I think we should be talking about this? -
(2025) - PG Mikel Brown, Jr.
lillurk replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Appears he turns 18 in April so he would not be especially young for the ‘24 class. Anyone know if he started as a ‘24? -
Listen, I’ll feel a lot better about winter basketball doldrums if we’re consistently winning 7, 8, 9 games a year in football.
-
Yes, would love a CBB game again. Probably buying a current-gen system just to play the CFB game!
-
Unfortunately I think they’re still quite strong — don’t have it handy but someone compared the IU/KU bball game to a concurrent bowl and the football numbers were quite a bit higher. If I recall it wasn’t huge brands or anything, either, just like a meaningless bowl game.

These two, plus UVa, would be better B1G fits than SEC ones. FSU’s ACC GOR lawsuit shakeout will also impact non-football Notre Dame sports…would not be totally shocked if the outcome is a 24 team B1G with those additions on down the road.

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

At least personally, I would say my suggestions in the very post you’re quoting and elsewhere in the thread imply I do not think this about Gunn and Sparks. I’ll partially defend them: both those guys have swung wins this year against high-major teams. The issue is consistency, and playing within oneself. Banks, I think, is basically already there, or nearer than these other two -
There was some reporting over the weekend that he and another candidate not currently on staff had been asked to consider it. I believe WDRB or the athletic had it

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

Yeah the defense hinges on: playable rim protector 5, either Ware or non-Queen new guy, and how ready is Newton to be ++ on that end without being a minus on offense. If he can’t be that then you probably need to find a Chase Audige-type. IMO you can find those types of players in the portal more easily than some offensive fulcrums. -
(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

So if you have Trey, Liam, MM, Malik, and Queen, plus a bench of Cupps, Newton/Gunn, Banks, and Sparks, that’s a pretty good baseline on both ends with a clear role for a 20 mpg rim protector. Mayyyybe an additional 2/wing. -
They don’t play again until 1/3…I kinda assume they wait until after Christmas for his sake and the players’, letting them enjoy the break. You’d still have about a week of practice with the interim if you did that.

I have the same guess: efficient offense from the tip in game 1, where’s the defense. Ware keeps showing up in 1st round mocks, so I’d think he’s going going gone, but would guess every rotation player with eligibility is back. The exception there might be in the guard rotation, as Demo has suggested. -

Rewatched the Ware smitty-to-skyhook…as Ware starts to work Reed, Walker stands up and says something to KW. I’m guessing just encouragement, or maybe that the double’s not coming. Would love to know. -
I know it’s tough having to change plans, and high schoolers are not typically the most level-headed decision-makers, but think of the alternative: do you really want to go play for a coach who doesn’t want you? To the extent I had issues with Deion’s approach, it was the calloused dismissal of the guys he inherited, the rumor that CU initially withheld practice tape of redshirt players trying to transfer, etc. The problem was the cruelty, not necessarily saying “you’re not going to play here so we’ll both be better off if you seek other opportunities.”

Thanks, <Shaq “I wasn’t familiar with your game” meme> @ JMU

Would add he’s won at places with no history/business winning, and through a transition…to FBS, not a larger version of their own conference, but still
-
If that’s the trio then IU really needs to make Candle the guy. I won’t be shocked if Hart is someday a good HC but I’m not sold on that “someday” being now
-
Okay, leave Frye then, I can live with this
-
No special knowledge but it kinda feels like it’s gonna be Candle. Let’s see if we can pry Frye — who, among the four mentioned this AM, would be my second choice — to OC and call plays.
-
You hire for what a coach WILL do, not what he’s done. What he’s done is only part of the calculus of figuring out what he’ll do.
-
I think this might be the highest ceiling play
-
Among the “former high-major HCs” I think he’s by far the most appealing.
-
I think I’d be pleased with Candle but Toledo has a pretty strong history for a MAC school. The question is can he level up or does he Archie Miller in a bigger job?
