IU Men's Soccer News and Notes

It was like IU fell asleep on defense for 10 minutes.

(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

All I want for my birthday (October 13) is a bunch of recruits announcing to IU...and then soon thereafter another NC banner. If you stick around, maybe I will think of some more that I want...

I remember '76-'77...those were the days...shine on you beautiful diamond. Just recovering from Covid after being in Portugal. Lost 9 pounds in a week when I got back to the USA. Man, it was a dreadful week... Let me know when IU gets a great PG like Buckner or Thomas. Oh, and a great team that can shoot, defend, share the ball and win. Hype doesn't do it for me.

    IUMS vs Michigan - Tuesday, 09.26.23 @ 7:30

IU had lots of shots on the goal. They were just not accurate. That and no real quality setups...assists. Seems set plays are minimal. They do need someone to streak in and put paid on goals.
  5. Indiana Hoosiers 13 Maryland Turtles 27 Indiana doesn't run the ball well. The Hoosiers only got 3 first downs against Akron. Playing on the road is not a joy for IU. And we do not typically cover the spread. Our offensive play calling is pure drudgery. To top it all off, I have Covid-19 and feel lousy. But I am under the care of young Dr. Frankenstein, and my hair is growing back. What else is on in that time slot? Reruns of Sammy Terry hosted old black and white Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff movies? Or The Avengers with Emma Peel. Oh yeah!

Can you just give me my participation award now? I would not have to weekly show the disparity between my thoughts of what the football team and coaches should be doing and what they actually did. Jeez, and I used to like football. Then I attended IU.

Bonsai Pipeline on Oahu during Quicksilver is cray cray. Sunset Beach is beautiful then gets serious. I don't surf. But am a water lover. Except when green water washed over the submarine while on watch topside in the English Channel. That was enough surfing for me.

Presently in Portugal on the south coast. Lots of olive, cork, orange trees. Beautiful vista's and lots of fish dishes and wines. Lagos is a fun place. There are no guns allowed without special reasons. . I will be enjoying ruby port wine and cheering IU football. If I am awake.

    2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

And there's a saying: BS walks, and money talks. But in marketing it is all about target marketing and one is always closing. In other words, each individual...each potential recruit has desires, motivations, requirements & etc. that are personal and real. Family may be on top of the list. Demographics and culture could be up there. Personal relations are always huge. Organizational support of athletics including NIL, scholarship, day-to-day activities, facilities, teammates, coaches, fans, ability to have family/friends/scouts watching on TV and in the arenas, history, future opportunities, personal growth, vision, communication, technology, staying current in multimedia and as desires change, winning, maturity, all come in to play. Some more important than others. What to emphasize? How to do that? Glad all I have to do is decide which games to attend, yell at the refs and the TV, and POTFB.

Not me. His advanced, futuristic improvisations using electronic keyboards and everything lost me. Maybe there is just not enough of his discography recorded and out there for me to evaluate. Heh... Wow. My girlfriend, at the time, now wife and I fell in love to Les McCann's Invitation to Openess. While that album was loose and mostly improvisational, it had funky grooves and used flutes and reeds and rhythm. Unpredictable, yet follows a theme. Goes well with wine and cheese and romantic evenings. I like some of Miles Davis's performances...but some gets too shrill for me. Wynton Marsalis, in concert, was quite the classic-based jazz. Not my style...but good. Bradford Marsalis and the Jazz Messengers is very approachable and I like it. Tom (Scott} Cat and the LA Express, back in the late '70's was a fun gig to enjoy...but his smooth jazz is too...smooth...and later...some stuff is dreary. The Bird...what can I say? The Monk... Not a fan of big bands from the 20's and 40's. Some Latin/Carribean Jazz is good. Earth jazz I will listen to and be selective. Not a big fan of New Orleans Jazz...that is unless one is marching in costume (or not) and consuming mass quantities of whatever...which I don't really do, in spite of some of my posts. Dave Brubeck, kind of fun...but a bit too redundant if you get my drift. Love Urban Jazz Coalition from Columbus OH. Down to the Bone is something else...really like them. Miss Gilly's nightclub in Dayton. He brought in loads of talent from Chicago. Love the breaks that Steeley Dan put down. Listen to instrumental blues all the time. I perk up when between stanzas a band does something different with the break. I would give a bit to be able to hear some of the Allman Brothers breaks. Tenor Saxaphone with a vision can take me for a ride. Caught Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...and Dave Grisman...and Tony Rice...way back in Louisville at the KY Fried Bluegrass Festival~ do you like jazzy bluegrass? I do. Wife fell for early Rick Braun. But smooth jazz is way too smooth...after one song, lately, I change it to blues. Dayton's own Sinclair Community College band director gets jazz/music graduates and very good students together once a year in November for a jazz ensemble. Cool cats! At the Montreal Jazz Festival about 8 years ago, we enjoyed lots of varied jazz performances with one standout group from Newfoundland. It was an Irish-influenced jazz-folk band with hand drums, violin, guitar, etc...with the lead dancing on his hands and arms upside down. The crowd was fun and the music was uplifting. Spyro Gyra, downtown in a park in Columbus OH, just was not the right venue, I guess. I have lost over 50% of my hearing in mid-ranges. Really good hearing aids do not bring back good sounds in low volumes. Crowds in restaurants or bars drive me nuts with competing sounds...I lose the voice of people across the table. I'm a member of the 'What?' generation. Bluetooth is really not capable of doing multiple tracks at once. Loud music works. One can actually, eventually, pick out individual instruments...amazing. If anyone has a solution to those problems please let me know. Protect your ears. Hearing is a gift. And it goes for all disabilities...just think...most of us are temporarily not disabled. Be sensitive to your brothers and sisters...for many reasons.

If my predictions continue on this track...would I just be able to drop my overall score? Oh well, I'm ahead of ...um...not many.
  17. Really? Sitting over here in enemy land, I guess that I have missed a lot of that interaction. I have noticed some of that. LEO, eh? 'You always hurt the one you love The one you shouldn't hurt at all' Mills Bros.
  18. While it may seem to be somewhat out of place...to me it indicates that the coach is emphasizing the need to focus on the next play. Get pumped up for it. The previous play may have been awful or a player really goofed up. Learn from it. But, onward and upward. Let's go. Would it be better to demean a player or curse the hell out of them? A manager has a lot of tools to use. One I had to keep repeating to myself is 'Listen, and respond with empathy'. It does not mean to agree. I needed to remind myself to not respond immediately in a way that would stop any positive motivation on the part of others.

    IUMS @ USF - Friday, 09.08.23 @ 7:00

SF wins 1 - 0. SF controlled the whole game.
  20. And the defense let ISU march all the way down the field. Fumble sucked, too. Playing down to the competition or...
  21. Soccer: IU 0, SF 1 with 3 minutes left in 1st half.
  22. Looked good to me! Call stands!
  23. South Florida again got behind IU's defenders. SF 1, Indiana 0. Soccer.
  24. Last time I looked...IU vs SFU soccer is 0 0. Go IU!
  25. Game Day! The excitement! The buzz! The tradition... Well, never mind that. Football vs soccer...that is the question. IU's game plan is like that of golf. Keep your head down and keep the score low.
