Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. The clown show continues.
-
Coming in as the mid season interim? :)
-
Probably the same as the people who missed the boarding of the Titanic.
-
Understood. But look where we are now. You always want to have a better option before firing a coach if they have some success. Not fire him, and then figure it out.
-
What rules are those? :)
-
That's the thing that stands out. The IU brand still attracted some Dudes. Unlike GA. Don't need the Lord Jesus himself. Just a competent coach who can get it done.
-
Just do it by Height.
-
So the twitter burners have mentioned some "health issues" with the team as a "reason" why they aren't playing well. I assume it's deeper than Malik's injury. Any insight?

Not going to rehash the Crean dismissal, but there were all sorts of red flags besides the sweet 16 losses which showed the program was trending down and justified the decision. He was kind of a bumbling, fumbling, dude. My understanding is he was a little "corny" and "goofy" to work with. Add the in-state recruiting issues, the "Creaning" (which is expected now with the portal), and his lack of defensive balance, off the court issues, etc., you could make a case for letting him go and trying to step up to someone better. Problem is IU spit the bit and didn't go with someone better. In hindsight, the Crean dismissal may have been a mistake. But, Tom Crean is a perfect example that even a marginal coach with the right attributes can have some success at IU. Imagine what could happen with a good to great coach. (PS: Not bashing Crean. I am grateful that he took the job when IU was facing the abyss and got us back on the map. I thought he did a very good job from where he started. Just couldn't sustain it. Definitely deserves our respect.)

I am so sick of "the high expectations" and the "fans are the problem" bull crap. People act like it's rocket science. It isn't. Successful coaches have a handful of characteristics you can model. Successful programs have the same. Create a profile and follow it. The goals and expectations are simple -- it's a numbers game. The more you make the tournament, the better your chances to advance. So get yourself into the tournament as much as possible. For the BIG10 that means what, top 7 or 8. It's bonus if you're competing top 3 for the championship every few years. But you have to get to the tourney. Once you're in the tourney, you'll win some, you'll lose some. Win 2 games and you're in the sweet 16. 1 more and you're "elite." From there anything can happen. You do it enough times with a level of consistency, the odds are in your favor to make the final 4 and beyond. If you're not stumbling, bumbling, idiot as a coach you can get this done. Heck, even Tom Crean was doing it -- just couldn't get over that hump. :)

Happy wife, happy life. :)

The "mindset" of the University, if that's what it is, is stupefying. Many posters have given you well thought out, rational, data based, reasons to make a move now (if not at the end of last year), but you don't want to hear them. Maybe you are a part of the dumbest University administration in the country.
-
Did I see a plane leaving for Boston? :)
-
Nothing like getting your a$$ beat by 30 at home.
-
Any more than Mediocre Mike? LOL.
-
Ah, look who's back. Reading is a skill. Fan displeasure, i.e.; boos, at games is a part of sports. The administration is responsible if they keep Mediocre Mike around to experience it.
-
Actually it's one poster. But the fact remains, keeping him may result in some ugly scenes inside Assembly Hall. It that happens its on the Administration.
-
In case you missed it, the fans are the problem.
-
That is not emotion. That is reality staring you in the face. Get a clue man.
-
Must have been an emotional belief, not based on facts. :)

Keep your head in the sand. Last nights game was on Peacock. Not a big audience. Nobody saw the "fire Mike Woodson" chants and the empty seats. The next two home games, Maryland and Michigan are on CBS -- big audience. How is it going to look on national TV? Bad, just bad. That will do wonders for the "long term health" of the program. Don't act like we don't know what we are talking about. Most of us have been around the block a few times. Whether it was with sports teams, businesses, and just plain old life. Many of us have hired and fired people. We know "the process." There is an old saying -- Hire slow and Fire fast. IU should take note. It's beyond time.
-
If he "cared" as you say, why wouldn't he do everything he could to get a competent coach in place? Instead he forces his unqualified buddy on us. Please, we may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.
-
My old boss had a saying -- "Business would be great without customers." You get rid of the fans and there are no expectations.
-
Dude, that is the very definition of Interim.
-
No. All we need is a competent coach who knows what he is doing. Mix the new with the old traditions. Recruit the right players. Put them in a position to succeed -- sound offense/defense schemes. With the right guy, it's actually simple (not easy). Crean was almost the right guy, but had some gaps. Archie and Woodson, not so much. But there are plenty of guys out there that won't make us look like a laughingstock that we are this morning.
