Maybe I’m wired to like state but hosting basketball events without keeping/sharing stats is weird

In the early season, marquee non-conference games, I think you see something like this: TJD 30 Race 28 X 30 JHS 25 Geronimo 23 Bates 20 Kopp 15 Galloway 15 Reneau 14 I’m optimistic about the other two frosh, especially Banks, who everyone mentions at press availabilities. So I can imagine he gets a look even in those big games, and if things go well, he’s eating into someone’s time. The other flaw in my methodology is, of course, every scholarship player will get opportunity in real games. But trying to suss out average minutes for guys who will play 20 minutes some nights and get DNP-CDs some other nights is hard to fit into a 200 min average.

Has anyone written about how quickly we got into the thick of the DHS sweepstakes?

Yeah the ~70th percentile or better outcomes for those two are good enough I don’t want to type them out for fear of getting anyones hopes up

Looks like a plus wingspan and strong build — can probably be and guard a college 3 even if he doesn’t grow any more. Wonder if IU’s staff and/or his HS/AAU coaches anticipate he gets to 6’6” or 6’7” before he’s done growing.

(2025)- Trent Sisley to INDIANA

Plus I don’t know the Kaufman was an IU fan. And Archie had IU in a tough spot once he finally decided -

Maybe…think geography matters, and Dad saying openly they’re IU fans matters too -

There’s something really strange about taking a job at a place like IU and then acting like you don’t care about the legacy. -

Yes, you can see good signs for a few places, he’s guarded. -

Maybe not a surprise, but conclusions from the mostly positive view of Davis and Crean vs. the cold view of Sampson and Arch: 1. You actually DON’T have to be an “IU guy” if you care about IU’s history and tradition, and 2. you win without egregious NCAA violations. Now of course Woody seems to be doing both while also being an IU legend, which is a cherry on top to many. -

I don’t mean to get anyone’s hopes up but my between-the-lines read here — what it sounds like is important — is good for IU. -
(2023) CG DeShawn Harris-Smith to Maryland

Maybe both are having a nice summer -
I’ll guess Kaiser, though if we were competing I’d say Sisley. No insight, except he’s from an openly pro-IU household, lives nearby, and has an offer…if he likes what IU has to offer I could see him wrapping it up. (Could make a similar case for Haralson, with a brother at IU, but I think that’s less of a sure thing at this point.)

(2023) - PG Gabe Cupps to O$U via Indiana

Demo and I posted at the same time but I guess what I’m saying is: can we get LBJ and Bronny to come watch some game at SSAH when the Lakers play at the Pacers or something? -

I know it’s common knowledge that Gabe’s father, Brook, is his HS coach. Has anyone pointed out that when he played with the North Coast Blue Chips his coaches are his father and the father of his teammate, Bronny James? I know if his LeBron connection but has not realized the dads coached together. -
I would guess — and the credible “not done” chatter suggests — they want to get to 18. In hoops, that’s easy: three protected double plays, the other 14 teams once. In football, you play your three protected games annually, plus six others, and you play everyone (plus one repeat) every 3 years.

I think it’s 1. good for the B1G, 2. Good for IU, and 3. funny, so I’m for it.

Kokomo Monster (2024) - C Flory Bidunga to Kansas

Correct. Probably worth maintaining a relationship in case things change IMHO -
The Michigan noise was all from the player’s side. I know less about the UL situation, but can imagine it would’ve made some sense to take the risk there, in a transition year, more so than UM.

Pretty nice gym, too. For all the hype and criticism, it sure doesn’t seem like Emoni’s at fault. Good luck to him. I thought Louisville was an interesting potential fit: transition season, not a ton to lose if it doesn’t work in year one, at least. If it did work, there’s some mutual upside. At one point it seemed like a foregone conclusion, and I’m curious what happened there.

I’d love to play UK, and maybe I’m in the minority here, buuuut…I don’t hate the status quo. No need to throw Cal a bone, occasionally we play in the tournament, and IU can build a nice schedule without UK. If Kenny Payne wants a couple years to get ready for a home-and-home series, we’ll wait.

IMO Geronimo is a lock for either conference 6th man of the year or an all-conference team. Occasionally a guy makes both.

B1G Standings Predictions for 2022/2023
lillurk replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was shocked PU never really tried a Hillis/Furst/three guards look last year to see if it would shore up the defense. Obviously it has some flaws — not a good plan against Kofi or Dickinson, for example — but part of their problem on defense was the C tandem could be exploited if you got them switched onto guards. I know they have some big project backup C as usual but I doubt he’ll be ready for the full backup role. So I wonder if we’ll see something like that this year in spurts. -
B1G Standings Predictions for 2022/2023
lillurk replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I did a first pass at my sheet of every conference game for every team. I reserve the right to change this but as of today, 6/21/22, here’s how it shook out: 1. IU 16-4 2. Illinois 15-5 3. UM 14-6 *t-4. Purdue, UW, OSU 11-9 **7. Rutgers 10-10 **8. Iowa 10-10 **9. MSU 10-10 10. PSU 11-9 11. Maryland 7-13 ***12. Northwestern 6-14 ***13. Minnesota 6-14 14. Nebraska 4-16 Tiebreaks: *Wisconsin beat Purdue but lost to OSU, and Purdue beat OSU, so absent other info they all tie with the same record at 4th. **Rutgers has the tiebreaker over MSU, split with Iowa, and Iowa split with MSU in my projections, thus the rank within the 10-10 teams ***NW won the only matchup between them and Minny.
