Game Thread: vs. Eastern Michigan 11/9 - 6 pm - BTN
Dave from Dayton replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I, for one, am not worried about this team. I, also, am not worried about the new coach. TJD, and Race are as good as last year. Maybe better. They are clicking together and loose. Sure, TJD needs to improve his FTs. And Race needs to get better on 3's and rebound lots. Guard improvement is happening. Phin looked lots better, albeit just the first half. Tamar Bates is interesting and has quickness and a head for the ball. Patrick Stewart has talent and so does X. They came out of the blocks quickly. But they lost focus in the 2nd half. Shot selection will improve. The experimentation of different lineups will settle down. Improvements will likely happen in shooting percentages and rebounds. Taking a step back...they do need to learn how to win. And our coaches know how to do that. It is a teaching opportunity. -

I got a kick out of Coach Woodson sitting and showing little emotion. No doubt that 1st game thoughts were on his mind. That and maybe how to differentiate his tenure from that of others at IU. And he probably wanted to keep somewhat detached and objective to learn this new team. As an aside, he may have been channeling the Wizard of Westwood. Envision Woodson = Wooden! -

Needed to keep feeding TJD in the 2nd half. Two really dumb plays...the technical and then the 3-point foul...then Race got his 4th foul...changed the feel of the game. Started attempting 3's but no inside game and no rebounds...no free throws went in. Get a defender on Fark and it changes the game in the 2nd half. Seems the fire went out. -

Yeah, hope they can fix X's shooting. But he does have a quick first step. Love Patrick Stewart's start...2 3's! And Phin is back. Just don't want to see him hold it...move! Race is a glue guy. Just want to see IU's offense against some tougher and taller teams. -
Last minute season predictions
Dave from Dayton replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Too many unknowns to make an educated prediction. So, my WAG on IU's basketball season is as follows: 1. IU finds a really decent point guard, some shooters, and Coach Woodsen does well: 20 wins, 2 in the BTT, 2 in the NCAAT; 2. IU surprises with a great point guard, Kopp and Race step it up; Galloway hits some 3's, TJD has a better year with others carrying the load and helping, Tamar Bates breaks out...27 wins including tourneys...elite 8. I think that #1 happens but cheering for #2. PS It has been way too long since IU has had really good guards in both the 1 and 2 spot...Kind of a parallel to the football team not keeping 2 really excellent QBs for a whole season. Woulda, coulda, shoulda...if only...and speaking of soccer: need scorers and passers...oh well. -

The good news: EMU @ IU Tuesday. Toss it up, man! The bad news: Well, I've predicted IU wins again and again...but,... IU 20 ichigan 31 The sky is crying....SRV.\ One bourbon, one scotch and one beer...GT&TD./ Cherry Red Wine...Luther Allison... In 1957 Allison's first band he named: The Rolling Stones... but, he wasn't happy with the name and changed it....believe it or not. My girlfriend, now my wife, and I saw Luther Allison at the Bluebird in 1977! -
Most Coveted IU Basketball Memorabilia?
Dave from Dayton replied to MikeRoberts's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I want another one or 5...just like this: (Yeah...the plaid sports coat, I mean.) PS...It's not really basketball related...but it is Indiana University - Bloomington to me...my hair...I want my 'radial' or 'fro back...really. I got 'the cut' across from Nick's...think I lost it watching IU basketball in the last two decades...there...IU basketball related. -
Most Coveted IU Basketball Memorabilia?
Dave from Dayton replied to MikeRoberts's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The next five Indiana University Men's Basketball Team NCAA Championship Banners dated 2022 - 2027 or so...imho. Or this with those dates... (Actually, how can anything be better than the memories of attending Indiana University and graduating the year of the undefeated 1977 Hoosiers! And then marrying my college sweetheart in that same year. We together with friends and family continue to cheer on ole IU!) . -
IUBB v Belmont - Secret Scrimmage
Dave from Dayton replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I watched it about a day or so after the Bahamas exhibition games. But, I had difficulty following players since I couldn't see the player's numbers on their jerseys. Impression was that they got the ball across the half-court line quickly and into play very quickly. Ended up not watching late in the game. But was very glad the video was taken and provided. -
I don't have any idea if RMK will donate anything more. He really did hold the grudge that IU administration did him dirty. Well, they did. But arguably he did a lot to feed the fire. So, imho there was culpability on both sides. More to the point, though...his giving to the IU players likely would not be something that would be decided by him presently. (Assuming significant mental impairment due to dementia and his possible signing power of attorney.) He likely decided long ago about the disposition of his funds. Those that now have power of attorney may see a softening of attitude. I hope so. On both sides. I for one think that he has giving a heck of a lot to Indiana University. He has set the bar about as high as it can be set. He gifted monies and his endorsement many times over. His team went undefeated! IU beat the best in the B1G when the B1G was tougher than nails. He was a very good shooter as a player...evidenced by the fact that he didn't hit anyone with the chair. After all...he is The General...Bob Knight. Besides he really did make plaid the thing.

