Been hearing this has been going on with Vonleh
schoosier replied to NotTheReal HoosierHoopster's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I respectfully disagree as I think he is the most talented player to come out of Indiana since I. Thomas. Before him George Mcginnes. He could succeed at any offensive position he was placed at including underneath, 3 point line, as well as driving the ball which we finally figured out late in the year. He was the best rebounder I have ever seen play for IU and cleaned the glass like every rebound was his. Great shooter which was never utilized shown by his 3 pt % even though we never got to see it even when Perea or Fisher could have played the 5. He proved to be an effective driver only after Crean realized way late that was the only way to get him the ball when everyone collapsed. He was effective with both hands underneath like no one I have seen wear the candystripes. He had some learning as far as defense but he was a good shot blocker and great defensive rebounder. Underutilized is about as nice a word I can say for how he was played in one year. I will miss Noah as much or more as Cody or Vic not for his numbers compared to them, but for what could have been. This team had the talent to get to the NCAA tournament and its a damn shame they didn't with the talent of Noah, Yogi, Troy, Will and Stan including the others. The NBA sees it in an 18 year old yet we have posters/fans/alumni that have no clue just how talented he is. -

I never heard or saw a quote during the season where Noah was disappointed in only getting a measly 5 shots per game or how he was used. Only after the season did this come out. It makes me wonder what the discussions were like between Noah and Crean when he was told the news? At least a potted plant was not thrown but it was probably not amicable. Crean has no replacement so you know he was vacuum selling and Noah wasn't buying. At any rate their relationship seems strained at best; not unlike many others from this years team. -
Would you want your son to play for Beilein if your from Indiana? Look at what he's done. Ex 1. This great story about Austin Hatch and loyalty. Ex 2. Identify the better talents and focus and get them. GRob and Mcgary from the loaded 2012 class. Ex 3. Indentify fringe talents that can help your program. Spike Albrect, a quintessential Hoosier player. Ex. 4. Sign a Mr. Basketball. Zac irvin. When you also think of Izzo, Matta, Calipari, and Pitinos its easy to see how Creans recruiting would be slipping. Then add the rumors of Noah, mass transfers, drug/alchol issues and it probably spells doom for this staff and probably athletic admin. Glass will not make it because he signed off on the worst contract in school history regardless of his accomplishments.

I seriously doubt Noah would negatively recruit, but you have to look at his public comments about how he was used. He's not happy but would he go as far as to try to sway others? I would say no, but we actually had an assistant coach that did the very same thing. So anything's possible. With Noah being Creans only one and done at IU, if this turns out to be true I believe it hurts the program moving forward more than offering project bigs or mass defections. To compete and win in todays climate, you have to have some of these 1 year players coming to your program. All you have to do is look at the top programs and what they're doing. -
Parallels to Crean? SB Nation expose on SEC football bag men
schoosier replied to raorIU's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If schools are willing to create false majors to keep athletes eligible and graduate them, then there is no denying that the illegal paying of athletes by boosters or bag men is also rampant. When you have credible information from multiple sources saying Cam Newton will cost $200,000 to play and he only gets suspended for 1 day and that's it, then its easy to see where the real problem lies. Of course I'm speaking of the NCAA whose selective enforcement of their laws has created this wild west attitude towards the rules from USC, UNC to Ohio State. The SEC just does it best. Our saying here is "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying". -
Austin also was obviously trying to defuse(sic) the situation by kissing his hand then reaching out to the girl. But she wasn't having any if it. Makes me have to question what was said before the camera started filming, but I agree physically assaulting someone because you lost your temper is inexcusable for both sexes.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi thinks Crean will be Fired...
schoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I also agree but it takes us back to the question of why wait then? Is it the buyout, one last chance, or no good candidates to replace him at this point? I go with the latter and just hope Glass is already reaching out and making contacts now so that a relationship can be developed over a year and get your best man. Stevens would be the obvious choice after the long year 2 in the NBA. Glass has to also be under an immense amount of pressure because of the unbelievable contract. -
(2014) C Link Kabadyundi to TCU
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I thought I did good with Uwe. Pronounced Uvay. W as v and e prounounced ay. Its been over 20 years since he played, but I remember he developed a solid hook shot before he left. It just goes to show how actual project centers can be developed and not just rot on the bench and look good in warmups. Maybe Crean should pull out the old reel to reels and go over with Peter. There is hope and PJ needs to get healthy and find a niche to help the team. Maybe its blocking shots, rebounding or tip in but it can be done. -
Tacko Fall! 7'5" (8' wingspan!)

