(2019) SG Romeo Langford (2.0)
Golfman25 replied to mark1981's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Look the truth is the truth. All the "projections" don't mean squat until draft time. Romeo is a talented piece of clay. He's 18 with "kid" muscles. He needs a lot of molding and growing. He's not ready for the NBA. Sure there are NBA people who think they can get him ready -- but he is every bit of 1-2 years out. Will someone take a chance -- probably. And Romeo should go -- you can't give up that kind of money. Regardless, it's on him to get better where ever he plays next season. IU and the fans need to move on to the next recruits. -
Dakich is all radio shtick. And it's BS about an "Indiana" guy. WTF does that even mean? Some farmer Brown from Kouts? How about we get the best coach available. Archie et. al. needs to just ignore it and focus on the task at hand. It's a pretty simple formula. Recruit the state. Be cool, not a ******, so as not to PO all the in state coaches. Attract the best players available -- nationwide. Sign them. Win games. Year after year compete for Big10 Title. Make runs in the tournament. Get to a Final Four, Championship game and maybe another banner. It's a numbers game -- more chances you take, you'll eventually hit one. Then go to your statue ceremony.

Well if there was such a ruckus CAM needs to kick some rears. Need to cut out the cancers. His reaction here will tell us a lot.

Ok guys, back from the ledge. It's not as bad as it looks. Lots of problems, but fixable over time. But it will take time. Before the Romeo get, did anyone think we'd be competitive this year. My observations from being at the game, up close. We are small. As in boys vs. men small. As mentioned above, Morgan isn't a "big." He's got no butt. Every other spot, we gave up 5-20 lbs. per man. Granted, a young team. But they need to get their man muscles going. Catching the ball is a problem. It's a combination of bad passes and "weak" hand strength (see above). Archie cares. You can see it on his face, in his body language. He's as frustrated as anyone. Coach Jesus could't win with this team. Everyone says, sit this guy, play that guy. But every player is woefully one dimensional. So you need to pick you poison. We can't shoot. We can't shoot. We can't shoot. (nothing you all haven't talked about all year) We have professional college basketball players throwing up air balls. When you can't shoot, the defense can sag a step without penalty. The kids you have that can drive, can't because the defense is down already. We need to go out and get a shooter or two (even is they lack some defense/athleticism). The defense has been "fixed." Look back at the Crean threads and the complete lack of defense. We'll that has been fixed (save for a key lapse here an there). Holding teams in the 50s and 60s. They are playing tough, respectable, defense. Problem is basketball is an offensive game and we have none. Team lacks leadership and identity. Is this an Archie team or a Crean team? Who is the leader -- Morgan (Crean guy, graduating), Romeo (Archie guy, going pro), or ? There where times when they just gave the ball to Romeo and said "go to it." Was not all that successful. Maybe Rob needs to step up and start leading the team, realizing both Morgan and Romeo will be gone. Need to start setting the tone for next year and following. We need to build a base before we go after "one and done" players. We need guys who will be around 3-4 years before going pro. Recruiting wise, it's an "easy" sell. Basically any skilled freshmen can come in and start. 2 starters are gone and 2 are up for grabs. Anyway, I am just rambling now.

Cupboard is bare gentlemen. We can't shoot. Are wild on our drives and just chuck the ball up. Add turnovers and bad passes. This is what you get. We have seen this the last several years. Archie needs to get some basketball players in here, pronto.

Cam was pissed early on. You're going to see a different team next year. Time to clean house.

I hate to say it, CAM needs to purge the roster. Hit the road and recruit his a$$ off. There are too many none participants on the roster. Hand the leadership role to phinissee -- he'll be around four years. -
Come on. They're playing the Washington Generals.

Making me hungry.

As much as this sucks we have a long way to go. Program has to start by being an automatic for the tournament. That leads to a few deep runs and then eventually final four shots. One player, NBA ready or not, isn't going to get us there.

Got to go at the last min. Good to see a blowout. Pretty good game with some highlights and some misses. Ran into Pitino before game and road elevator with him after. He was beaten up - tough game for their staff. And Priller got a board and a free throw. Life is complete. -

Students right now suck. Went to minn game. Nice blow out. Alumni full. Students not even close. 3/4 lower level. Balcony empty. Get to the games. Maybe Archie needs to say if the place is packed Tim Priller will start. :) -

No play. Just general instruction on offense. Pretty much what Aloha said. Crean was reckless abandon. Run and shoot, then shoot some more. Clap your hands and grab a diet coke. Archie is more methodical, defensive based. Part of that is taking some time off the clock and getting good shots, not just open shots. -

I think it was last game, they had the mic on Archie during the time out. He told the players to be patient on offense and work for a good shot. What to they do. Immediately after the time out the run down the floor and chuck up a crappy shot. No passes, no ball movement, nada. A 10 sec. possession, with no points. Tough to win with kids who don't listen. -

Old friend, sounds like I sat next to you a few times. Unfortunately, IU basketball has a big job ahead of them. I think this is still a Crean year. Sure looks like it with the turnovers and stupid shots. Archie really need to get his kids in there and start building the program. Start with getting some Indiana blood who knows the program history. A couple of consistent years and IU will be back. They still have a long legacy to build off of. -

Guys step back from the ledge. The basketball world is not ending. CAM is doing a lot more right than wrong. This too shall pass. -

Guys it's a bad roster. And they didn't play well. Miller knows what he's doing and should do a good job. Only thing I was disappointed with is not benching the starters and letting the middle and end of the bench show what they have. -

Yeah. It shows. Too many Crean era turnovers. No outside shot. One dimensional. -

Well it looks like it will be a year of struggles. But that should be expected. Team is in transition. Lots to learn yet. It's going to be a process the next few years. It was nice to see some organization on both offense and defense. It wasn't just every man for himself. Progress.
