We will likely get zero benefit of the doubt in seasons to come, until we win or are competitive in these big games. The fact that I’m evening typing that about IUFB in December is not lost on me… Great Season boys…can’t wait to see what this staff and team are made of next year!

Umm…I love cig. But you can’t talk the talk he has and have your team come out and lay an egg… And you especially can’t punt down 17 with 10 to go…in a win or go home game.

If we don't go the big name proven D1 Route, he definitely intrigues me the most out of any of the other options. -

That's why he gets paid the big bucks...and for all of our sakes, I hope he makes the right choice haha. -

D2 National Championships, yes. But he hasn't won consistently at the D1 level...yet. He is in his first year at Drake. I am not saying he isn't a great coach and wouldn't have success, I was merely pointing out I think there would be a much shorter leash with the fan base for someone like him vs. a proven D1 winner. -

My only fear in going with someone like McCollum...this fan base is fractured, tired and seething for immediate success. If you hire a big name, the fan base may be more likely to point to prior success and give them some grace. I fear the negativity would fire up quickly for a largely unproven lower level coach if they don't have immediate success. As a fan base, we have been told "a coach needs time" for the last 8 years...not sure that will fly again with whoever we hire given the current NIL environment and resources available, where you can flip rosters and teams year 1. As much as I'd love us to find an up and coming diamond that can lead our program to glory, I worry about going that route vs. a proven winner at this level. -

Several of my buddies from rival schools still to this day give me crap about the Stevens and Donovan rumor mill that got me excited in years past...I refuse to let myself go down that path again haha. -

I still would love to see what Bruce Pearl could do here for 10ish years...I know he is 64, but you'd think he was 15 years younger than Woody in the way he carries himself and the energy he has. Talk about a culture change and a jolt of energy into the program. He'd have us winning year 1 with the NIL resources we have. -

I just keep coming back to one word...stale. IU Basketball is just stale and has been for way too long. No Buzz, No energy, No life... Get rid of the king, IUBB needs a revolution and a new leader to inject life into this dying program. -
I will be tuning in tonight...don't know much about him, but Hoosier Trav's write-up and a couple article have me intrigued...

Living in Scottsdale, I had the pleasure to sit and talk with Dick several times at his Art Studio. He had a table right outside his shop doors that he would sit at and work on his art. He was a lovely man, that was always friendly and greeted you with a smile on his face. He was also always eager to discuss IU Basketball every time I stopped in. Really sad to hear that he passed. He always commented about how much his stroke had impacted him. Living legend both in IU basketball and Phoenix Lore. RIP Dick.

They hired a young energetic coach with collegiate experience. Pope has an identity and plan for not only his teams but the program. I watched one of his locker room post game speeches recently, and he seems like a guy a lot of kids are going to want to play for. We are at a point where players have come and gone, and the same issues persist, year in, year out...at some point the only place to point the finger is squarely at the common denominator... We hired an IU Legend, with no collegiate coaching experience, who was towards the end of his career and working as a bench assistant in the NBA. Take IU Basketball off Mike Woodson's resume and he's not even a thought during our last search. No collegiate program with aspirations to win conference and national championships would have made this hire. And that's just the truth. But its Indiana, it's Indiana... -

Don’t disagree. But our offensive sets are freaking horrendous. We waste so much energy doing nothing. -

I'll fully admit, I have overlooked that we were playing several times this year, and caught the tail end of games. Will watch the entire game tonight...but the one thing I noticed in several games was repeated from years past - just the lack of hustle, especially after turnovers. Guys put their head down and just jog. If we arent scoring, we aren't playing defense and energy drags...watching the Kentucky vs. Gonzaga game, dudes were out there busting their butts and moving at a pace I don't think I have ever seen us move at. That seems to be the theme whenever I watch other elite level programs. We don't have that, whatever it is. Hoping to see some Energy, hustle, and as mentioned above - fun,da,men, tals. -

This is true...57% win percentage over his career. The early years at IU and going 47-75 at Georgia definitely didn't help that for him haha. I still can't help but look at Sampson and wonder what could have been... -

I'm not a staunch Crean defender...but I do think he gets a bad wrap for how things ended for him in Georgia when looking at his overall career. Not saying he is a great coach, but definitely not a bad one. He won 400+ games as a Head Coach. At Marquette he won 70% of his games the final 7 years, took them to the tourney 5 times and made a final four. Came to IU and went from walk on's year 1 to the #1 team in the country in year 5. Won multiple big ten championships, was named national and big ten coach of the year, took us to three sweet 16's and is third in all time wins at IU. I remember pulling my hair out with the defense, but his offenses were fun to watch. Where we have been since him...I'd take a couple big ten titles, fun offenses and sweet 16 runs. -

Are you saying our 28 pt loss, that was close to 40 pts before a late run on their walk-ons, is the same as a close hard fought game? Anyone can get hot and win on any day. Close games and losing will happen…that’s the game. But getting absolutely embarrassed on neutral courts year in, year out… -

The argument that I see the loyal Woody defenders making is, "its just one game early in the season"....but it isn't just one game. This is a pattern, year in year out. We are in year 4, this shouldn't still be happening to the degree that it is. -
IUBB vs Louisville - Wednesday, 11.27.24 @ noon on ESPN
monskisprodigy replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Malik was noticeably frustrated...Goode was chewing the team out (trying to light a fire) in a huddle and coaches were standing letting it happen. Watched back parts of the game, and what stood out to me most was off turnovers there was no urgency to get back, match up, hustle. This was top to bottom... Year in, year out...no fire, no grit, no dogs. I was telling a buddy yesterday, Louisville has a hard nosed, high energy coach and to expect his team to mirror that. We were flat, they played their butts off...the rest is history.
