Yea considering that dude ran off our only consistent source of information out of sheer frustration, I imagine it will slow down unless @Chris007 decides to reengage. Which I hope he does, but understand why he wouldn’t bother. He doesn’t gain anything by sharing info he gets, he’s just being kind to a bunch of desperate internet friends and fellow IUBB fanatics. -

I have a hard time believing the AD would have wanted that. It went over really bad for the most part. Being that arrogant after beating a bunch of bad teams wasn’t a good look. -

We agree my man. I was merely pointing out that it’s more the coaching than the players he’s playing with. There is enough talent that this should be a tournament team. -

This is true to an extent, but Cupps isn’t exactly playing with scrubs either. His center is a likely lottery pick. We were in every mock bracket to start the season until we got nuked by Auburn and UCONN -
Another dumb question…Do we expect the main targets to enter the portal immediately? Is there any benefit to a high value transfer waiting for some dust to settle before announcing their intent?

All this rabble will come to a head pretty quick next season. Battle for Atlantis has Arizona, Creighton, Oklahoma, WVU, Gonzaga and Davidson. Be shocked if the TV people don’t match us with Arizona or Gonzaga early for the eyeballs. Another national television waxing by Arizona would be unenjoyable. -

Feels like we have to. We are already getting clowned for having no recruits, IU is not in any position to turn down the NIT unless as you said we don’t have the bodies. -

Dalton Knecht was taking his visits on a compressed timeline. He visited Oregon on April 10th, Woody had elective surgery on the 11th, he visited Tennessee along with our other target Ledlum on the 13th. Woody had some complications and was in the hospital longer than he should have been he said this at Huber’s in June. This was not a secret my dude. Deflect, gaslight, repeat. I knew you wouldn’t answer when I asked the question -

You missed the point. The point was pretty much every person I’ve interacted with that either has or doesn’t have IU connections thinks Woody needs to go. For example, NO ONE I talked to outside the fan base thought we should fire Crean. Most thought we were insane. We were the only ones carrying the torch, and nationally the media also thought we were insane, and maybe we were— but no one is defending Woody like that. -

Please, tell us what really happened. Because the knee surgery and not knowing Loves name was pretty widely known when it happened. Enlighten us as to why we either said no or they said no and we left a scholarship open. And don’t say fear of Gallo and X. Provide actual factual information of why. Not vague statements. Facts. -

We needed guards last year and got none. We literally left a scholarship open because we couldn’t land a guard or didn’t want to— reason doesn’t matter. Players aren’t dumb and they talk. And all they have to do is listen (inside-out comment). I wouldn’t be shocked at all if we land a starter level center and play with two bigs again and MM out of position if he stays. Folks saying otherwise are choosing to ignore facts to fit their narrative. -

Love was a huge miss, that was exactly the type of player we should have overpaid for. He’s having his best statistical season. Yes, he can get a little wild with the heat check, but he’s averaging 19/5/4/1 on 43/87/35 shooting splits. We are a tournament team with a player like Love. Edit: and those splits are on huge usage. -

Purdue is 28-3 and won the B1G by three games and will probably walk away with the BTT championship again. I take joy in their March futility, but I would take the above over this yesterday. I was 2 the last time we won it all. The banners are dusty. They mean nothing to me on a personal level. I have no emotional connection to them. I do to the B1G championship teams under Crean. That was a lot more fun than whatever this trainwreck is. -

I get what you are saying, but it certainly doesn’t look like the under the radar grad transfers is going to be the route. I just have huge concerns on the players we will actually get. High level and want to win? It’s not like the other big boys with established winning culture are broke lol go get paid and win big. Guys with Indiana then. We overpay players that shouldn’t sniff the floor (Sparks). Or…. Where this is headed: guys solely interested in maximizing their earning power. Whether that means good players bad players bench players we are going to overpay for dudes chasing dollar signs. We are probably going to have the most expensive roster in CBB. It is embarrassing that this is what Indiana Basketball has devolved into. -

Luckily combo guards and wings that can shoot the three aren’t traditionally coveted by every team in the offseason. This should be easy peasy. -

The pro-woody crowd is acting like we are the only team that is a logical option for the best players and conveniently ignoring the fact that good teams will be filling holes while also having a roster of HS recruits. Also acting like cash money records is the end all be all. It certainly wasn’t for Liam, Queen, Boogie, Love, Timberlake, Ledlum, or knecht. We had huge guard minutes and money to give away last year, and they all said no. And I am supposed to believe they were afraid of X and Gallo? absolute nonsense. This is going to be a disaster. I was talking myself into maybe being a tournament team with Liam. Without? Bleak. -

