All-Time IU “If They Hadn’t Been Hurt” Team
Dave from Dayton replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yogi Ferrell may just have been the best PG at Indiana since Isiah 'Zeke' Thomas. Another record setter...so he just may not qualify. However, he got his bell rung at least twice and other injuries...his back and his thumb. I noticed that he was a step slower in his junior and senior years as compared to his freshman and sophomore years. Just didn't quite have the edge that would have made such a difference. Frustrating to fans and to Yogi...no doubt. Don't get this wrong. I thought he was great. Just off enough in performance that it was noticeable. Why? Was it the team? I really thought it was the noggin got hurt repeatedly. It just may well have been his back. Well, and he was short. And the team..and Tom Crean...jeez, it was stacked against Yogi...opponents really did slam him. Big Ten is a grind...each and every game...for Yogi...4 years of taking punishment. Too mas? -

In 8 days, I believe that we will see the culmination of the IU coaches grand plan to land Fland and McNeeley. Welcome to IU! And that's all I have to say about that.* *Until my next post, that is. -

I do not have any Fs left to GAF about the whole state of Kentucky. Well, the natural bridges in the Red River Gorge area are superb. And the limestone caves are a great way to cool off in summer...except that they seem to swallow old car museums. One has to give them credit for the State Park named Bone Lick. And the Jefferson Davis birthplace obelisk that is taller than the Washington Monument. And those large lakes do seem to prove that the best thing to do with most of Kentucky is to flood it. Oh, yeah, bourbon...there is that. My family lived in Paintsville KY for a short spell way back when I was learning to walk. My father worked for Ashland Oil as an engineer and my mother had a BS in Accounting from Pitt in the late '40's. She was reluctant to tell anyone at the time in eastern KY. That just did not happen...to hill people. To teach in elementary schools, one did not need to have graduated from high school. We moved immediately. In perspective...to earn a college degree in accounting back them is and was quite an accomplishment for a woman at the time. Quite unusual. Does FedEx still botch delivery of bags of cash to recruits? No? Didn't think so. They made the bags indestructible. How many national championship titles has UK had taken away after the 'fact'? Too numerous to count (TNTC). I kind of appreciate Dook...because they beat UK like a rug. Remembering the Wat Shot makes me smile.

If you say so. Since I don't tweet...I did not see the alleged re-tweet that you say has: 10 more days. I saw the sign that had 10 on it. Did not understand at the time what the context for that number 10 was referencing. -
(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

I'm going to ask some questions about predictions and projections by basketball recruiting rumor sites. ITH has posted on 10/2 that Rivals has McNeeley and Fland going to IU at 100%. And Crystal Ball has Queen going to Maryland at 100%. I do see that the two 'sports writers' for Crystal Ball are affiliated with reporting Maryland sports. So I tend to take that into account but do not throw out Crystal Ball's predictions on Queen. Ant Wright: "Mike Woodson, I'm impressed". Woody's east coast connections may just make a real difference with Fland and his fam. How come Rivals picks IU for McNeeley and Fland? Why do they exclude Queen? It is noted that McNeeley has been reported making his decision and announcing within 2 weeks. I have to tip my toupee to the IU basketball coaching staff having reportedly pulled out all stops in this recruitment. Well done. Also to Btown Banners, Class of '66 Old Fart and Stuhoo and Demo and all of you IU fans...thanks for bringing basketball at IU 24/7, 365. It is greatly appreciated. I really do want IU to get Fland. Going up against pUKy would be a challenge. Seems that Woody and his staff are equal to it. I think Woody has overcome his learning curve. Just win, baby! -

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
We really need a great PG in '24. I was looking for a decent evaluation of Fland, the player. The below linked article has a really in-depth evaluation. It probably has been discussed before and linked: FILM STUDY: What could Boogie Fland bring to Indiana? - Sports Illustrated Indiana Hoosiers News, Analysis and More He is looking for a system that will develop him best. Referred to JHS and his improvements and opportunities at IU. Above article says that if Fland is bumped on the way to the rim, it alters his flow way too much. Get in the weight room and get ready for the B1G and the NBA grind. Maybe needs to slow it down his last two steps to the rim. Defense also needs effort. Outside shooting may need some improvement but since he shoots 81% from the line, and close to 34% from the 3, he is a hitter. Other than that, he walks on water. And makes his teammates better. He is a smart PG and quick. In marketing an intantible like Indiana basketball, it is a challenge for the coaches and players. But Woodie is really good, obviously. One never can stop closing a deal like this. Bring on the Boogie. -

All I want for my birthday (October 13) is a bunch of recruits announcing to IU...and then soon thereafter another NC banner. If you stick around, maybe I will think of some more that I want... -