A little about EMU and their recent exhibition game: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/what-we-learned-takeaways-from-emu-mbb-e2-80-99s-preseason-victory-over-oakland-university/ar-AAQcAF6?ocid=uxbndlbing My prediction: Indiana 80; EMU 60. -
Remember the oldie 'Midnight on the Oasis'? It's by 6 time Grammy Award winner Maria Muldaur. Well, she has another song out that has an interesting hook. Believe it or not...'I'm Vaccinated and Ready for Love'. Her voice sounds like it...ahem...has 50 more years on it...but the title made me laugh. And it's a good rollicking bluesy rock. Oh you negative naysayers. Well, let me tell you that the way to maintain happiness and attain the goals is with love and compassion. Leo, my friends! Each and every one of us has the power to define our own life and goals. My dream is to have IU win a few bowl games...and then get even better. Tom Allen gets this. And there will be bumps in the road. It is a tough slog. But it will happen. It is happening. Let it happen: IU 24 Maryland 17 Some of you who don't think IU will win this game may have insecurities and secretly harbor a desire to have gone to Purdooo. It's that or you want Corso back. /s -

Dave from Dayton replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
A losing mentality...yeah...that it is. I'm not surprised that IU lost some or all of those games. Sure, hoping to win them and even predicted that IU would win 3 of the 5. But, after seeing and following IU for over 50 years and seeing them lose to OSU and MIchigan etc. over and over and over again...and living through Pont and Corso for crying out loud...a losing mentality? No. Tradition? Hmm...maybe...but hopefully not. What is your solution? Haven't heard the way out of this. By the way, if you couldn't tell that most of my post was...ahem...not made in a too serious of an attitude. Lighten up Gladys. It's only a game. Kind of like Monopoly. Except that IU isn't holding the blues and greens or yellows or reds... -

Oh, woe is Indiana football. Losing to 5 top 11 teams in the nation...what has become of IU? Indiana football is in a position of one foot in a rut and one foot on a banana peel. We really do need a quarterback that can complete 60% of his passes and is mobile and can think and can avoid costly errors. We need an offensive line that can hold their own against the competition. We need depth at all the positions. We need an OC that can best utilize what we have. I am not going to throw away this team and this season because of some injuries and an awfully stacked schedule. I like Tom Allen. He will do well at IU...and has already. This season is not a bust even though our won/loss record looks and is awful. If any of you think that IU should be better than this without Penix and with this OL and this OC, then you are fooling yourselves. But therein lies the rub. Why did Tom Allen get this OC? Why did Tom Allen settle for an injured Penix and a backup like Tuttle and this OL? Why did this OC go to the unimaginative game theory of run run pass punt? (Against OSU, the first two possessions looked better.) Maybe, just maybe IU needs some sharp recruiters like they have, apparently, just gotten over on the basketball side. Maybe they need a coach emeritus like they got from OSU on the basketball side. Coach Woodson may just pull the rabbit out of his hat. I think that over time, Tom Allen will too. (I did like the fact that IU tried the 3rd and 4th string QBs...why not? Game was already over.) Except for two things: demographics and money. Those make up the rut that one foot of the IU football program is in. The Ohio State program has no other competition in that more populous state. That fact funnels more recruits and money to OSU than IU and Purdoo combined. The only way to beat that is to tilt the TV, B1G money more toward IU. Yeah, right. And all you athletes, you gotta have waaaay more offspring that will help quadruple the population and recruits in Indiana. So, my solution is more sex. Go forth for the good of Ol' IU! Get hoppin'. Just do it. PS Maybe Indiana could annex Chicago, Louisville, Dayton, and Milwaukee to increase our population. No? Nevermind. Just get out there and procreate! And cheer on IU. -

Tuttle walked off under his own power. Yay! Offensive play calling is better. Execution is better. Keep it going to Hendershot and 0! Good luck IU! -
2021 IUFB Prediction League - Week 7 vs Ohio St (H) 10/23/21 7:30pm ABC
Dave from Dayton replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Is this game a trap game for OSU? They play Penn St. next week. So, maybe...but maybe not. Who gets trapped after a bye week. OSU? Is Tuttle, who cannot make a big play or look sharp, going to have a breakout career day? Why not? Is IU going to cut OSU's pathetic defense with the institution of an interesting and original offense game plan? Well, IU could unleash the tight end. IU could put together more than 6 good plays. IU could score consistently when in the red zone. Why not? IU has traditionally played somewhat decently until midway through the 2nd half against OSU. IU is deeper so HCTA says. IU could stay with OSU until the final whistle...why not? IU could value the football. No turnovers lost today. No pick 6's. No big plays by OSU. And since there is no way for me to win at this picking the score week after week...and since I would rather pick IU to beat OSU and have that happen than anything else...well almost anything else...today... It ain't over until we say it's over!!! OSU 20 Indiana 23 (Between you and me...it might just be a trap game: IU keeps looking forward to beating purdooo!)