It’s possible I guess, but it’s definitely not six figures. Maybe a couple grand walking around money. It isn’t a bottomless pit. It would also have to be funded by bag men or true fans, because coaches still can’t. Unrelated but there are already rumblings that the model isn’t sustainable from the people making big donations to NIL. Which makes sense. If I was a billionaire I might be willing to fund a turn around, but year over year? It’s a terrible investment. And in my experience with rich people, they generally don’t continue doing that with poor ROI. that’s why I think this comes to a head fairly soon. Even the Simons and Cooks are expecting ROI— in this case, winning. Nick Saban more or less said he retired because after the Rose Bowl his players wanted to know 2 things to stay, how much money am I going to make, and how much am I going to play. It’s going to be a wild few years once the CFP expands next year. -

It’s never been “required” it just depended on the schools willingness to shoot themselves in the foot if caught. The entire UNC paper class scandal happened before NIL was even a thing. UNC lawyered up, told the NCAA to prove it, they couldn’t of course, and nothing happened. Same things happened with payments at Arizona, LsU, Kansas et al. And some of those had wire fraud issues with the FBI. Can the NCAA do anything about people fired and convicted of wire fraud? Not without the cooperation of the institution. This is why we should have known we were not serious about winning when we self reported too many text messages. And now we are here, and the guy we reported won the Big 12 his first season in it at a former mid major lol. But now all the people who pearl clutch over Sampson are okay with literally buying a roster. It’s laughable. -

Exactly. Football feeds the entirety and is protected, remove it and its money and lots are screwed. It is my opinion why we (a school that’s never showed any interest in being good at football) paid the largest buyout in B1G history and the 6th highest in history per 24:7. For reference, Texas paid 15.4 to buyout Tom Herman (7th) and LSU paid Orgeron (who won a natty!!) 16.9 (5th). That doesn’t happen in a vacuum unless IU is seeing the writing on the wall and understands being the lovable loser of the B1G isn’t going to guarantee a seat at the big boy table and the checks that come with it. Football is driving everything. NIL is simply a stop gap in the bigger picture. -

@Chris007 answered this. The numbers were minimum potential deals to get an OV, not to actually visit. OVs benefit the school even if you don’t get the player, the visibility this year of having multiple 5* guys OV was great for IU until we didn’t land any. A guy like Ware has people helping set a minimum value. Thats more what it meant. Don’t have 500k if I were to commit? Not visiting. -

The law only states that it has to be “proportional”. The vast majority of scholarships are not revenue sports. I should have said “Olympic sports”. The big four will survive in my opinion for both genders, sans football obviously. Football, basketball, hockey, baseball/softball and soccer. But that’s before you get into the weeds about scholarships in general. If football breaks from the NcAA they would not be subject to title 9 because, presumably, there would no longer be scholarships as we understand them— that removes title 9 protection for 90-100 women depending on how many scholarships the football team accounts for as they would be “professional” organizations, operating under the license of the school. I am by no means an expert, it’s just my general dumba** understanding. -

I support the players getting compensated for their labor. Only sports had ridiculous rules set forth on the players by an outside entity. A student on a full music scholarship can gig and make money, before congress stepped in, players couldn’t get a free cheeseburger. That said, this is entirely the fault of the NcAA fighting to maintain their stranglehold on profits under the farcical guise of “amateurism”. Football is going to kill the NCAA and probably major conferences. When the 75 or so best football teams break off, the NCAA will only have the men’s basketball tournament as their cash cow. We are 100% barreling towards a salary cap, but that can only exist with collective bargaining and players unionizing. We got here because the Universities were greedy but didn’t wanna be the bad guy, the NCAA was also greedy and didn’t mind being the bad guy— at the expense of student athletes.. I hate the idea of buying a team, there has to be some contracts, restrictions on transfers, etc. But that can’t happen until the players have someone to negotiate with. They tried with the NCAA, the NCAA stayed the course, got sued and rightly got shot into the sun by SCOTUS. There may not be a more tone deaf organization than the NCAA. This will kill lots of non revenue sports and it is entirely the fault of the NCAA standing by their archaic practices— for maximum profit. Sorry for the rant lol, I hate the NCAA.
