I agree about Central Ave. in St. Pete. While I am a beach bum and a walk in a park kind of guy, Central Ave. has a great choice of tapas, cafes, counter cultural digs, murals, street people, and entertainment. After getting cooked at the beach there is not a lot better than a bunch of tapas, some wine or beer, and friends. Would consider a couple of months within easy bike ride or walk to a beach or on a channel with a boat.

I can't grip a club like I once could. Still have my sticks. Never was any good. But loved the game. My foursome scattered. One has knee replacements. Two are out of state. Friends and good times and beautifully landscaped grounds are a great pleasure. Learned to play at Audubon State Park course in Henderson KY. Every time I hit into the woods, I would find 4 or 5 golf balls. Told the starter that. He said people do not go into the woods because of the copperheads. Was on Old Oakland Golf Course in east Indy, and was amazed at the size and athletic ability of two gentlemen in the following twosome. They absolutely filled that golf cart. Clark Kellog and George McGinnis could hit their drives three times as far as I could into the woods. Amazing. Great courses all over...Shaker Run north of Cincy; Blue Ash may be the nicest muni course; NCR; Indy CC; too numerous to count. One interesting tidbit...the Water Department diverts river water into ponds to recharge the aquifer. Then uses lots of wells to supply 1/2 a million users. Two muni golf courses were over one wellfield. The well field supervisor, the golf course manager, and I sited 30 ponds around those courses. Tightened those courses and made it interesting. Ever play at Kittyhawk? The City of Dayton just closed them for a number of reasons.

Josh, be wary when anyone says 'swampland'. But good luck. I had a 'dual agent' representing me for a while in southwestern Florida. Asked my attorney how that guy could sleep at night. My lawyer said he lies on one side, turns and lies on the other. Was very interested in this two-story house. There was one story before the offer and another story afterwards. Thank you. You're a great audience. Will be here the whole season. Try the veal.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
Dave from Dayton replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I am very interested in IU men's basketball regaining competitiveness at the top of the B1G and the NCAAT. Having said that, I wonder if IU basketball coaches are getting tripped up by the Student-Athlete Bill of Rights. Specifically: . A four-year scholarship commitment regardless of injury, illness or athletic performance. In other words, a coach can't take away scholarships if players aren't good enough or are injured. Glass seemed to emphasize to Archie Miller that churning athletes was not going to happen at IU. I do like the image that the administration seems to be giving our current coaches more support. But is there a divergence of goals and policy here? Has the Bill of Rights been put on the back burner? Support the athletes. And support IU basketball resurgence. Can we have both? -
2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
Dave from Dayton replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
LDL could mean a lot of things. One that I have heard is...let's discuss live. LDL could also mean Little Dog Laughed. It is a play that skewers the entertainment industry and happy endings the way they 'should' be. To me that means something like someone is motivated differently than others may think. In other words, I have no idea what it means to Dexter Dennis. -
(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA
Dave from Dayton replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good post, thanks. One point that is still crystal clear, setting the Waybac Machine to 1977: that national championship team that went undefeated...refused to lose. They did everything they could to win and help their teammates excel. -
Clearly Archie Miller was the wrong guy to coach Indiana at that time. But I do believe that he was hampered by the IU administration in a lot he could do. First, IU made it clear that the PG he had recruited for Dayton could not be given a scholarship at IU. Second, he must recruit inside of Indiana, so he did. Does anyone think that recruiting outside of the state suffered? Maybe this was because the IU Administration wanted more control over recruiting. Remember Crean would extend an offer to any potential recruit that made eye contact. Third, he could not remove players that caused problems because of the NCAA grade issue that he inherited. Remember the locker room stuff? And the players that stopped moving on court? And the other issues about well, never mind. Fourth, take a second and reflect on the difference in support that Woody has. Matta as IU Assistant AD for Administration. Recruiting expertise both inside and outside of the state...check the assistants. Woody can use the transfer portal because it didn't exist for Archie. And Woody's ability to let a player go may be more flexible now...we just have not had time to gain that perspective. Fifth, the cupboard was not in as bad a shape when Woody came in as it was for Archie. Archie never really got the right players for his scheme. At Dayton they were smart, shared the ball, did what was necessary to get the loose ball, they knew how to win. At IU it was the opposite. Why? Well, could it be because of the culture, the players, the IU administration, and the coach couldn't break through all of that? I'm really glad that Archie Miller is gone from IU. I wish him the best. I do believe that he got the short end of the draw from IU. I'm really glad that the administration is seeming to support coach Woody. Good for them. Maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel for the IU basketball future. BDT (aBout Darn Time)

