OFFICIAL: Ferrell returns for Senior Season

No announcement tonight per press release. Due to happenings at IU with death of student. No announcement from Ruth Chris's. Announcement could still come out just in a different manner
  2. I can 100% believe that.  I had some classes with some of the players on the team and it was  ridiculous what the professors would do for these athletes to keep their grades just high enough to keep them on the court. I understand that just because I have not heard it happening does not mean that it doesn't happen.
  3. Being from VU I can tell you that there isn't a single player on that team that does not party and smoke weed.  However, that is the culture of this entire campus.  At VU the majority of the students come from rough neighborhoods and have never known any different.  Like I said, it is the culture of the campus as a whole, not saying he is a great kid or a bad kid.  Just stating some facts. Maybe he does it just to fit in with everyone else here.  Maybe not.  I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions based on a few comments from kids down here.  Do your own research or make your own assumptions based on your own thoughts and feelings.  He is a good, high ability player that could potentially help.  If the off the court issues were as bad as some have said, after an offseason we just had I would like to believe that Crean would try and stay away from those types of "bad kids" as much as possible.  Just my two cents.   I have seen this kid play on many occasions over the last two years, he can shoot, he can jump, and he can finish.  Lots of athletic ability.

    (2016) C Thon Maker

If I had my pick of an assistant, my thinking would be it should be someone with some defensive mindset background.  Who cares what our offense is, if we can't stop anyone then we aren't going to win many games anyway

    #IHSAA Boys/Girls State Tournament

I agree came out tight and nervous and couldn't get any shots to fall from the outside which is our game plan.  This was my first time seeing a public school vs private school 3A game in person and it just makes me believe more that these private schools need their own class.  How are rural southern indiana school expected to compete with Indy private schools that can "recruit" kids to their program? doesn't seem fair in my opinion, oh well, good luck to Barr-Reeve!

    #IHSAA Boys/Girls State Tournament

I am here!!!! What a weekend! Southport here we come! I hope anyone in the area this Saturday comes out to watch, this team is the epitome of southern Indiana basketball! Go Alices!
  8. I actually go to Vincennes University and have watched several of their games.  When he is on, he is pretty darn good. However, keep in mind they are also against lower level JUCO talent.  The team was undefeated until the championship game of the district 16 (I think) tournament which is basically like a conference tournament. The winner gets an automatic bid, VU lost but still got into the big JUCO National tourney, a 9 seed. Back to Mulder.  He is a good outside shooter, great on ball defender, when he wants to, quick first step and athletic, more than Stan.  With all of that said, I don't know how quickly he could be a contributor on next years team with so many others in front of him at his position.  He is a competitor so maybe he could force others around him to be better? I don't know just a thought

    #IHSAA Boys/Girls State Tournament

Not a problem! Lots of great teams in the Southern part of the state.  Just looked and Lincoln now has 71 sectional championships and are the number two school in terms of total sectional titles only behind Kokomo with 74. I believe Lincoln won something like 21 straight at one point.  That was way before I was born but a LONG tradition of winning!

Don't forget the Vincennes Lincoln Alices! One of the top schools in all of the STATE for most sectional titles! Easier Washington Sectional without a Zeller running out there!

(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

I can see Priller and April, that was not the hard part in my opinion.  The hard part is finding that third one...I think Davis comes back, I do not think the NBA is a real option for anyone outside of Yogi (which i still do not see happening), the final option is another transfer.   Here is another question, is it possible for Z's scholarship to be dropped and make him a walk on? I've never heard of that happening and no clue if it is even legal, just throwing stuff out there for discussion.

(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

Here is my question, it may have been answered earlier but I don't remember reading it, what happens IF Bryant does commit? We are already over-signed by two, adding him makes three. Where will we lose three players at? Or which players will we lose to be back to even? Thoughts?

    Pressure Defense

The 1-3-1 could be extremely effective for this team with the makeup of players that we have.  In my opinion, I would put JBJ at the top, not our best on ball defender but a little length and great basketball IQ to jump the passing lanes.  Put Rojo and Yogi on the wings, quick guards that can play on ball defense, then I would put Hanenr at the free throw line, lots of length, able to disrupt passing lanes and challenge those elbow to elbow jumpers and then i would put Troy on the baseline, athletic enough to get from corner to corner and has the ability to rebound from there.  In the past I have seen Hartman there, no offense to Hartman cause I am a big fan of his effort and everything but he is not the best suited to be on the bottom when he has to cover ground and then try and rebound.  For those who are visual people, here is my best shot at "drawing" it up:                           JBJ   Yogi              Hanner            Rojo                                                Troy

    Pressure Defense

This is my first actual, contributing post on this site, please do not eat me alive, not yet at least  :D   In my opinion, a pressure defense is reliant on more than just having the fast guards and athletic big men to make it work. It is about smarts and understanding angles, when to trap, when not to trap, etc.  I think we do have the guards and depth at the guard position to put some light pressure on the guard bringing the ball up the court, however, I do not trust Troy one-on-one defending someone, he takes too many unnecessary chances, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.  Hanner is not smart enough defensively yet to be able to be our last line of defense. I agree with previous posts about needing a shot blocker and needing a higher defense IQ.    We cannot expect our guards to be able to pressure other team's guards full court, one-on-one if they can't guard someone in the half-court and we can't expect this team to be able to execute some sort of zone pressure when most times on our 2-3 zone or 1-3-1 zone defenses, our players are out of position.     I think this team needs to do something else rather than going man-to-man then switching to zone or the other way around.  Throw a wrinkle at teams this late in the season could be a key to winning those close games.  Teams know our tendencies at this point in the season, we need to change those slightly to gain an edge.
