2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Dave from Dayton replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Awesome thread, you're right. Shows just a bit of Hoosier Hysteria and fan support for the team and coaches. But, the thread would have been a lot more interesting if certain people hadn't kept, well you know. Here's looking at Chris006.9, Stun Who?, some older guy, Race t3, Just Joshing... Getting this back on topic: Bourbon, Pizza, the color of the lockers, 76 degree days in spring on campus, Al Durham's productivity 2 years after his candy stripe days, live music, back in the good old days vs social media activity as a leading indicator, leaks, blue bloods, hype, Little 500, you talkin' to me?, the sky is falling, a sixth NC banner, apple pie and hot sauce... A tip of the ole cream and crimson toupee to Mackenzie Mgbako and his family! Welcome, and thanks for becoming Hoosiers. And to those I alluded to above...thank you all and to the posters/fans for the great information, moderating and this site. -
Yeah. Good points, all. But, I was wondering...maybe, we can't get everything. : )

We need a combo guard/wing that can play at the 1, 2 and 3. He has to hit 3 or 4 3-pointers a game at a clip of 40% or better. Gotta make his own shots and get multiple assists. Be able to score at many levels and is a team player. Has to be talented with a quick step and be able to rebound and block out. Hits free throws at above 85%. Speaks and communicates well...and represents Indiana University in a first-class manner. He has to have more than one year of eligibility remaining. Did I miss something? Oh, yes. I'm not available. But let's discuss the NIL opportunities that are available.

I agree with Josh, too. There are some...ahem...rather positive comments in the above-linked article. Such as: "Massive talent upgrade" "legitimate contender" "no ceiling" "apt comparison is Jared Jefferies" "frontline of Ware, Mgbako and Reneau is more versatile than Jackson-Davis, Thompson and Kopp" "The environment at Indiana is unmatched" Not quite enough overhype by the SI writer who once was working for the IndyStar...but more superlatives would be appreciated like: Hoosiers are Hysterical ...or the Slam Fam...or Woody is the new Wizard of the Cornfields...or...hang on for your Crimson Ride... or ... Multiple Banners Up ... or...He's surpassed Archie... (well, he actually said something like that...) Was a fun read for a SI article. -

There is an old saying that apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze. I just read that cheese on apple pie probably originated in England back in the 1700's when dairy-based cream sauces were used on apple pie. It may have morphed to cheddar or other cheese slices. Makes sense to me because of the lack of the cost and effort to make ice cream in earlier times. Those of us that have read a little history have come to realize that cheese after dessert is considered a luxury in some places. Makes sense to combine cheese and apple pie together with that perspective. And it lasts better on the pie on the sideboard than ice cream. In the south, some would likely be appalled using cheese on hot apple pie instead of ice cream. Well, that may be in today's world. Not likely as much if one sets the Waybac Machine to the 1840's. Cheese slices and apple slices as part of a snack or part of lunch just is virtually a tradition in places. If you never had cheddar cheese fondue with apple slices then you have missed out. That and some Rose or Port or Rhum from St. Marteen. I know of a farming family west of Richmond IN that always offer cheese on apple pie. And ask servers in Haggarstown at the buffet if they serve it that way. Personally, I don't do cheese on apple pie. Give me a scoop of vanilla or Caramel swirl on that warm slice of pie. -

Hey, I was mostly talking about golf. And after 5 strokes, well, I'm done with that... I was in a twosome at Panther Woods in Vero Beach and hit a worm burner off of the first tee. Sam Snead, the course pro emeritus was behind us. He said to me "Your look up is only exceeded by your lunge." I don't know what that means. But, if it's good, it's me! -

Kansas is the benchmark and the program to beat. IU was the last visit and family loved it. My crystal ball has been updated. The answer is: Duke... -

Beer brats with sauteed onions, beer, and bell peppers and cold beer, and your choice of ketchup, spicy mustard, pickle relish and maybe drag it through the other condiments, and beer. Or if in NJ on the boardwalk...Italian sausage and beer. (Guaranteed cure for a hangover. Well, if you smoke a little splif...which I don't.) -

Not about Chick-fil-A. But chicken pot pie are three of my favorite things. And I'm putting my money on MM coming to Indiana! Because of Coach Woody and others. Coach What's his name in KS is so yesterday's news. Hey has MM been to Hoosier Hysteria? He did have an earlier visit, didn't he? -

