08/31 12:00PM ET Indiana vs Ball State (@Lucas Oil Stadium) CBSSN

Penix was disappointing so far. Maybe he can redeem himself in the second half. The defense has looked pretty bad playing a second division MAC team. Tackling is awful. The running game has been non-existent and I think Allen has been outcoached. From what I see so far there won't be a bowl. -

I think IU football will be better this year if they don't lose too many key players to injury. IU is notorious for slow starts. I hope the defense can hold BSU until the offense gets into a good rhythm. -

You are wrong as far as I understand it. The board is made up of nine trustees, and its business is overseen by six officers. Three trustees are elected by alumni, and the remainder are appointed by Indiana's governor. The board meets six times a year on IUcampuses around the state. -

I think the root problem with athletics and academics at IU always starts with the Board of Trustees. They are mostly appointed by the governor and are by definition political animals that have sucked up to the right politician. Few have any real competencies in administering a multi-billion dollar university. Until the people of Indiana demand better it will never change. -
2020 IUFB Class Ranking

This will be Coach Allen's third year. It will also be his freshmen and sophomores. It is time for some real progress. No more excuses. -
2020 IUFB Class Ranking
Gahoosierfan replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I am pretty discouraged by this ranking. I think there are about 65 power five conference members and it looks like IU is nearly last place. Are we making any headway at all towards respectability? -
Indiana Academics, etc

I voted for him. It is high time for new blood on the board of trustees. There are too many that have been there too long and they are deadwood. -

Mercer sure didn't have them ready to play. -
IU has the nation's 15th ranked recruiting class.

Why don't the decent schools in the NCAA fire Mark Emmert? These schools have to be in the majority.
-
IU will have to be a threat from 3 pt range. They will have to have a center that can dominate.

It seems like there is a tremendous amount of dissatisfaction all across the country with the NCAA on enforcement issues. Yet Mark Emmert is still there. Why don't conferences do something about it? -

It is too bad the BOT is so political. I question the competence of most of them. -
VU (33-2) will play for the national championship today in Hutchinson KS. They will play Ranger TX. It will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. https://www.wzdm.com/2019/03/22/blazers-advance-to-njcaa-national-title-game/

Vincennes wins the national title 87-77 over Ranger TX.

I think IU suffers from a structural problem with governance. The BOT is mostly appointed by the governor. That means you get a lot of political suck-ups running a multi-billion dollar enterprise. And I think the results show it. -

I don't know where I read it, but about 3 weeks ago I saw an article about Glass and the trustees. One of them asked him about the football program and said they had 1 winning season in the last 25 years. Glass, of course, tried to shift the conversation to the winning minor sports teams. -

I can't really feel any excitement at all for the NIT. -

Public perception is very important and IU has a very poor reputation around the country. IU football compared to all schools in the power five is probably close to last place all time. And the athletic department deflects every time football and basketball failures are mentioned and begins to talk up water polo and rowing. That is the spin. It takes the spotlight off the revenue sports that IU does so poorly in. -
It is now known simply as Ft Wayne or Purdue Ft Wayne.

This is incredibly embarrassing for the Big Ten.

The refs called a lot of invisible fouls today. That happens and you just have to live with it. Archie couldn't hide his frustration with his team's free throw shooting. I'll bet they hear about it the whole Christmas break.

Per Rabjohns McRobbie to blaim for lack of athletic success
Gahoosierfan replied to Aaron's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If IU wants to move up in academic standings, the way to do it is simple. Be much more selective in admissions. Basically, anyone can get into IU. Compare that to UNC, UVA, UC Berkley, and any other Big10 schools. At IU it has always been the goal of the trustees and administration to make Bloomington have one of the largest enrollments in the country for a single campus. This equals larger budgets and more dollars to control for the people in charge. Academics are secondary and athletics a distant third. -
IU vs Maryland 11/10/18 Noon BTN

Well I guess Allen gets one more year and then Glass gets to hire another IU assistant or a MAC coach.
