Defense by Rutger will make it look ugly. Remember, they are excellent on defense. -

SIL says it is raining real hard in Princeton. As long as IU plays a decent defense, it will be a win. -

There is a flood warning near New Brunswick NJ. There is no sunshine and rainbows there. Indiana, if they play decent defense, will win. Do not get discouraged about the offense. Every team feels that against Rutger. X needs to be on. Well, hell, the whole team does...especially on the road. If fouls and turnovers are under control....IU will prevail. Go IU! -

Hoping for a win. This game will be really ugly at times because of Rutger's defense. IU has to make Rutger look ugly too...by playing a great defense. No injuries...please. IUBB vs Ohio State - Saturday, 01.06.24 @ 8:00 on Fox TV
Dave from Dayton replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm somewhat perplexed about IU this season. Really not happy about either Auburn or Nebraska games. Could try to explain it away by saying that these players are human. They got outhustled, to say the least. Then all but folded. Should we really blame someone for that? I say we blame the opponents for their hustle and effectiveness. IU just did not have the starch in them those days to stay with the other teams. I can't say why. But IU has been in the NCAAT two years in a row. This season is not done. In my opinion, there are lots of pros and cons to the team and the coaches and their performances. The substitution pattern against OSU last night was not as bad as it was 5 or so games ago. The 2nd string does not show up in mass. And they were not left in the game for an extended period. If I remember correctly, Xavier and Ware came back in fairly quickly. And the adjustments in the 2nd half were amazing. 4 turnovers for the game, hitting free throws, all contributing scoring and defense. Not bad. Not bad at all. Yeah, the team and the coaching staff are flawed. Welcome to reality. Churning head coaches every 3 or 4 years is not a great strategy. Sure, sometimes one must make a decision and make a change. I just don't think that it is justified now. IU just beat a good conference team. That is a weighty fact. If only they could do that consistently and on the road. Just win baby! -

I have to tip my toupee to Xavier. He was gassed. Obviously... But every time after placing his hands on his knees indicating he was very tired he went and ran and defended and played to the best of his ability. Seems players just may shoot short if tired near the end of the game. So he missed the shot terribly. He laughed, embarrassed and good naturedly. And Ware, behind him, was laughing and sharing the joke. (Not sure if those things happened just like that...) They were in a good mood. Played better defense in the 2nd half. Protected the ball. Rebounds were not good. Wonder what was up with Ware? Was he not feeling well? Otherwise, really nice 2nd half. 27 points by OSU during that half. Well done. -
Don't you just hate it when someone takes a quote out of context and applies it elsewhere?

I hate OSU. Keep going in person to watch and IU vs OSU game. I lost both times recently. Man that suck big ones. Beat the crap out of THE fu(&nuts. And I now live in Ohio...nice place but the fans are a tad like they are entitled. Go IU! -
I can see where some are sloppy with proper nouns and they should be spelled correctly. Especially in a published final document. But this is a fan site. Sloppiness and imprecision is/are/was/were/ain't expected and generally accepted by me at least. Heck, I'm a professional engineer...I'm perfect all of the time. Methinks that some need to have a better gription on thingys that others are trying to get across. Not so much about pronuncipications and alphabetmetronics...and speling. Right, L C or Elsie...?

Ohio State is the much better basketball team. They probably will win. But, I do not care about that. OSU 73 Indiana 75 IU surprises us and plays defense. Yeah, I know. Right, sure. Trust me. Put money on it? No way. -
Prediction League RESULTS Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I thoroughly understand and could 'predict' a lot more accurately than my Prediction Thread shows. But, I don't really care about who or why someone is more 'objective' than I post in this game. I never put $$ on sports gambling. I grew up within walking distance of a parimutuel horse racing venue and loved it. But never have I put more than $2 on a horse. So professional gambling, in my opinion, is for other people to get their dopamine hits. Not me. Play the lottery...you have got to be kidding me. Why do I want more money? I have enough. I also do not hang a hat on any player's career night impacting the next games. So the premise in the above post is not necessarily correct about that. I could see, and posted early on this site, that IU needed guards and shooters much before this season started. The 'fix' has been missed. So IU is dependent on the inside game. This gives opponents an opportunity to shut down IU's offense more easily. Back to the Prediction Thread. It gives me some pleasure to be involved in discussing the pros and cons of IU's team's performance in advance and during the games. Not so much after the fact. I do not get any satisfaction from posting that IU should lose to OSU tonight. Hope springs eternal. Never, ever, should any team come to SSAH and win over IU. Not ever. What really pisses me off is that the coaching staff is missing the boat. The X's and O's are not putting IU in position to take advantage of matchups and other opportunities during the game. B.L. Glad that you are 'professionally' able to predict. Good on you. But, I do not care about that. I care only about this team, the coaches and them doing their best. They are not even close. That is the issue. Notice, I am not saying that they have to win each and every game. Just that they need to grow up and do better...all..of...the...time. Sure, I wear my heart on my sleeve. I like that placement much better than any 'satisfaction' others get picking an OSU tonight. How dare you? ! /s Pick against MY HOOSIERS. ... As they say in New Joisie...Get outa heya!! /s I do really like this site. And I appreciate the hell out of those that give time and effort to make it better, interesting and moderated. Love the discussions. Some need to be shorter and to the point. Not run on and on. (looks in mirror. Oh.) -

Prediction League RESULTS Thread
Dave from Dayton replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It is not that we sux. IU is terribly inconsistent and unfocused at times. Erratic and sloppy perimeter play and lack of defense hurt the team. And we here trying to predict and anticipate all of that...are behind the curve. Especially on the road. But the positive side of all of this is that they and we have a lot of the season to go. I can't pull out much more of my hair. The biggest question is not if this is a flawed team...because it is. The question is can Coach Woody and his staff fix it or at least figure out how best to use it and position it to win? Uh...well...ugh... (And then recruit better and use the portal better.) -
I don't play the lottery. Because I won it 46 years ago when I married by girlfriend. We have been happy. 2 wonderful girls that are launched and with significant others. But IU hasn't won a NC since I don't know when. Life sux donut.

Should I throw my beloved Hoosiers under the bus and go with the Vegas prognosticators? Noooo! Another year in the lower half of the prediction game. The sky is crying...Stevie Ray Vaughan, B B King, Albert King, Paul Butterfield - The Sky Is Crying (youtube.com) -
I just finished Thom's Panther in the Sky which is about Tecumseh. It was pretty good. Kept my interest. Wasn't really in the noir style since it seemed to put Tecumseh up on a pedestal. One thing that bothered me about Panther in the Sky is that it did not even mention any significance of earthworks, mounds, and paths to Newark from all across Ohio. I have always been fascinated by native American mounds and the Shawnee, Miamis and Mississipian cultures. Grew up close to Angel Mounds in Evansville. Have visited mound sites from Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida...and others. Notable are Cahokia near East St. Louis, Newark Earthworks east of Columbus OH, and Serpent Mound northeast of Cincinnati. If one has not read about Serpent Mound, do so. It has multiple theories about measuring the sun and moon and fertility rites. And nearby Fort Ancient was misnamed. It was not a defensive structure. Read a biography of Mad Anthony Wayne which I have mixed feelings about. Unlikely General by Mary Stockwell was another learning experience. Lots of research went into it. But General Wayne was...ahem...flawed. Wayne ran around...got his head turned by power...avoided debtors by getting elected to Congress from two states...and lobbied heavily to be placed in charge of the army going up the Miami River to the Great Lakes. Panther in the Sky was more enjoyable as an easy read. Unlikely General was not fun...but both are recommended. I will read anything by Shelby Foote.
