The new "chamber" looks pretty good I think. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

It sounds like he has moved and doesn't have Internet at his new location and can only post when he takes the bus to the nearest public library to log on and post. Which means he could be back at some point I guess but the site is at least bearable now without him and there are some informed posters there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I can completely agree with what you said. It was just one game and there are many factors at play, just the one thing that jumped out at me was that at one point I really thought I could be watching a current Crean coached game and didn't like that. I will say the execution was better but the style was too familiar. I think he will be a really good coach but not sure if he'll ever win a NCAA championship. He may consistently be in the tourney and make some runs, just not sure he'll get over hump. But, I could be wrong. My list, which can change, currently is as follows: Stevens (reportedly has already said no) Donavon Wright Marshall Few Bennet If it gets past that list then: In no particular order S Miller A Miller F Martin C Holtman C Collins B Drew C Mack Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I watched the Dayton game last night and while it was one game (I'll give it another game or two) I was not impressed. At one point I really thought I was watching a Crean coached game. Offense looked shockingly similar in design. It was better executed than IU normally does but still not thrilled with it. Defense was ok but not spectacular. Overall just seemed marginally better than what we have with a very similar style (which I don't like). Don't get me wrong though, I will take him over Crean but so far he would be down the list. I will watch more games as tournament approaches and give him more of a chance but was not that impressed after one game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I know this is slightly off topic but I'm worried about HTD. There is only 1 thread started by him now on the main page of that site. I think he might have finally lost it.

Serious question. Can someone please explain to me why everyone seems to be so into Archie Miller? I admit, I have not watched him coach or if I have I do not remember anything about it and I don't hear much about him other than on this site so I am curious as to what it is? Again, serious question, looking for information from those who know more about him.

I don't know any other IU coach who has ever acted that way, absolutely awful................oh wait Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I agree that with all that has been said about Stevens, but if you are Glass, you have to make a public plea to Stevens and make him say publicly that he does not want the job, if nothing else, to settle the fan base or they will be calling for your head and speculating on if Stevens was contacted or not. Stevens is a pipe dream, and sounds like he has said no, but you have to make that public push and prove to everyone that you tried. It's the only thing that will get everyone over it at this point. There has never been a more clear cut #1 choice for any hire as much as this one so you have to make the reason it doesn't happen transparent.

Not to mention a Sweet 16 to a Mid Major could be the equivelant of final fours to a major program. I like him because I like the style he plays, he passes the eye test in every game I have watched them play and he constantly is getting the most out of his teams. Personally, I think you put a guy like that in a major program with major talent and he excels big time. He is still my number one choice after the dream candidates.

I think Jones will be just fine, he just needs to settle in and work on his shot. Also, it wouldn't hurt if he was put in better situations than he is. He can't be out their as the 1st or 2nd option at this point. The game hasn't slowed down enough for him yet to be put in that role (partially due to lack of quality playing time, can't get a rhythm only playing in 1-2 minute spurts). He needs to be in with the game with any combination of 2 between, Blackmon, Rojo, Bryant/Davis (both Bryant and Davis can't count as the 2, need at least one of the guards with him) and then let him play for 5-6 minutes at a time (unless he is just completely screwing up). After a minute or two or three and once he settles in and is playing well, you can bring in subs and make him the 2nd option or 1st option if he is playing really well for small spurts to get or keep his confidence up. Again, just goes back to not understanding substitutions at a high level program with 7-10 highly skilled basketball players. Quick tangent, but when you have 7-10 highly skilled basketball players, you have to use them differently then you would if you have 1-3 highly skilled players and a bunch of hustle guys or average college players like you would at a lower level school. You also have to have a feeling for the game and who can do what in certain situations. Tangent over. -