I remember '76-'77...those were the days...shine on you beautiful diamond. Just recovering from Covid after being in Portugal. Lost 9 pounds in a week when I got back to the USA. Man, it was a dreadful week... Let me know when IU gets a great PG like Buckner or Thomas. Oh, and a great team that can shoot, defend, share the ball and win. Hype doesn't do it for me. -
IUMS vs Michigan - Tuesday, 09.26.23 @ 7:30
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
IU had lots of shots on the goal. They were just not accurate. That and no real quality setups...assists. Seems set plays are minimal. They do need someone to streak in and put paid on goals. -
2023 IUFB Prediction League - Week 5 at Maryland 9/30/23 3:30pm BTN
Dave from Dayton replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Indiana Hoosiers 13 Maryland Turtles 27 Indiana doesn't run the ball well. The Hoosiers only got 3 first downs against Akron. Playing on the road is not a joy for IU. And we do not typically cover the spread. Our offensive play calling is pure drudgery. To top it all off, I have Covid-19 and feel lousy. But I am under the care of young Dr. Frankenstein, and my hair is growing back. What else is on in that time slot? Reruns of Sammy Terry hosted old black and white Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff movies? Or The Avengers with Emma Peel. Oh yeah! -

Can you just give me my participation award now? I would not have to weekly show the disparity between my thoughts of what the football team and coaches should be doing and what they actually did. Jeez, and I used to like football. Then I attended IU. -
The Nazare lighthouse is atop the cliff to the left. Wearing a surfing tee shirt bought atop the cliff. 73 degrees, red flag. Some surfers. But it is not the season.

Ola from Nazare.

Bonsai Pipeline on Oahu during Quicksilver is cray cray. Sunset Beach is beautiful then gets serious. I don't surf. But am a water lover. Except when green water washed over the submarine while on watch topside in the English Channel. That was enough surfing for me.

Found one, and only one, basketball court in Prado Portugal.

Presently in Portugal on the south coast. Lots of olive, cork, orange trees. Beautiful vista's and lots of fish dishes and wines. Lagos is a fun place. There are no guns allowed without special reasons. . I will be enjoying ruby port wine and cheering IU football. If I am awake.

2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
And there's a saying: BS walks, and money talks. But in marketing it is all about target marketing and one is always closing. In other words, each individual...each potential recruit has desires, motivations, requirements & etc. that are personal and real. Family may be on top of the list. Demographics and culture could be up there. Personal relations are always huge. Organizational support of athletics including NIL, scholarship, day-to-day activities, facilities, teammates, coaches, fans, ability to have family/friends/scouts watching on TV and in the arenas, history, future opportunities, personal growth, vision, communication, technology, staying current in multimedia and as desires change, winning, maturity, all come in to play. Some more important than others. What to emphasize? How to do that? Glad all I have to do is decide which games to attend, yell at the refs and the TV, and POTFB. -
Not me. His advanced, futuristic improvisations using electronic keyboards and everything lost me. Maybe there is just not enough of his discography recorded and out there for me to evaluate. Heh... Wow. My girlfriend, at the time, now wife and I fell in love to Les McCann's Invitation to Openess. While that album was loose and mostly improvisational, it had funky grooves and used flutes and reeds and rhythm. Unpredictable, yet follows a theme. Goes well with wine and cheese and romantic evenings. I like some of Miles Davis's performances...but some gets too shrill for me. Wynton Marsalis, in concert, was quite the classic-based jazz. Not my style...but good. Bradford Marsalis and the Jazz Messengers is very approachable and I like it. Tom (Scott} Cat and the LA Express, back in the late '70's was a fun gig to enjoy...but his smooth jazz is too...smooth...and later...some stuff is dreary. The Bird...what can I say? The Monk... Not a fan of big bands from the 20's and 40's. Some Latin/Carribean Jazz is good. Earth jazz I will listen to and be selective. Not a big fan of New Orleans Jazz...that is unless one is marching in costume (or not) and consuming mass quantities of whatever...which I don't really do, in spite of some of my posts. Dave Brubeck, kind of fun...but a bit too redundant if you get my drift. Love Urban Jazz Coalition from Columbus OH. Down to the Bone is something else...really like them. Miss Gilly's nightclub in Dayton. He brought in loads of talent from Chicago. Love the breaks that Steeley Dan put down. Listen to instrumental blues all the time. I perk up when between stanzas a band does something different with the break. I would give a bit to be able to hear some of the Allman Brothers breaks. Tenor Saxaphone with a vision can take me for a ride. Caught Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...and Dave Grisman...and Tony Rice...way back in Louisville at the KY Fried Bluegrass Festival~ do you like jazzy bluegrass? I do. Wife fell for early Rick Braun. But smooth jazz is way too smooth...after one song, lately, I change it to blues. Dayton's own Sinclair Community College band director gets jazz/music graduates and very good students together once a year in November for a jazz ensemble. Cool cats! At the Montreal Jazz Festival about 8 years ago, we enjoyed lots of varied jazz performances with one standout group from Newfoundland. It was an Irish-influenced jazz-folk band with hand drums, violin, guitar, etc...with the lead dancing on his hands and arms upside down. The crowd was fun and the music was uplifting. Spyro Gyra, downtown in a park in Columbus OH, just was not the right venue, I guess. I have lost over 50% of my hearing in mid-ranges. Really good hearing aids do not bring back good sounds in low volumes. Crowds in restaurants or bars drive me nuts with competing sounds...I lose the voice of people across the table. I'm a member of the 'What?' generation. Bluetooth is really not capable of doing multiple tracks at once. Loud music works. One can actually, eventually, pick out individual instruments...amazing. If anyone has a solution to those problems please let me know. Protect your ears. Hearing is a gift. And it goes for all disabilities...just think...most of us are temporarily not disabled. Be sensitive to your brothers and sisters...for many reasons.