No I was not countering your whole post about social media. In fact, I actually agree that recruits and players are very active in social media and it means a lot. I was not clear in what I was responding to. Sorry about that. I was only intending to respond to the last phrase in the post which was "... next time a big name player enters the transfer portal or a top recruit decommits we should watch the following count across Twitter and Instagram. " And I meant my response to mean that imho there are better things to look for. For example, I have been watching Gabe Cupps' high school progress and have hopes and believe that he does very well. He is from my backyard in Ohio, y'know. I don't mean to diss your thoughts. I hope MM or someone like him joins the team soon. The window to enter the transfer portal ends today. Those in the portal can join a team later if they so choose. That's what I follow. I still think that IU has a great chance to land MM. And IU would be a great choice for him and his fam. -

I don't think so... I want to see good coaching, a team and a program that represent Indiana University very well, progress towards the end of the season, players that have high basketball IQ, players that share the ball and can make things happen on the court, compete at the highest level in the B1G, compete favorably in the NCAAT, bring home another NCAATC banner, and graduate to become good citizens. -

My pretzel logic ferreting amalgamation bifurcation system is just now about to reach the red zone. Danger, danger!! Almost everyone is overthinking this recruiting. I think. Occam's razor clearly gives us the answer. Just look at the pictures released by the Jayhockers and the Hoosiers. Woody and M&M are glowing up as fam. In the enhanced photos from the blue side, no one is wanting to be seen there. Every single marketing professional knows that the last interview closes successfully the preponderance of the time. The recruiting world has tilted to IU and our coaches. Take it to the bank of the Jordan River in Dunn Meadow. -

Andrew Slater's last comment was that it was down to 2 choices. I'm going with that until there is a public airing otherwise. And confirmed by independent and reputable source(s). ...so what's the latest rumor? -

The gift that keeps on giving?! Oh my! Reminds me of my Navy days. Our submarine put into a bunch of ports on the Atlantic coast. Then we went to Puerto Rico... One guy really shouldn't have put into that port. -

Stuhoo, I chuckle each time I see your new avatar. Not only because of how it got posted on this site. But also in comparison between the body language of Larry Bird and Coach Knight vs MM and Coach Woody in their most recent photo ops...and the surround video. -
Wright State University is located just east of Dayton OH. It is adjacent to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the National Museum of the U. S. Air Force. And WSU is 5 miles from my house. Last year WSU ended their season 6th in the Horizon League. Milwaukee beat WSU in the Horizon League quarterfinal game to end their year at 18 - 15. It is the first time in 7 years that the head coach Nagy's teams have not reached 20 wins. The year before they won the Horizon League and beat NC State as their signature win. In the most recent season, WSU men's team struggled rebounding but shot 48% from the field. Wright State basketball: Scott Nagy not used to average seasons (daytondailynews.com) Here is a little about their 5th-year senior guard. Trey Calvin shoots 49% from the field, and scores 20 ppg. Calvin announces plans to return to Wright State in 2023-24 - Wright State University Athletics (wsuraiders.com) WSU redshirted three freshmen last year. Here is a little about that. Wright State basketball: Raiders hope Noel can build on break-out year (daytondailynews.com) They most likely will be better this year. They are not a tall bunch. But they can shoot and are well coached. They have an experienced and capable PG. They likely will compete for the Horizon League championship. I would speculate that they are very capable of getting into the NCAAT.

Georgia Tech hosts a competition for musical instrument inventions. There's been a huge increase in Instagram and Twitter traffic discussing the positive season that Indiana University is going to have. So it must be true. /s Actually, with Xavier coming back, Reneau, Galloway and others, I'm on board with the roster, too. Pending shooting upgrades, defensive intensity and consistency improvements and creating shots go way up... Would be a good idea to recruit those that can hit free throws. Patiently waiting for news...

7 years is not enough. I went to IU in 1969. Left in December 1970. Entered the military. Went back to IU in 1975. Graduated in 1977. Went to Madison WI and worked. Went to UW in Engineering. Graduated in 1982. That is three decades. I have over 200 undergrad credit hours. 2 BS degrees. Business and Civil and Environmental Engineering. Retired when I was in my mid 50's. There were extenuating circumstances. I keep trying to tell myself. I Don't Wanna Grow Up...Tom Waits Tom Waits - "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" - YouTube I saw Tom Waits and Leon Redbone in Madison in the late 70's. And Jefferson Airplane, BB King, and the Byrds back in 1970, I think...at IU...at the old 10th street stadium next to the main library. Missed the Who at AH...dang. I'm not worried about IU basketball this coming season. It's going to be fun. Put me in coach.

Xavier Johnson granted waiver! Thought that would happen. But great news.
