I can't believe I'm doing this, but Cal and Kentucky just do what everyone else is doing. They just happen to be better at it. Crean would be thrilled to get all the one and dones that he could get. Almost by definition, these are players who have no real interest in school. They are just there because of the NBA's policy. Crean tries to recruit them. If he does land one, is he going to force the player to take honors classes if the player doesn't want to? I doubt it, not when the player can get by with taking a bunch of easy intro courses for a couple of semesters. Cal just has more success recruiting those players than anyone else. Maybe that is because UK is better with the cash payments than other schools. I don't really know. When it comes getting an education for student-athletes, they aren't any different than what anyone else would do. Coaches get paid to win at this level. All they have to do is make sure that players attend class during the fall semester and get at least mediocre grades. It's what they all do. Now that my first post here in a long time is a defense of Cal and Kentucky, I need a shower. Got to get this slime off me.

Well, that was a fun day of waiting for nothing. Truly thrilling. Perhaps in the future those who think they know something will keep their mouths shut until they actually do know something. Just a suggestion that I'm sure will fall on deaf ears.

Different people would have different reactions under different circumstances. Personally, I'm not upset that our players drink. I'm not upset that they smoke pot. They're in college. That's what college kids do. I am upset about the timing of when they choose to engage in these activities. I am upset that they either have so little fear of the consequences of their actions that they flaunt their bad decisions or they just aren't smart enough to not get caught. And, yes, it doesn't make it any better that they are coming off a terrible season because their actions make it appear publicly that they aren't all that concerned about the bad basketball we saw last season. We basically ask two things out of Indiana basketball players: 1) Represent the university, the fans, the alumni, the students and the state well. 2) Win basketball games. Right now, there is failure on both counts. There is someone who is being paid a lot of money to be in charge to make sure those two things are done. He's not doing the job right now.

Crean is a good man. Unfortunately, he's not a good leader of young men. He's simply failed to instill the values of hard work and discipline in his current charges. He's even failed to get them to at the very least be smart enough to try to get away with screwing off. Would firing Crean hurt us in recruiting? I don't know. Does keeping him help us get the kind of players who can win more banners. Imagine you are the parent of a young man. You've raised him to work hard. You've raised him to keep his nose clean and stay out of trouble. You want your son to go to school, do himself proud on the basketball court and get an education. Tom Crean sits down at your kitchen table to talk about your son going to play ball for IU. What would you say to him about that right now? I know what Zeke's momma would have said.

Solution to what? Figuring out how to make the NIT?

All due respect to any players' friends and family members that read the board, some of these players can go and be sure to not let the door hit them in the backside on the way out. Some of these players would already be gone if Branch or Bobby were still coaching. If any players want to be about themselves and partying more than they want to be about Indiana basketball and the team, they can go. By all means, they can go. They are not wanted. Their attitude is not what led to the banners and its an attitude that will never lead to hanging more banners.

I'm sick. Sick to death of this pissing on the legacy that Everett, Branch and Bobby built. I was all set to just relax and try to enjoy this year for what it will be on the court, a rebuilding year where we just hope to see some improvement. But, this garbage is just too much. Being a Hoosier is a matter of pride. Win or lose on the court, every single alumnus could always feel good that the team didn't cut corners. Things were done the right way. Winning wasn't everything. Winning was the inevitable byproduct of hard work and doing things the Indiana way. Sampson took that all away from us. Tom Crean promised to bring it back. He failed. Heads should be rolling. If Fred Glass doesn't want to lead Crean to the guillotine, Fred can join Tom on the chopping block.

Haven't posted in a long while. Just want to say two things: 1) I hope Coach Crean has a long think about team discipline and how to handle it. 2) Much more importantly, I really hope for the best for Devin and his family.

  Although they have a common origin, football is not rugby. Before modern helmets, approximately 20 people died from head injuries every year playing football. That was in the late '60s. With players being so much bigger and stronger today, you could increase the number of yearly deaths quite a bit without helmets. And these weren't slow death concussion type injuries.   Get it right. It was THE BEST FARM SYSTEM EVER!!!!!!!!!   My Royals just have an amazing ability to completely screw up the swings of power hitters. I'm guessing the Cubs won't have the same player development issues as the Royals. As the Cubs also have a competent GM and money, they should have a much easier time filling in the holes that the farm system isn't able to.   If the Cubbies current farm system can produce the same amount of talent as the Royals has since that announcement, they'll be in great shape. Any team in baseball would kill to have that collection of young talent. It takes a Royal level of incompetency to screw it up and even then the major league team is in the best shape it's been since the strike two decades ago.   So, anyone, congrats to Kyle. It sounds like he's landed in a great situation. And, congrats to Sam too.

  The problem with calling it mediocre, to the extent that there is a problem, is that it makes it seem like we don't expect very much. If we barely squeak into the NIT next season, I doubt most people would consider that a good season. But, when you say that a season when we did not make the NIT is mediocre, it makes it appear that an NIT berth would be what we at IU think is a good season.   That doesn't make you a Crean apologist. You just misspoke. It's cool.

  Many KU fans are estatic that Tharpe is considering transferring and it has nothing to do with that picture. They were hoping the picture would get Tharpe thrown off the team because they wanted him gone before it came out.   Tharpe's a guy who has all the tools, but he's incredibly inconsistent and has a ten cent head. He also plays matador defense.

Next season will be a success if no team member is arrested.

No one is outraged about the drinking. Being stupid enough to think that as a starter on the basketball team you could get away with using a fake ID during Little 5 week than lying about the incident is what people are dumbfounded over.

Doing something stupid is one thing. Lying to the press about it is another. Time for Doc Libby to dust the spanking paddle off.
