General Coach Candidate News
monskisprodigy replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If his back is healthy, I am all for the hire. 2 Final fours, 1 Final, 2 elite 8's, 4 sweet 16's. 5 time Big Ten Champs (2 ties) and 4 big ten tourney titles. Made the NCAA tournament 9 of his last 10 seasons, and won the NIT one of the three years he didn't get an NCAA birth. That is the type of sustained success I am looking for. And only being 53. Sign me up if that back is good to go. -

Honest question. If Matta doesn't fall into the good category, who in your opinion does? Personally, I'd take a coach who had sustained success at OSU prior to his health failing him, than an up and coming coach who has had a few years of success. -

I had a conversation with a buddy last night about this, who said it has to be a home run hire...Honestly, I just want someone who can freaking coach. Someone who has had sustained success, at any level. That is what scares me about the Mike White, Oates, Alexander names being throw out. I understand they have had relative success for a season or two, but what have they done that makes us think they will have long term success here? I know someone mentioned it earlier, and it will never happen, but if we go with an "unknown" or another "up and coming coach", I'd roll the dice on Greg Tonagel. Especially over a coach who only has 1-2 years of success, and certainly if they are coming from a lower conference. Tonagel has done nothing but win, and win, and win.... -

I'm not sure my mind can accept all of the positive IU athletics news over the past 2 days.... But this is huge! -

Anyone hearing any chatter about a player suspension? Buddy of mine texted, hearing possibly Hunter? Figured if that news is out there, someone on this board has also heard it haha. -

Doesn’t smile, which doesn’t bother me, but it’s noticeable. I joke with my wife all the time that it looks like he absolutely hates Mike Roberts. Who oddly also only sits the entire game, yells and smack his clipboard. -

Seeing other programs take a chance with unproven big names and alumni, it appears to be working out for Michigan and others at this point. A very close comparison to Howard would be Calbert Cheaney for us...Howard only had 6 years NBA assistant experience before getting the gig. Calbert was at St. Louis, the g-league and now with the pacers. If you want a players coach, someone who can talk the talk (all American, long NBA career) and coaching experience at both levels, it would be him. I understand it would be a gamble, but he seems like a choice that could please the fan base that wants an IU guy, relate with these young kids and hopefully bring some excitement to the program. Thoughts? -

IUBB vs Stanford - 12/2/20 @ 1:30 on ESPN

I've had to mute it...I don't understand how ESPN thinks this is suitable for a basketball game. Completely takes away from the viewing pleasure and makes it almost unwatchable. -

I think that is what has gotten to me. A buddy of mine texted me after the game and said "if today weren't so similar to what we have seen over the past several seasons, I wouldn't be so worried", which I think is what a lot of us are feeling. -

I truly hope he becomes a solid 4 year player, but I have always had serious doubts if he was as good as his ranking and able to play in the big ten. Had the chance to watch him multiple times in highschool, have talked with a couple people close to both IU and South, and I think his minutes so far reflect where he is currently at. Coming into today he'd played 11 minutes over 3 games. Again, before people jump down my throat, he is young and I hope he continues to grow. I just dont see his minutes increasing in year 1 for him. -

To be fair, I wouldn't say the Friars are a below average team. They were only 10 spots behind us in the NET going into our game and picked to finish 3rd in their league. Not saying they are great, but better than below average. -

Year 1: No shooters Year 2: No shooters Year 3: No shooters Year 4: No shooters Weird, similar results each season. As Bill Walton would say, "Someone needs to tell Archie he needs to recruit someone who can shoot the ball" -
New Assistant Coach Hire Candidates
monskisprodigy replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not saying Rangland wouldn't be a good hire, but I honestly had no idea who he was prior to someone mentioning his name. Now I'm also not enough of a basketball junkie to know if my lack of knowing him means anything, but is he a well respected and potentially sought after hire? Looking at his resume, he has the experience, but not necessarily a big name/home run hire from what I can see. In peoples opinion, would this be a home run hire? -

Pete Thamel just tweeted that a Big Ten spokesman confirmed that "No vote has been held by our presidents or chancellors". So....maybe they leaked that news, saw the backlash and said nopppee haha. Or they thought other leagues would immediately follow suit, and are holding off until they do. -
I would love nothing more than for Damezi to be able to come off the bench play solid defense and average 4-6 points.
-
Went down a YouTube rabbit hole yesterday, and actually was able to pull up some Jurkin highlights from his time at ETSU. Had some solid games his senior year against Kentucky, Xavier, ended up avg. 7 pts per game. More than I ever thought that he would.

Crazy story...I hated so much how his story ended here, as you could just see the potential that he had. On another note, Hanner was the gift that kept on giving...did he end up playing pro ball somewhere?

The NCAA will announce a resuming of the season, slap us with infractions and then re-cancel the season the following hour....

Saw where he tweeted that he was suspended for missing curfew prior to the Minnesota game. -
19-11, chance to punch your ticket for good on Saturday, and it doesn't matter what happens in the BTT imo.... Just win baby.

I...can't...even....think about this scenario haha. So with that being said...JUST WIN BABY!

POTFB Game Thread: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2/27 at 7PM on FS1)

I watched the video, and honestly saw “your/our offense sucks”...maybe that ticked flint off because he was responsible for game planning/ scouting sets/matchups on offense for the game? -
I think Brunk is fine on this roster if he is getting run as a backup 5. He has shown glimpses of being a strong player, but the match-up has to be just right. You can't cut him lose unless you plan to run TJD at the 5 primarily, or bring in another big man as a grad or immediate play transfer IMO.

Just checked, saw the 1971-72 senior class never beat them.
