(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Would it be correct by stating that even if Shakes commits he won't be able to sign? We have no scholarships available on paper and already one commit who, I assume, will sign and use our one and only 1 oversign B1G limit. And were still recruiting for another addition including Shake? Folks, this is what's exactly wrong with these 6 man signing classes which will be the third by my count in Creans tenure. How many seniors will we have ths year and how many last? Sheehey by my count in two years( Gordon doesn't count) and we wonder why we have no leadership and turnover issues. This will probably be the first ever year where we won't even need to have senior night. Just another reason where this coach falls woefully short on continuity in his own program. What's the good of having the same coaches every year when you're starting from square one with half your team. Someone please help me understand how signing 6 in year 7 is somehow going to help your program and the obvious perception of running off three players based on how you're still recruiting? -
My God how could he not like the culture at IU? Nice southern Indiana weather, nice IU gals and awesome academics just to name a few. You must be speaking of the basketball culture, so what about it did he not like? Was it a personal reason? Limited playing time early? I'm definately in the camp that he should have been used with Noah, Troy and Yogi. If you're gonna lose at least get the young kids experience. I would appreciate you expounding more on this.

Favorite IU BBall Dunk or Block of All Time
schoosier replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Watching a 6'9" Ray Tolbert dibble the length of the court and tomahawk slam is easily my most favorate IU dunk. I saw it again on one of those youtube mix tapes which showed a lot of great dunks by others including Cheaney and Greg Graham. Tolbert was also the best high school dunker I ever saw with Andre Morgan of Anderson HS a close second. -
Favorite IU BBall Shooting/Scoring Performance All Time
schoosier replied to rebelhoosier848891's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Woodson had a prolific game the year we won the NIT. Knights teams were so well balanced these types of performances were few and far between. He usually had so many options and all of the players were very unselfish compared to the later Bracey Wright years. Creans 2012 team was similar with I think was 5 players averaging in double figures. That team will always be my #1 talented team that didn't win it even over the 75 undefeated team or the 93 team of Henderson, Bailey, Cheaney and Grahams. -

I think all of Alfords threes against Cuse were in the first half. Smart took over in the 2nd half! -
This Started It All for Me
schoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My hope for all you young Hoosiers is to see the titles that I have witnessed from 76-87. My hope for me is that I don't have to wait another 25 years to see another one. This is the longest drought since we won our first NCAA. -
They absolutely pounded us (IIRC) Chapman's freshman year. That's what I remember and also it being played in Assembly Hall. I know we ended up playing UK at nuetral sights , but I think this started after this game. I also remember Chapman had a monster slam as I couldn't believe the hops he had. So many great players for both programs; just a damn shame we don't play now. This rivalry is the biggest in all of college basketball and coaches and AD's need to check their egos to get it done. I do think Glass and Crean tried to get it worked out though. I believe Cal just didn't want it is the reason.
-
Without checking my recollection was 88 season after Alford graduated and they beat us. Remember Smart not playing well which was consistent for his big hopes that year. Long time ago lol.
-
He was a heck of a player. I remeber he lit us up for 20+ his freshmen year in Bloomington. I had the beloved balcony seats circa 1988. Big time hops and a good jumper. Times must be very bad for him now.

(2015) JUCO PF Ray Kasongo
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree with this also as you also get to look at other players. Plus you get to know some juco coaches where even if this player can't help you maybe one down the road will. They can also scout other team's players so I think the connections could help at some point. Heck, you may even find some assistant coaching talent. Really nothing to lose imo. -

Where is my personal attack of you? Because I believe something is such affront to you as a personal attack? You telling me to grow up doesn't bother me as I consider the source. Discussing basketball is what we're doing right? What about that puts you in such discomfort? Is it the losing seasons or staying home in march? For that you have someone who gets paid much more than me; and probably yourself. Remember this started with basketball IQ. Lighten up -

Facts only hurt the ones that don't have any to back up their posts. I, my Hoosier friend, have a history of basketball behind me. They use to have a class at IU coaching basketball 101 taught by the general himself. While you won't have the priviledge of being taught by him, you may find the part regarding Hoosier heritage and basketball IQ compelling. -

You never know there's a lot of Hoosiers coaching in the pros who would love an opportunity at their alma mater. -

You may want to reread his post...stupid arrogance of some of you. Now who's trying to start an argument. I'm just stating the facts. But let's not let this get in the way of a disagreement on an Indiana basketball fan site. -

T Indiana isn't the only state with basketball IQ though. North Carolina is another one. Here's a little history lesson for you. Where did theirs come from? A man by the name of Everette Case transformed the state of NC and basketball. Guess where he came from? You're right Indiana and from Anderson where yours truly was born. Read all about him...you can google it. He was the one and only responsible for cutting down the nets among many other traditions. Just think all of tobacco road including Duke, UNC and NC State can thank a former Hoosier for their basketball IQ. Plus anyone who has ever cut down a net me included. Now, do you want to discuss any other places of high basketball IQ? UCLA? Louisville with Denny Crum? Kansas? Where else? Denying our place in history is equally as annoying as our lowered expectations. -

Rebel, great to see another poster who has actually seen real Indiana basketball. Back then great teams were an expectation every year not one of let's build toward one. Remember getting upset when we got tossed in the first round. Now, we would just be happy to make it. -

No Personal attacks, a lot of people think UK fans are arrogant. They back it up with titles; albeit they cheat. We also have titles and we dont. For us that expect more of them, well you can call it what you want. Lowering the IU IQ of the fan base goes hand in hand with lowered expectations I guess. When you're picked to finish 10 n the B1G, I guess it doesn't get any lower than that. Unless you think staying home in March is. -

#1schoosier stalker, who's twisting words now? -
You may want to reread the last sentence from this article. As long as success remains, the problem is minimal.

As I recall it was a thread regarding recruiting. We were discussing if we should sign an Indiana high school player not as highly rated vs some of these project centers that we always seem to sign. The term basketball IQ was discussed which some made fun of like it actually didn't exist. In fact it starts either by growing up in the state learning the game or by attending one of our colleges. I'm not sure where you think its spinning others words or that we are arrogant to think Indiana sets itself apart when it comes to basketball. Either way I wasn't referring to you specifically. What about that term gets your panties wadded up? -
(2015) SG LaGerald Vick to Kansas
schoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yogi graduates? Thought he had one more year. JB2 will not be a one and done. Troy maybe but I'll advised... look at Vic's progression. April and Priller...just don't see it. Davis, Holt, and Morgan I wouldn't call big men but I'm optomistic on all three. I still think we lack real size so I think our recruiting should be focused there. I will say Vick looks to be a very nice player though. Good hops, penetration and shooting although this tape is limited. I think he duplicates what we already have instead of completing a champ team. -

CC thanks for posting, but are we really going after more 2 guards? Crean should be spending his time camped out on a post or power forward's doorstep. This recruiting is just mind boggling. JB2, Stan, Johnson and Yogi will be back yet who's gonna rebound? I hope we plan on avg 125 a game cause with only guards you better score a lot of points.