I'm thinking that his wording might be sloppy and dismissive. Maybe he meant that he doesn't dwell on that episode in his coaching career. Maybe he doesn't have a lot positive to say about his take on the IU administration's hobbling his recruiting and not allowing him to cut negative players from the team. Maybe he determined that his method of disciplining players had been skewered by the administration. So, he doesn't discuss it so that writers and fans don't go ballistic when he says something that doesn't match what we want to hear. And it really would be bad form to throw one's previous employer or players under the bus. Maybe being dismissive and cutting off the discussion is a better tactic than talking about it. Maybe. I'm probably right. Usually am. That is all I have to say about that./s

BTown Banners vs. IU team

Great game face! Probably a starter. If we get up by 2 - 0, then just run out the clock. -
BTown Banners vs. IU team
Dave from Dayton replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My eyesight and hearing aren't great. I never played organized basketball or dribbled a basketball on the IU campus. But I never let the facts interfere with my decision making. So I can be a referee if someone provides incentives. -

I actually appreciate your post. Thanks. But.... I have kept my powder dry. I haven't posted at all about this unfortunate situation. Really wish it had not happened. Feel bad for the players, for X, for the team, for Woody, for IU, and for us the fans. It comes down to teaching. If one takes the perspective that winning at Indiana is the single most important thing in the world, then all is lost.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
Dave from Dayton replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Maybe...but who can put the ball in the bucket from outside? And we do need experienced players on the team. I'm talking about those players that know what it takes to win. And they just do it. -
IUWBB Vs UConn- 3/26/2022- NCAA Tournament SWEET 16!!
Dave from Dayton replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
Low turnovers, defense on their shooters, boards...it will be tough with the Connecticut crowd and the U Conn talent. Go Hoosiers! Good luck! -
Peegs and TOS have this. Was he fired? Did he not get along with Woody? Where is he going? Who will replace him? No insider information here. But it was painfully apparent that something wasn't clicking on the staff during games. Fife was 'assigned' to Woody. Now Woody can pick his assistant. I have no problem with that.

Prediction League RESULTS Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
And to those that predicted against our Hoosiers in order to score higher than those 'true fans' a hearty booooo! If you win the rat race...you're still just a rat. But to those who stuck with the candy stripes regardless...you are the winners in my book. (Says the alum that graduated in 1977...undefeated. There will come the day when Don Quixote will actually stick it to the windmill. /s (Congrats Nat. Thx loads Str8Hoosiers!) -
Rate The 2021-2022 Season! Staff + Players
Dave from Dayton replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Was hoping that Phin would have a phenominal year and he just didn't. But he played hard and shared the ball. Was unsure about Xavier and his record of turnovers and his temper. It took him so deep into the season to get that under control. All of the players had need of improvement. The easy non-conference was not a help in my opinion. And the lack of a seasoned upperclass nucleus of a team really sux. The coaching staff seemed unable to either make proper adjustments at the half or fix the slow starts until lately. A lot of the challenge was due to the lack of a great guards until Xavier matured or due to poor shooting. And the team just wasn't clicking. But the team did end well. And the team and coaches implemented a really good to excellent defense! I discount the last game because they were fatigued. They were learning to win. The coaches are learning, too, I hope. There are too many needs for recruiting and transfers to list. I am reluctant to grade the team and coaches because of this being such a transition from before. Regardless, Due to the team being inconsistant early in conference play but jelling for a few at the end...so a pre- final grade of B-. Bonus for beating PU, and defense, and staying, and being Indiana! Final team grade: B! And the coaching did seem professional, did a decent job improving play at the end, with marginal successes. I wonder why Fife sits separate from Woody. With a flawed roster did improve record from previous year. Wondered about substitutions; but we always wonder. Pre-final grade: B-. Bonus for not being Archie, for giving hope, for the defense, and generally meeting goals for Woody's first year: B. Good with lots of room for improvement. * However evaluation and ratings are on a curve...and each successive year for the coaches will get tougher. Recruiting should improve over time. -

Daughter had good seats at UD Arena last night. Said 95% IU fans. Her iPhone couldn't send to my android. That sucked almost as badly as TruTV camerawork. Proud of the IU team. Just keep winning! -

Well any one player can have a field day. But if IU plays an "A" game, isn't tired, the defense travels, hits free throws... Well, you know. -

Was wondering about Race. Anyone notice that he isn't playing like he did earlier in the conference games? Is he so beat up that bruises are on top of bruises? I understand that he always gets tough assignments. Thank goodness that Geronimo has hops and has developed that special sense.
