Can Crean stay in Bloomington?
theriverpilot replied to sshoosier12's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I get what Kepner is trying to say here. Crean could go 31-0 but still be criticized by some because he's simply not Bob Knight or Brad Stevens. Some of the arguments are simply empty. Is Crean the best coach in the world or the B1G? Probably not. Sometimes that's what strong assistants are for. Is he trying to run a clean program and doing it the way we IU fans want? Yes. Is he doing it better than than Davis and Sampson? Yes Point is, with the exception of his less than stellar punishment for these latest acts, and last year's underachievers, I've been pretty happy about the direction of the program. -

Agree with you here with the exception that I didn't find Etherington a much better player than Hartman. Same caliber players IMO. -
Can Crean stay in Bloomington?

I'm confused by your statement "How many former IU players under Crean came to his defense with what happened. Zero by my count". If I recall, Vic and Jordy showed support. Also Tracy Smith voiced strong support. Seems Crean's strongest critics were Dakich, Doyel, and a few posters here. Everyone else showed disappointment in the players actions. -
Stephen Zimmerman down to IU & UK???

You almost had me until you threw the Knight reference in. Because Crean likes to choke, head butt, and kick players or intimidate anyone that lets him. Got it. Knight was a helluva coach but zero tolerance had a different meaning for him. Now if one more kids fails a drug test, gets arrested, etc...then yeah, it's on Crean and he's gone, but you can't even call this an apples-to-apples situation here. C'mon. -

Stop with the fire Wilson nonsense

I usually refrain from coaching change recommendations, but I'm watching the Northern Illinois game and I've always liked Rod Carey. I thought I read somewhere that he had Indiana roots too. I might be wrong there. -
I'm strangely nervous what your Phoebe Cates scene is going to be.

Still LOL at Mr. Creanhand!

You nailed it. It's the mods that make it better in my opinion too.

Reb, were you on Peegs before? Say a year or so ago? I remember a feisty but positive poster on there that "sounded" just like you but got ran off. Either way, glad you found a home here! -

Curious that we made PTI yet I don't remember anything about Syracuse or UNC on the show lately. -
My experience on Peegs was that if you weren't a cronie of the OTF group, then you weren't anything. Fickle group for sure. It just got old. All trolling and no good info.

I hope UK loses all if their games this year! :-)

6'4" Guard Nick Zeisloft joins Hoosiers

Just watched the video of him addressing the media. I like this kid. He certainly seems to have a great attitude. I really liked his response regarding former player's comments. -
That shot always cracks me up

Reading through some of the Twitter feeds, seems to be a consensus that this was a much better press conference than the other day. The only "media" person that seems displeased still is Dakich. Parrish even commented how Crean went directly to Doyel after and shook hands. At least it sounds like a step in the right direction. I haven't listened to it yet though, just going off of these feeds. -
Same could almost be said of Peegs. It's nice to find a good site to discuss all IU and not be shouted down because your post count was below 100

Stan and Troy suspended for failed drug tests..
theriverpilot replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm with you here. Most deserve a chance to redeem themselves. We've all made mistakes and probably done the same things at that age. I did. The only difference, and the BIG difference, is when I made my mistakes, the "entire world" didn't know about it. This is where they need to learn the difference. Know your situation, who and what you represent, and be mindful of it. -
This kid probably should re-evaluate his motives here. He might want to take note from Troy and Stan what it feels like to be on the bad side of a passionate fan base.
-
I totally agree with you here. I think the worst overreaction to do is fire Coach Crean. Dead on with he can't be with them 24/7 and that the punishment to Stan and Troy should be more harsh. But how many times can you push the RESET button on the program without doing irreversible damage?

This situation sucks but not sure anyone is ready to go back to 2008.
