Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?

He's good at more than just transition. Here is where his teams have ranked nationally in offensive rebounding percentage:   2014: 23rd 2013: 7th 2012: 59th 2011: 181st 2010: 89th 2009: 179th 2008: 23rd 2007: 19th 2006: 142nd 2005: 12th 2004: 30th 2003: 6th   Outside of his first three years at IU, I think you will be hard pressed to find a coach that has teams ranked that high consistently. As much as his dribble drive like offense tends to offend Hoosier senses, it is a large part of the reason for the high offensive rebounding rates. I am very confident in saying that because outside of this year with an excellent natural rebounder in Noah, Crean's teams have never been anywhere near the top in defensive rebounding. Until this year, he'd never had a team in the top 100 in defensive rebounding percentage.   Crean might not be the greatest offensive coach on the planet, but his system does work to generate extra possessions. It's more than just a good in transition system.

Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?

Define "good coach." Crean is good at some things like offensive rebounding. He's not so good at others like turnovers. I'd say that Crean is a very good coach on offense, but a mediocre coach on defense. Overall, I think he's good. I don't think he's great or even quite good enough to get us where we want to go. But, if you say he's not a good coach, your arguments against him tend to fall on deaf ears because of the exaggeration.
  4. Losing to UK is just another loss? Some Louisville fans are not going to like that at all.   It is a good reminder for us though that the rivalries are far more important to fans than they are to players in this era.

    UK sucks

They get more advanced recruits, not projects.
  6. What does Cody have to do with it? Noah was projected one and done because sit was considered a deeper than normal draft class. We all knew this when he committed to IU.
  7.   Deep draft class. Noah was always projected to be one and done. Crean had nothing to do with that.

Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?

"Steve, God is not going to provide any leadership on this team. He couldn't care less if we win or not. He is not going to parachute in through the roof of this building and score when we need points....let me ask you this. Do you really think that God is going to help a team that I'm coaching?"   "The Methodists control God and they're not going to let us use him."   --Some IU coach not on a mission from God.

Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?

No there is not any real heat. His chair has been doused with lighter fluid, but no one has lit the match yet.

Who would you hire to replace CTC?

Saying Crews has been successful is definitely stretching things. He's also had three head coaching jobs. His winning percentage at Evansville was a pedestrian .584. In 17 seasons, he made the NCAA Tournament 4 times, never getting past the second round. At Army, he had a winning percentage of .296. In 7 seasons he never even managed to finish with a .500 record. He's doing very well with an already good team that he inherited from Rick Majerus at Saint Louis. His history does not suggest that he will be able to sustain it when Majerus' guys leave.   Mike Lightfoot is an NAIA coach. Not even worth discussing.   As for needing a coach from Indiana. Where was Bob Knight from when he was hired? I forget.

The hits just keep on coming.

    NCAA tournament thread

Well according to kenpom, Scott Drew is one of the best second-half coaches. Soooo......comeback?
  14. FWIW, I have seen nothing on Kansas boards that they are involved. Nothing. I told them. They don't think they need him. They are rather stacked in the post. I have a feeling that this is Lee's people putting something out there for reasons of their own. See, Crean's tweets on handlers. Kansas might have mild interest if other things happen. But, even with Embiid going pro, they still have Alexander, Ellis, Traylor and Lucas in the post next season. They are in the lead for Turner. If Lee wants to be the guy, he'll look elsewhere.

    Basketball4u? Are u safe?

Tom Crean denies all knowledge of Basketball4u's disappearance. However, police have asked Crean to come in for questioning after this picture allegedly taken in Bloomington this morning surfaced on the Internet.
  16. Do you think that over the years free throw shooting has gotten worse in college basketball? It sure seems like it to me. However, I am wrong and so are you if that is what you thought.       http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/this_was_the_best_year_in_history_for_free_throw_shooting
  17. Do we really want him reading everything that we discuss on here about our coach and team? He might have already seen it, but no need to bring it to his attention. We want him to come to IU.
  18. Didn't Wilt shoot underhanded? I bet no one told him to his face that he looked like a loser.

Who would you hire to replace CTC?

Fortunately for 41, I doubt the Alford loving crowd reads Pomeroy's blog. http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/whos_the_best_in_game_coach

    OT: AJ Hammons

Should be an EPIC battle between Purdue and Rutgers for last place next season.

    OT, Calbert to IUPUI?

Yeah, but that's only if he can get the recruits to turn IUPUI around. That won't be the easiest thing in the world to do.

    Coach Johnson takes to Twitter

Thanks. I couldn't remember his name for some reason. I should have since Hammel is still Knight's ghostwriter.   BTW, this is a great book by Hammel that all Indiana fans should read: http://www.amazon.com/PERFECT-Indianas-basketballs-unbeaten-champion-ebook/dp/B004U7EY38/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1395939637&sr=1-11&keywords=indiana+basketball

    Vonleh Talks About NBA Choice

I can somewhat agree, but I don't think it was just a Crean issue. Noah was not great at posting up and presenting a target. His timing was off with his teammates on when and where to post. Noah was terrible about recognizing double teams and knowing who to pass the ball to.   I think it would have been great if we had used Noah in the post more, but some of the reasons that didn't happen are on Noah.

    Coach Johnson takes to Twitter

It wasn't so much that. The guy was part of the inner circle. He was more or less the official media voice for Knight. They were very good friends. It would be like the president being best friends with a White House reporter. The reporter isn't going to say anything that his friend doesn't want out there.