Taking a piece of your post. I think this is strictly due to Crean's style and program. Let me explain, I have seen it in multiple freshmen. There are a few exceptions and I have a theory on that as well. First, On Cujo and the freshman slump. I feel that our incoming sharp shooting freshman or at least highly capable shooters in terms of pure shooting ability, are hurt by our strength and conditioning program. When a shooter comes in and is so used to shooting under certain conditions and muscle repetition, once they start adding on muscle mass and conditioning, it throws off that shot for a while. Most High School programs do not have a Strength program anywhere near what college (IU esp.) has and it can be a dramatic change. Then, when you start getting into the heart of the season where your body starts to wear down. Shots start coming up short so you over compensate and then they are off all together and your confidence plummets. Then as a freshman, you don't have a long enough leash to gain that confidence back in game play. We saw it with Hulls, Watford, Yogi, Blackmon, Johnson, and Cujo. They start improving their Sophomore year because they have had all off season to work on their shot with their muscle make up. Some exceptions to this could include OG, Oladipo, Zeller, Vonleigh and others as they were already pretty strong coming in or they developed their shot more so after already adding the "freshman" strength increase. Again, this is just my opinion. Facts may prove me wrong but I've seen it year in and year out. -
Maybe if he is winning but if he is winning, would we want to get rid of him? Unless he won a NC here, if he doesn't produce, I don't think anyone would be against getting rid of him at that point. I just think what people are hung up on is the "possibility" of him being great at IU and they aren't going to believe he could fail until they see it with their own eyes. He's actually probably more likely to fail given his history and the expectations that would be on him due to who he is but I'd still take all of that over what we have now. Regardless of feeling about him, he is a better coach than what we have, I'm not sure he is the one to take us to the promise land though.

Prediction League RESULTS Thread

Wow, no one scored over 90 and that's with a Win and not a loss. -
The upside of trading Crean for Alford would be, I don't believe he'd be any worse than Crean and if he didn't work out here, we could finally put to rest all of those fans out there that want him so bad. Everyone would be able to move on and could unite the fan base. Or he could succeed. He's not at the top of my list, but seems to me a win win either way.

I think you and I were right there together. No one wanted to believe what we were saying. I wish the old site was around so I could see some of my old posts. I feel like I've been saying the same thing since season 1. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

UK hired Gillespie (sp?) and Tubby. Duke hasn't hired a coach since becoming a blue blood, UCLA has hired a few similar to Crean. Edit: I'm late to the party as I see my post has already been discussed, just catching up. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Those are all great suggestions, I'm going to lose it if I actually see a sign in the crowd that says any of those. LOL -
I really hope that when Crean goes, HTD will be ok. But having said that, he makes that site unbearable! I get pissed every time I try to read his posts. I get loving IU but I just had to leave the site because it was over whelming.

I don't think it would be impossible, I think the reason it doesn't happen is because its a power 5 conference and the coaches have been fairly stable in the conference. You're only going to leave a B1G school to take a high level "elite" job if you are leaving on your own account and those bottom teams in the B1G haven't really produced any top notch coaches in a long time. Last B1G coach I can think of that left for a better job is Bill Self to Kansas. Collins is doing things with Northwestern that have never been done, he is going to get an opportunity for a big time program soon if he continues the path he is on. Penn State, Rutgers, Northwestern (Prior to Collins), Minnesota, Iowa (except maybe Alford and IU was a remote possibility to get Alford), and Nebraska haven't really produced any top coaches and are more likely to hang on to average coaches for longer or get rid of bad coaches more often. Teams like Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Purdue, and IU tend to be destination jobs. Wisconsin, not sure where to put them but I don't see good coaches leaving their to go to a "bigger" program. So while it is rare, I think its more due to the nature and dynamic of the conference then anything else. Also, its worth noting that someone, I believe in this thread somewhere, mentioned Izzo was interested in the IU job previously when it was available and if the interest was mutual at that time, I don't think him being at Michigan St would have been an obstacle.

If we are expecting the thinnest crowd of the year, I wish we would find a way to make a statement with it. Not sure what that may be and I wouldn't want it to be taken against the players necessarily, but something!