Are we recruiting him? Say it ain't so! -
Damn, one minute you go from your choice of sorority girls to getting b slapped by a Purdue girl in a Taco Bell. This definately shouldn't be on his highlight tape.

Uwe Blap. This is fun. I just named a project center that actually competed and played well although he had hands of stone. It can be done. -

Shortest center walkon to scholarship ever. -
If he graduates and can play immediately because of the 5th year rule, will he still have his redshirt year available and actually play 2?

(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Frank Martin is as close to Bobby Knight as anyone coaching now and got suspended for screaming the f word at one of his players during a timeout. That being said, his players love him and he has strong support instate from the high school coaches. He is a good recruiter so I wouldn't get my Hoosier hopes up. Better keep after the missing Link. -
Didn't Cal express interest in IU one of the many times it has been open? You don't hear of many of his players getting in trouble just like you don't hear of many graduating. Its an interesting conversation. I would prefer a mix of one and dones to go along with 4 year players, plus I would like our focus to be in locking up the State of Indiana's best talent. Then fill it in with DC, Chicago or midwest players and get back to hanging legitimate banners.

Why did it take so long to get in on some of these post players? Fisher has been gone since Christmas and Noah's pre draft ratings made it obvious to most and especially coaches he would be gone. Our post play will be our biggest weakness so one would think every available big we would try to be in the mix. All the while we continue to focus on 6'6" wings. Maybe Crean thinks Jurkin and Perea will be able to hold the center position down but I have serious doubts including using Devin Davis in the post. I have never understood Creans recruiting strategy, Creaning strategy, or in game strategy; but he's the captain of the ship. A fitting name may be Team Titanic. -
RIP Coach. Keep a lookout for Lacy.

This just breaks my heart as I have my own 8 year old blond beauty. I was impressed with how Mich St took this little angel into their program and made her last days very special. She will always be a part of those players and coaches.

Who would you hire to replace CTC?
schoosier replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You may be on to something with Geno and I wonder if he got an interview for the men's job. He may be at a place in his career where there is nothing left to prove at the women's game and is interested in a mens program. I would definately give him a good look if he was interested. We have done much worse with the 3 hires we have made since 1999. He is definately a great coach which should translate to any gender. -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
South Carolina needs as much help on the post as we do, but Cunningham is a wing player so why recruit him as a 4? I certainly hope we aren't because at 6'6" there is no way he could help us there. He is a Cheaney type slasher wing with a good handle and shot. If we are recruting him as a 4, I really question what our staff is thinking. He would get killed by the B1G post players. He looks to be a nice player though. -

schoosier replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I stated my top candidates wouldn't be an IU alum/player, but what if you can't get any of them? This scenario would likely play out as my choice of Stevens or Donvan would be very unlikely. I believe my second tier was Hoiberg or Marshall and here is where an ex player should be considered. I'm not sure who would be the best choice but you would have many. Alford, Woodson, Wittman, Fife, and Cheaney just to start but talk to them all. They know the culture of winning, of Indiana basketball from high schools to pro, and also the relationships from past and present players to get the job done. We have tried the others except this one(sorry Dakich doesn't count), so why not? It may work and at what risk? Very little imo. -
What Does it Mean to Play for Indiana?
schoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Never confuse IU fans and alumni of not being knowledgeable about the game of basketball. No amount of excuses(too young, lights too bright), blaming players, or sweet 16 rings will change the product on the floor that we watch and comment about. Year 6 was a complete bust anyway you look at it so it doesn't take a coaching guru to figure it out. Next year can't get here fast enough which gets us 1 year closer to what IU baskeball is all about. "Its Indiana" is all that needs to be said. -

UConn hires an ex player and comes off a tournament ban to win it all. The right hire came from their university yet a lot on here say we need to hire the opposite. UConn has 4 titles since 1999 and we are still talking about the "right coach" during the same time period. I stand by my earlier analysis of finding the right coach, and my only change in that would be an ex IU player be in the final mix. UConn did it absolutely right.
