I think a lot of people myself included just believe that if we get to a point where Collins or Brownell are serious contenders, why not just take the chance on lightning in a bottle with McCollum. Worst case either way we do this again in four years. It's why I would prefer Cronin, just proven stability. Brownell or Collins do not provide that kind of guarantee. If we cannot hire someone who is, why not take a shot on someone winning 80% of their games. For Dolson, a gamble on Brownell or Collins being exactly what they have been at the high major level and him getting fired seem just as good as McCollum being crazy good and Dolson getting a lifetime contract. There's also a metric ****-ton of plausible deniability if any of those three actually got hired. It's a zero risk assumption, he doesn't look like an idiot for that if he ends up incorrect. It is simply "I am as shocked as everyone else across the landscape that IU landed X,Y, or Z" because it would be massive earth shaking news in CBB, and across the NBA too if it was BS. He can just fall in with all the other media types who all thought none of those were ever realistic. I am in no way saying I think any of that actually happens, but this is not some crazy sourced leak of information saying BS, SD and TJO are out lol

Brownell is not out of the running in the same way Beard is not out of the running. They want the job and haven't said no. Means nothing at this point in the search. Could it be either of them? Sure. Likely is not, we are going to hear a bunch more agent driven nonsense before this over. It really has not even started yet since we are obviously targeting sitting head coaches who are still playing basketball. I don't expect anything concrete until after conference tourneys at the absolute earliest, and only if we are gonna hire a cat not in the NCAAs.

Care to elaborate on your confidence? Or is this just based on vibes in the great beyond?

Let that hot taek fly homie.

Goodman is definitely sourced. How well? Who knows, he was not on Cignetti at all as I recall. That said, other than shitposting and it being fun to talk about, anyone being rational knows those three were a long shot at best. The tweet is basically saying water is wet. It stinks to have a "journalist" saying it definitively on the record, but does not really move the needle that much for me. Also, and this is unrelated, we have talked alot about "winning the press conference." I don't think anyone would have looked at Cignetti as a huge "win the press conference" hire (maybe for us he was I guess, but I digress), until Cignetti won the f***** press conference. So I have faith in Dolson.... Unless he hires Brownell or Turgeon lol

this was like an hour before Goodman. Tony is going to National Treasure the clues until someone figures out whats going on.

I think they love us. I don't think its hate at all, we are an easy mark. Highly engaged fanbase driving clicks. The last thing they want is IU to be stable. The general disfunction around the program has been a boon for all of them, they want it to stay that way.

Mark Few come on down. Time to see if you can hack it in an actual conference. Or give me McCasland and lets go.

Cue up Cashy with some with news of groundswell muddling the process behind the scenes lol. I am fairly certain he is 100% gone, but the comments "thought 21 wins was enough" and "maybe I left too soon" are certainly eyebrow raising. Ultimately I think it is just Woody being Woody, but I don't think its crazy to wonder what happens if he does something silly like win the BTT and make a run to the EE.

Won't find anything out until the season is over? I am way too dumb for the Tony's -isms

@UspshoosierThink we are in today with a loss and one BTT win and/or loss/loss or do we have to have one more to be safe? Guessing win today and BTT doesnt matter much? Curious as to your thoughts. I think we get the W today. -
Some people just don't believe in the sanctity of amateur athletics anymore. Sad.

I'm guessing year round tampering is just status quo at this point. Seems strange that would be "allowed" not that the NCAA probably has any interest in getting in free market pissing match with players, agents, and collectives.

The problem is the odds are even or even better they completely flop. Whether IU can risk that again when there are conceivably options more guaranteed to provide stability with potentially unknown or lower ceiling is what Dolson is going to have to weigh.
-
Really good points. I will say the more I have chewed on it/watched Drake play, if we do end up having to take a swing, might as well swing for the fences. I would expect Dolson to surround him with the experience he would need to handle the infrastructure that comes along with a behemoth like IU. Archie soured everyone on mid major types so I get the hesitancy (I have it too), but this guy just flat wins. Ultimately in this era of roster building, and the immediate success we have witnessed at UM, UK and UL I think anyone who comes in will be expected to win pretty quick. Maybe not win huge, but the tournament with as weak as the bubbles are now should be a given playing as many Q1 games as we do in the B1G.

I'm not sure I would call Ole Miss an elite level job beyond being P5, they really didn't have anything to lose by hiring him. That was a soft landing spot "second chance" and probably the best he could have hoped for. I don't think you can put it in the same stratosphere with the resources, expectations, and visibility of IU. It most certainly would be on his mind he could not afford another public mishap and probably is even now at Ole Miss. I could be wrong of course, he may not care at all or be the slightest bit worried about rehabbing his career a second time but I would find that pretty surprising.

I have tried to find some middle ground on Beard which has mostly been ignored by the pro crowd, but two things stick out for me this being the big one. Now, I am not convinced IU is particularly special to him beyond some affinity for RMK, and I think he just wants another shot at the mountain top. That said, I do think he would stay as long as IU would have him which is a good thing, and not having to beg someone like BS or SD or TJO to come save IU from basketball mediocrity means something to me. In a vacuum it probably speaks to all of us who still believe IU basketball is special, and a place coaches should be crawling to (whether or not this is still true). I agree with you I think he would feel a debt to IU that could only be repaid by success and keeping his nose clean. That's not nothing. The second, and this is where I would have to trust Dolson and Beard's sense of self preservation is that he would never get another shot at a marquee (maybe any P5) job if he messed this one up. I would be surprised if he made another mistake (not relitigating it, it was a mistake no matter what anyone believes actually happened). Now whether Dolson and company are willing to risk their careers on the potential of him imploding under the stress I have no idea. My sense is they would not unless we got turned down by several people, but I as I have stated at this point I am willing to trust Dolson despite my personal misgivings. Cheers.

He makes the tourney and a run to the sweet sixteen or better his days as Drake head coach will be numbered and quick.

Pretty sure he’s the dude that went nuclear from 3 to help FSU beat Duke enroute to an ACC tourney championship. 2012ish maybe? I’m sure the Post Office can correct that, but I recognized his odd name lol
