I don’t know what to say!

Unpredictable in a good way, not so unpredictable that our players don't see it coming, LOL I hope!

I have been on TJDs case for awhile now, with the inconsistent play, not being focused, forcing post moves on 2-3 defenders, and such. Yes, I have been fed up with him at times, do I want him to leave, no, but would I like the offense to evolve around him, absolutely. Yes, he is our best player, but you cannot focus the offense on his ability in the post, it is too easy to defend. If he were to be able to shoot outside of 5 feet from the basket, it would be a different story, because you would have to defend him differently. I went to 5 games this year, and I know that warmups are different than in game situations, but I have seen him hit jump shots. The ability to shoot is there, just don't understand why he won't do it in a game unless he is forced too, other than confidence. My post about what was said on the Assembly Call was not intended to say we are better as a team w/o TJD, it was that the offense finally started moving the ball, players were moving and cutting w/o the ball, and we went on a run when TJD was on the bench. The moment TJD came back in the offense reverted back to force feed the post, movement stopped for the most part outside of the cross court outlet that Tamar nailed a 3. We have to be more than a one trick pony. I am perplexed as to why the offense cannot seem to flow like when it did with him on the bench during that run. Why does TJD have to hold the ball for like 3 seconds after catching the ball before he makes any move? It does not work consistently enough in B1G competition for us to win on a consistent basis. If he catches the ball in the post early in the shot clock, and he doesn't have the advantage, the ball needs to come back out immediately and move or someone needs to be cutting to make the defenders move away from him or to make a play. The other B1G teams know that when the ball goes in, the ball will generally not come back out and he is going to try to go left or the ball will come back out on the same side of the court which is easy to recover on defensively. We have had glimpses of decent ball movement when he is on the floor sporadically throughout the season and it has created many open shot opportunities, some have fallen and many have not. The PU and OSU games are examples that there is offensive opportunities outside of force feeding the post or X jacking up shots like most games. This team is definitely flawed, its a puzzle that all the pieces just don't seem to fit together just right on the court. There are missing fundamentals, there are players that are taking too many shots that don't need to be taking them, we have "shooters" that don't put up enough shots due to them standing in the corners for entire possessions, there are players that seem to think "e" is optional and those that just bring the "e" with no other option, and there are players that are just flat out limited. This team has become so predictable and hard to watch at times, especially when it feels like a 4-6 point deficit feels like a 20 point deficit, because the offense just can't seem to get it done. But on the occasions, when the offense moves the ball around and our guards and wings are not stationary, I think the team plays better basketball and that's when we beat teams like PU. They end up creating more opportunities than we ever get from just forcing moves in the post and it should lead to even better opportunities for TJD to score. Of course a lot of this depends on if shots go down, which is a completely different topic for discussion.

Push the ball up the floor a little faster, get 10-15 feet closer to the basket and there would have been a greater chance to get a foul called.

As much as I didn't want to listen to any post game analysis, I needed some background noise. But Assembly Call had a comment that completely stuck out. In the second half, TJD on the bench, we made a run. During that run, the offense was moving and our perimeter players were making shots. As soon as TJD checked back in, the offense stopped moving and went back to force feeding the post and standing around. Their next comment truly hit home. Why can't the offense move like it was and still have TJD on the floor. This not only happened last night, but the Purdue game as well.

How bad is it when a coach states that the players are struggling to grasp the pick and roll offense? I’d say pretty bad, and don’t quite understand how it is that hard to understand! I’m pretty sure the teams I was on in school all the way back to like middle school practiced some type of pick and roll.

Yeah It is definitely not cheap, I went 5 times and had tix to the cancelled game. I got my hopes up some before Christmas, but still had some reservations with the teams outlook. I just don’t see any hope of the post season when your “star” all American this late in the season with the season on the line still chooses not to show up for games and then give a goofy as smile while blanking freebies. I know opposing defenses focus on him but the frequency at which he misses bunnies and still cannot shoot a jump shot or a contested bunny with his non dominate hand drives me nuts. This roster is a bunch of pieces thrown together with no core. TJD cannot be the focal point of a team, yes he is talented but he is so one dimensional, it’s so easy to plan for him. Love Race but he is a backup 4 on a good team or a starting 4 with a group of dependable shooters. X, Kopp, Stewart, and Durr would all be bench players on good teams. Our underclassman are thrust into a contribute now role that none of them are ready for. Leal, Bates, Gallo, Lander, Geronimo need time as backups to learn. Most of them are the quintessential 4 year players that don’t contribute a ton till late junior or senior years. Idk what next season will bring but man it is getting harder and harder to watch this season. I love IU basketball but man just close out a game!

TJD with another game that he couldn’t decide if here was present or somewhere in lala land! I wanted to through my remote through the tv when he was in the middle of his free throw streak just smiling! What’s there to smile about? Make 1 more freebie and no overtime!

It’s time to blow up the roster! It’s obviously not working with who we have. Even our “good” players can’t be counted on at the end of a game! I’m not even sure TJD was 50% in this game mentally! We literally snatched defeat out of victory again, for who knows how many times in the last 5 years. All we needed was 1 d@mn basket in the final minute of the game, ONE! But no you let a team the was obviously gassed come changing back and blow you out in overtime! This team is just not there and some have been that way for 3 years. No excuse for this one! All that talk about being better this year and wanting it more,smh!

Maybe this means the IU trolling may be a little quiet for awhile?

Just checked the box score of the last Spurs game, and if the positions are listed correctly, Romeo was sent into a tough situation. The game listed 6 shooting guards for the Spurs from that game.

What ever double screen action Woody set up there was absolutely blown up by Wisc switching on both screens and our players fold and just stand there. There is no one on this team that can get there own shot, especially under pressure. Even Woody said after the play was blown up, the offense just froze. HOW does a team full of players that have been playing basketball for over a decade in their lives not know what to do when a play gets blown up? How do those players just stand around the ball and look lost? For Christ's sake, once the play is blown, EVERY ONE, except for a ball handler to help out of a trap situation, RUN AWAY FROM THE BALL TO SPREAD THE FLOOR, IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! CLEAR OUT!

Still not happy about this one. For all of the harping I have done regarding TJD over the past month, he finally shows up and plays one of his best games, but no one else really did (offensively)! This team just cannot get out of their own way! I am not sure what would help them! Consistency must be a curse word in the locker room.

Another issue that showed its face tonight! Why do we slow our pace at the end of a game when we have a small lead? Why!!!!! That’s why we were 1/10 from the field in the last couple minutes. We walk the ball up the floor allow the defense to get set, they deny TJD the post, and our shooting shoots us in the foot or we turn it over! Run the damn ball down their throats! Don’t give them the opportunity to shut us down completely. We have no shooters, and when the defense shuts down the post we have to be able to get up the floor and keep the defense on its heals!

I think P. Stew wants brads head! That’s the most fire I’ve seen out of him!
