taxi isn’t holding or changing the flight. If it moved or moved days it’s because the client wasn’t ready. Full stop. -

Just to temper the speculation, I agree that exact aircraft going to bloomington is quite odd, but all the other stops very likely are not related to the flight tomorrow or BS/IU. Think of this company like a taxi service for the rich. It all depends on what the customer wants (they have a bunch of different airframes), where the aircraft is, has it been booked, up to date on inspections, available pilot etc. Chances are most of the other flights you see have nothing to do with the one tomorrow, just FWIW. -

Honest answer? The monroe county airport and its runways are a pile. Also, this provides some cover for internet sleuths trying to figure it out. Honestly, and this is strictly because I work in this industry, you don't fly a VIP like BS in an Embraer Phantom to monroe county. Plus, the tournament is in Indy, his family, etc. There are lots of reasons. The indy reliever airport is nice. -

Long time lurker here, i manage airports for a living. There is a single flight from the Boston reliever airport in bedford (GA overflow), to Indy reliever tomorrow at 10, 1240 arrival. It is a a company that is used often by sports VIPs and wealthy who are not the type of rich that can afford to own a jet. Skeptical yes, but a random flight to the Indy reliever, when no other flights from Boston to Indiana exist, is at the least, intriguing. Come on home BS. There is your random flight update.
