IU Men's Soccer 2017 Recruiting Class
Defenserocks28 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Thank you for putting this all together! I'm a bit out of the loop with IU soccer unfortunately. How does our recruiting class rank? And is it addressing most of our deficiencies? -
Same as me, except one extra year of Davis. I took a "victory lap"

For me, this isn't about one game. The same problems that kill every IU Crean Coached team reared their ugly heads...again...just as they have at IU for almost a decade now. I'm just tired of seeing turnstile defense, a lack of half court offense, substitutions patterns making little sense, being unable to take advantage of size down low, and no flow on offense unless we are running. I'm sure we'll get it together, be top 3 in BIG, and then, get destroyed in the Sweet Sixteen. If people are happy about that, then so be it. So this is completely anecdotal, but I feel applies to quite a bit of our fan base. Myself and about 10 other buddies used to watch IU basketball religiously. Through the Mike Davis years, to Sampson, through most of the Crean era. Of those 10, only one bothers watching the games anymore. And no, it's not about getting older and a lack of free time. It's that, they are tired of watching poorly coached teams. It's the same issues every year, and when you know the script and how the story will end, there's not much reason to go along for the journey. And that sucks. People have been talking about MSU. Yes, they have losses and don't look good at the moment, but it's an Izzo team and you know that team will come together and grow and potentially make the Final Four. And that'll be a fun journey for their fans to take. Frustrating at times, but who knows how it'll end. For us, given almost a decade of Crean, get ready for a Sweet Sixteen loss involving poor defense, random acts of jumping with the ball and no passing lanes, turning it over 20+ times a game, and awkward lineups.

Well...another poorly coached game. Same defensive issues as every Crean coached team. Same drive and jumps. Same lack of half court offense. Same lack of touches for big men in the paint. Yes, it's just one loss. But heck, we are almost a DECADE in with this guy and it's the same problems every year. I'm done with Crean. Hopefully Steven's is getting bored with the NBA.

That church scene was probably my favorite movie scene of 2015. Holy cow it was fantastic.

Glad Nova won. Like...really glad. I will say, I felt UNC got shafted on some foul calls, but at the same time the "charge" call on Jenkins was BS which gave him his fourth. Overall, I believe the refs let Nova play (except for Jenkins) more than UNC. But whenever Jenkins was on the floor, Nova was dominating the game (at least it seemed like it). Thus, it all equals out. A couple bogus calls on a lot of UNC players and some on Jenkins to force him out. Bad calls impacting the game rather equally. Also, Nova was definitely fouled on UNC when it was 72-71. That was a foul despite what all the booing in the stadium would have you believe. -
Gotcha. Thanks!

I apologize if this question has already been asked. Currently, when I go to any message thread, it takes me to the last comment posted. On the old version of BtownBanners, it would take me to the last post I had viewed (not the last post in the overall thread). Where do I go to change that setting?

I don't know if I'd say those penalties are similar. Loss of ALL scholarships AND a 3 year postseason ban would kill UNC for close to a decade. Louisville would be able to bounce back in a year or two.

Oh, yea, he's definitley one of the 5 best. Has to be incredibly frustrating for their fan base though. With the amount of top seeds they have gotten you would probably anticipate at least one more title. Villanova is good, and this is by no means a bad loss. But for every Nova, there is a Northern Iowa, Bucknell, etc. Heck, there's more of those probably. -

I wonder what Kansas fans think of Self at this point. I mean, he's gotten them a championship, they are swimming in Big XII titles, but at some point, they need to make it back to the final four. It seems every year they are 1 seed and get eliminated early. -

I thought that was a good call on Graham. He completely took out that Nova player. Just because it's a loose ball doesn't mean you can slide directly into the legs of Nova player who is actually possessing the ball (although barley). -

I didn't realize how much of a punk Brice is. His stare down of Colin Hartman yesterday, after some random foul in the first half was ridiculous. He could have easily been Td up for it. -
Agreed. This is probably an overly optimistic statement, but we have a chance at a title next year if 1) Both JBJ and Troy take defending seriously 2) Troy plays under control. If Troy does not come back, then we will be a solid team, compete for a BIG title, and get bounced by, or in, the sweet sixteen. If he comes back and finally evolves to what the fanbase has been hoping for the last three years (aka, Oladipo light), then we have a shot at a championship. I maybe crazy though. EDIT: I should add, we have a shot if EVERYONE comes back (TB specifically)
-
Agreed. It'll be interesting to see if Crean adjusts. We should be able to hurt teams down low, but Crean has never had teams that are consistently good at getting it down low (Zeller had to create his own opportunities like 80% of the time). Next year will be a great barometer of whether Crean is capable of evolving as a coach (honestly, this year is still up in the air for me. He made adjustments when JBJ went down, but would he have ever made the necessary adjustments otherwise?).
