Auburn beat them 49-7. GSU looks to be down this year. This will be interesting as a comparative score against a common opponent to gage IU versus Auburn. -

I can't believe Debord. They made no effort at all to get a 1st down. That just sucks. That is a fundimental mistake. -

The players know the targeting rule. Why didn't Gooch lower his head ? -
I am always too optimistic , but the bowl game against Utah makes me somewhat more confident. I think the defense will be fine and Lagow now has another season under his belt and should be improved. So I think 7-5 is quite possible.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO NORTH CAROLINA'S NCAA VIOLATIONS???
Gahoosierfan replied to Naismith's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Here is a key part of the ESPN article referenced above : Sankey's letter also details a new timetable of completion for the oft-delayed case. UNC must respond to the latest charges by May 16. The NCAA enforcement staff then has until July 17 for its own response. Sankey wrote that his panel will hear the case in August with "anticipated" dates of Aug. 16 and 17. Rulings typically come weeks to months later. The focus of the case is independent study-style courses misidentified as lecture classes that didn't meet and required a research paper or two in UNC's formerly named African and Afro-American Studies (AFAM) department. They featured significant athlete enrollments and typically high grades. -
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO NORTH CAROLINA'S NCAA VIOLATIONS???

Here is a very interesting article about an NFL players agent that has now been convicted of paying UNC football players in 2007 while they were still in school. I don't know if the NCAA will reopen this investigation or not, at the least it should influence the current academic cheating case. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/unc/article145007249.html -
So what is the incentive to being a clean program?

UNC just missed the deadline to respond to the latest Notice of Allegations. I haven't seen any reasons given for not responding. They are definitely stalling. The Raleigh News Observer recently had an article about the situation and they ended the article stating that UNC is definitely going to get harsh penalties. They are the ones that broke the cheating scandal originally. -

Here is a really good article by the NY Times about UNC cheating. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/31/sports/ncaabasketball/north-carolina-final-four-cheating-fake-classes.html?_r=0 -

I don't think UNC will get away with their transgressions. Their arrogant response to the NCAA infractions committee didn't go over well. So sometime in 2017 I believe sanctions and probably forfeitures will be announces. http://www.wralsportsfan.com/unc-again-faces-ncaa-extra-benefits-charge-in-academic-case/16363327/ -

I feel a lot better now than I did when I heard the Crean hiring announcement 9 years ago. I definitely think he has a lot of potential and can lead us out of the wilderness. He can make this a consistent top twenty and usaually a top ten team.
-
Why would he even want that job ?
-
I remember when Crean was hired. I was not in any way pleased. I thought he was a weak hire and I just hoped for the best. Nine years later I sure hope I don't feel that way again.
-
I respect Steve Alford and appreciate what he did at IU. That said I don't care for him as a coach. I think he would be a mistake. We don't need an IU guy. We need the best available coach with a proven track record period. Bad ADs in the past have made horrible choices. I am talking about Doninger and Greenspan. This is a defining moment for Glass. He was underwhelming in his non-search for a new football coach. He has to get this right. IU can move up in the B10 or continue to lag behind. I hope the trustees are watching carefully and stay involved.

Chris Mack has put together a pretty interesting resume. Back in the sweet sixteen again.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
Gahoosierfan replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I have from time to time checked the OKC Oklahoman newspaper to see if there are any rumors about Donovan and haven't seen anything. I wonder if there is really any chance of getting him. -
Read this and tell me Glass wasn't under tremendous pressure to fire Crean . Glass knows where his paycheck comes from . He would have risked his job if he hadn't done the right thing. http://indianaeconomicdigest.com/main.asp?SectionID=31&SubSectionID=77&ArticleID=87414

I am very uneasy about Glass. He was forced into firing Crean. He bungled the situation with Wilson and the hiring of Allen. No national search. He just ducked and did the weakest thing he could do. It reminds me of his predecessors hiring of Lynch and Davis. He is basically a bean counter. No real sports knowledge. I don't see him a an elite AD. He is way down the list in the B10. I am holding my breath and hoping he doesn't blow this hire.
-
I emailed a very civil message to the trustees mailbox. I didn't rant or threaten. I just pointed out what the consequences of keeping Crean would do to the IU basketball program.

I dislike Fred more and more all the time. He hasn't really done much for IU. I know about the building projects, but that was all due to the Board of Trustees.
