IUBB vs Wright State - Thursday, 11.16.23 @ 7:00 on BTN
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Rowdy Raider hasn’t always been the gray and white wolf we know today. The Wright State mascot has gone through several iterations since the university started playing varsity basketball in 1970. A 1971 student contest determined that Wright State’s colors would be hunter green and gold and its athletic teams would be called the Raiders. Early renderings of the mascot showed a pirate with a bandana and an eye patch. It wasn’t until 1986 that Rowdy Raider, a Viking with a horned helmet and red beard, emerged as the official mascot (possibly reflecting Cleveland State’s newly adopted mascot, the cartoon character Hägar the Horrible). However, some felt that the mascot shouldn’t represent a specific gender or cultural heritage. A marketing firm was hired to update Rowdy in 1996 and replace the Viking with an animal that could be considered a raider. The following year the Viking Rowdy was retired. In his place stood a brown wolf in a jersey and sneakers. The current version of Rowdy Raider was unveiled in 2007. The new wolf is gray, white, and black, and is described as being “fierce” with claws for hands and feet. In recent years, Rowdy’s talents have gone beyond sporting events to appear at a variety of functions around campus and throughout the community. A social media star, Rowdy has appeared in YouTube videos, Snapchat stories, and photos on Facebook and Instagram. Rowdy even launched a Twitter account—@RowdyWSU—in 2014. The ALL THINGS ABOUT ANNOUNCERS Thread

Years ago, I was with my FIL playing golf at Old Oakland GC in Indy. Clark Kellog and George McGinnis were playing as a twosome directly behind us. The were definitely oversized for their golf cart. That and they could really launch their drives farther into the woods than anyone in my memory. Good thing too. We were in range. And so were others in different fairways. I remember Big George, Joby Wright, Steve Downing, Jerry Memering...at the old fieldhouse...they sure played bigger than 6'7". -

Well, I have no doubt in that number. I do wonder what Payton Sparks' quickness numbers were with his boot. And then without it. And Xavier's versus Yogi's... And those comics on Whose Line Is It Anyway? They are quick. -
This band won't make it. Nov. 14, 1964: Rolling Stones flop in Dayton Fewer than 1,000 of the 6,000 seats in the new Hara Arena were filled for the appearance of the Rolling Stones in Dayton. The band had also bombed in Ft. Wayne and Cleveland before coming to Dayton. Lead singer Mick Jagger was still able to get some enthusiasm from those that did attend their shortened concert. The band was only on stage for less than 20 minutes and sang only eight songs, of what the Dayton Daily News reporter called, “their brand of noise.” The reviewer went on to say, “Except for unanimously shunning barbers the group has utter disdain for uniformity, even to the point of working in whatever costume they happened to be wearing when it’s time to go on.” Brian Jones, a founding member of the band, did not make the trip to Dayton, he was ill in a Chicago hospital at the time. I'm not terribly worried about the IU team. If they don't play good defense, Coach Woody will sit them. If they don't hustle, Coach will sit them. If they don't play the play, then samo. I am concerned, but worrying never got anybody anything. I think that there will be some motivational factors applied this week and next. I'm watching Wright State tonight at 7 playing Toledo on ESPN+. Then I likely will change my prediction for the first time evah. You know what I want to see? Ware stopping POTFB's Edey down the road. I'd much rather have hope than worry. I much prefer emulating Don Quixote than Eeyore. -

Really have a personal issue about viewing anything on X (Twitter). Plus, being hearing impaired and without closed captioning, I really struggle hearing/understanding. Is there a really brief description of the predictions? Does it matter? Regardless, thanks for posting. -

I have mixed thoughts about volume 3s being attempted. This assumes we have a volume of possessions and can afford, maybe, to miss a large percentage...thereby making offensive rebounding that much more important. How are we doing on offensive rebounding? Never mind. How are we doing on turnovers? Never mind. I also do not necessarily believe that more shots from the 3 line ends up automatically reducing the efficiency of making shots. Especially if passing improves and plays set up the outside shooters. Plus, if shooting from the outside isn't getting more points and giving the ball to the opponent, then the more efficient strategy is to go inside or spot up or assist more. Defense, too, comes into the mix. It is complicated. Not really a good idea to just point out one variable as a fix. -
Oh, yes! Especially, as you surely knew, in Dayton. That is because of the Wright Brothers' warped wing concept to turn and control their Flyers. Quite a story that. There is a brewery, here, named Warped Wing. And a Toxic Brewery. Oh, and Hairless Hare. The Carillon Brewing Company...reproducing historical beer & European comfort-food recipes, with staff in period costume...located in an historical park that houses the original 1905 Wright Flyer III. Right next to the University of Dayton...whose basketball team is the Flyers. And....

Wright State Raiders 65 Indiana Hoopsters 75 I live 6 miles from Wright State. Been on the campus a couple of times. Haven't been to any games this year. They got skunked the other day by Colorado State. They play again Tuesday against Toledo. Too little information so far on either team to make a good guesstimate. Their Kenpom is around 160. IU's in above 60 and not improving. These ratings do not mean much at the beginning of the season. Tuesday 11/14 at 7 ET Toledo visits Wright State.
